Starlit is a true, robust English porter. Medium bodied and full of dark chocolate and caramel malt flavors. The finish is dried with lingering flavors of star anise and slight warmth of alcohol.

ix12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present. Acquired a single bottle as part of a mixed six pack. 'Star Anise Porter' per the label.
Poured into a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale mini snifter.
A - Pours a cola brown body. Minor conjuration of thin fizzy bubbly chocolate tan head. Looks good for what it is.
S - Strong aromas of licorice / star anise on the nose. Subtle notes of mint & chocolate.
T - Taste follows the nose: sprucey, minty, with notes of chocolate & licorice. Simple, but flavorful for what it is. Notes of chocolate and roasted barley malt behind the star anise.
M - Feel is smooth, crisp, & creamy. Medium-light body with good carb.
Overall, good enough for what it is, but probably not something I'd be too thrilled to try again.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of anise, some coffee is present. Taste is anise, roasted malts, highly refreshing and drinkable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, original and unique, a beer worth giving a try.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark brown color with a short beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains coffee, roasted malts, some spice and some hops.
T: The taste starts out very bready with a hearty roasted malt character up front. Then some flavors of black coffee and dark chocolate come in along with some spices. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.
M: A little crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are others in the style that I would pick first.

For those that do not like anise (black licorice) stay away from this beer...for me its not so bad. The beer poured an opaque dark with thin/non-existent head with no lace. The scent carries anise. The taste has anise with some earth and espresso undertones. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall its a decent porter.

Not a big fan of spiced beers, but this was done well. The spices were very subtle and complemented the malt/hop flavors well with out overdoing it.

Maybe drinking a winter seasonal in March is my fault, but I really don't get any anise in the taste and only a very subtle amount in the nose. Certainly not a bad beer, but nothing special at all. Bit of a disappointment coming from a brewery whose stuff I usually love.

12 oz bottle (thanks Ric).
Excellent appearance with a dark brown body and a verydurable tan head.
Aroma: too spicy and floral.
Initially too good but immediately tasted great anyway. Spicy up front but hop-tinged dark roasted grains dominate thereafter.
Feel: carbonation may be higher than ideal.
