A very dry bitter IPA no citrus flavor apparent a little grapefruit, tastes thin with a dry mouth feel, flavor is fleeting doesn't stick around, no head no lacing, clear straw color, weak hops aroma not much else. A rather "meh" addition to the Magic Hat line of which most I find to be above par.

Under the cap: "Riddle me this, riddle me that, why is it you drink Magic Hat?"

These days, I honestly don't know. This used to be one of my favorite breweries around fifteen years ago when they were ahead of the curve. Now nothing they do seems to make sense. The best beers are the retired beers. I only ended up with this one because it came in the fall sampler pack, which I bought only because it included Jinx, a fall favorite from the good old days (though this incarnation seemed a little sweeter than I remember, but that's another rant for another time and place).

This is obviously a blend of #9 and HiPA, but no one seems to want to admit it. It's a phone-in for the fall pack, and just a bad idea overall.

Clear and apricot colored (go figure) with a low head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of apricot and grainy corn. Flavors of apricot, creamed corn, some piney notes, a peppery flourish up the cheeks. No hop flavor or aroma, but a firm bitterness offsets the malt. Semi-slick mouthfeel, finishes with a carbonation tingle. Overall below average. There are so many good IPA's out there, I would recommend spending your time with those.

Hi #9 brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company with an ABV of 5.9% This brew pours out a nice dark amber color with a nice white head. The smell is rich with citrus and some grains. So far this brew is ok. So now for the taste is rich with citrus with grains. It is a bitter but not bad. The mouth feel is nice and clean. The mouthfeel is ok. Overall I'm giving this brew a 3.5 out of 5. I would get his brew again.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep golden with long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of grassy, piney hops and bready malt. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is long and pleasantly bitter. Light, drinkable brew.

Pours a perfectly clear orange color with a white, sudsy froth. Plenty of lace is left behind the glass.

It smells like apricot, so very much like the usual offering by Magic Hat named simply #9, yet perhaps a touch more pine than in that brew.

The taste has a good deal of bitterness to go against the apricot flavor, lending notes of orange citrus, pine and herb. Tip of the tongue bitterness and citrus oil that lends the semi tropical feeling. Definitely offers a more IPA like flavor to the #9 base.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp and refreshing. Good amount of carbonation. Semi dry hop bite. Makes you want to take another sip.

Overall, this beer is growing on me. Certainly a more balanced beer than the regular #9. Certainly approachable and pretty decent all around. I would drink this again especially in warmer weather.

Interesting IPA. Nice summertime beer. Great beer for a late summer Bar-B-Q. Kinda like a shanty only it's an IPA! Had it work a grilled chicken and roasted chicken dinner. It was spot on for the day. Was very refreshing yet not tot light. Would highly recommend for the IPA drinker that was looking for a lighter beer!
