Wilhelm Scream is ripe with fall flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel malts. Medium-bodied and the color of orange setting suns, it finishes similar to the way we finish summer: with just a hint of bitterness.

September 16th, 2015 - Why the scream? Smashing pumpkins? Halloween thrills? Whatever the name, this brew absolutely yawps with its Fall seasonal flavors. Think apple cider and clove, especially in the smell where the bottle acts like a perfume for Autumn. the body and flavor are regrettably thinner than I'd like. As always, this gives it a quenching and satisfying mouth body, but it feels a little weird with the flavor profile. Speaking of which, I believe there's supposed to be pumpkin here, and there is. Just barely, if you wait long into the aftertaste.

Pours a hazy copper color with a finger width foamy head. Head retention is good. Lacing is very good. Nice aroma of pumpkin spices and nutmeg. There is a hint of something artificial a the end. The spices, cinnamon, and nutmeg are strong on the taste. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Surprisingly good beer.

I am not a fan on pumpkin beers normally but this offering was pleasant surprise.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking hazy to semi-transparent burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds leaving barely any lacing sticking around the glass. The smell starts off with a sharp sweet pumpkin spice with a light little bit of vanilla almost pie crust - like quality. The taste was somewhat sweet with a light pie-like crustiness roving into a semi-spicy/slightly dry-like almost sweet vanilla. The aftertaste had semi-sweet pie-like aftertaste. It has a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs somewhat light. Definitely dry. Overall, I say this was a decent pumpkin ale. Though I had low expectations, Magic Hat did what was expected for the style.

Magic Hat's offering for Pumpkin beers really is unique and hits the spot...
Though I wasn't much impressed with it's look in the pint glass, with no head or lacing, it had the usual orange color you find with most pumpkin ales. Now meeting my nose, I was assailed with a very good scent of pumpkin and the boozy smell of a high ABV brew. But surprisingly to find - the brew is only in the 5% range, so go figure. The feel was mostly carbonation, but had a creamy texture I enjoyed. And the boozy taste - without the boozy after effect was a plus in my book. By far, one of the most unique and interesting pumpkin ales I have had. Very nice job, Magic Hat!

I can drink this beer. The smell is sweet and pumpkin. The taste is slightly sweet and pumpkin/spice with a slight bitter ending. Don't get me wrong it's a thin and not overpowering taste but it's pretty good. It's got a watery feel and less that average carbonation that works with this beer.

A decent pumpkin beer.
More of a dessert beer as it has some good cinnamon spice flavors going on.
Very little head on the pour, a decent dark orange color. A bit of cinnamon spice on the scent. Taste follows. Sweet malt but pretty thin. Super easy to drink though, although I'd probably have no more than two per sitting due to the sweetness factor.
