Wow! This is awful! Someone likened it to Bud or a sour Bud Light. Bud may be the archetypal American water-beer, but Bud has a clean briskness. This Single Chair is nasty, sour sticky stuff that has soured my pallette for literally two hours now. Someone also said they thought this was an English Ale, which I think is wrong. I think this is more of a kolsch ale that German folks like to drink from small glasses. Nowadays with many beers, the groovier the packaging and the higher the price and the more arch the backstory (ski-lift?), the crummier the beer. I'm perceiving notes of belladonna and urine. This is going down the sink. (642 characters)

A- hazy bright golden. Head fades faster than you can pour. Some visible carbonation.

S- almost nonexistent. Fresh cut grass and lemon.

T- lemon... And water... Weak...

M- it is refreshing! Very light, watery mouth feel.

O- English pale ale... Really? Either this beer is incorrectly categorized, or it is a very sad example of the style. (352 characters)

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/9/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, bread, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a good English pale ale style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering. (1,363 characters)

A: Pours a very slightly hazy pale yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy bright white head that reduces to a medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of grainy malts with light aromas of fruity yeast and grassy + floral hops.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of grainy malts with a very light amount of sweetness and a hint of corn adjuncts. That is followed by a light flavor of light fruit yeast (apple) and very light floral + grassy hops. Light amounts of bitterness are present in the finish but does not linger for long.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy enough to drink with well hidden alcohol but not very interesting, not sure that I would grab this one again. (1,009 characters)

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

It only takes one. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sunset straw topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises old stale grains, a bit of hard water, and mild wet grass. The taste brings in more of the same, with a honey-laden-biscuit-style sweetness tossed in for good measure. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, this was a pretty weak pale ale, English or otherwise. 'Nuff said. (500 characters)

Awful. Save your money, better value to go with Molson Golden. Called a 'golden ale', but taste like a cheap lager. Agree with the previous reviewer who noted the site, metallic taste. Trying to get thru the six pack, but only left me with a headache and bad taste. Magic Hat always was hit or miss, but never this bad... Just noticed the addition of Rochester, NY to Burlington, VT on the bottle. No good beer has ever come out of Rochester, or the Genesee river. A huge strike out for MH. I will avoid from now on... (526 characters)

Pours a murky yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, corn flake, and grass aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly sour grain, corn flake, and metallic flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer with lots of grain forward characteristics, but there is a sour and metallic combination in the taste that makes this one a bit of a chore to drink.

A: The beer is slightly hazy light pale yellow in color and has minimal visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass and some patches of bubbles on the surface.
S: Light aromas of yeast and floral hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, also having flavors of pale malts and floral hops.
M: It feels light- to medium- bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be a little yeasty for the style (approaching what you would expect from a saison) but is relatively easy to drink.

This bright golden beer is opaque, pretty thick in the look. The head is a small whitish one that falls off after a bit. It has an effervescent quality, bubbling lightly the entire session, and lace is light to moderate.
The aroma takes a minute of warming to fully develop. Some soft white fruits flesh balance a dusty note with a certain spiciness. Hops are light, flowery but balancing off a bit of honey sweetness.
It's generally dry, and crisp in more than the feel, as it were. Something like ginger bites, but not too hard, and it has an herbal element. Hops get stronger as it goes, adding a woody, earthy and pithy bitterness against the dry malts and light honeysuckle notes. A hint of graininess and a ghost of cardboard sneaks into the finish, but not enough to taint too heavily.
When the bite calms from a heavy start, a good crispness remains consistent and it really smooths out. Soft carbonation makes it creamy, and the bite comes back at the end of each sip. (985 characters)

Single Chair Ale brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.0% This brew pours out a nice golden amber color with a nice thick white head. The smell is rich with grains and malts. There is also a hit of sweetness in the smell of this brew. The taste is rich with flavor. You pick up on the sweetness at the end of this brew. The mouthfeel is rich, smooth and refreshing. I like how this brew goes down smooth, with no bad aftertaste. Single Chair Ale has a nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering in this brew. Magic Hat Brewing Company did a nice job with this brew. Overall I'm giving Single Chair Ale 4.5 out 5. I would buy this brew again. (671 characters)

Pale gold with a quickly dissappearing cap of thin white foam.
Aroma-Pilsner malt, faint biscuit.
Taste-Pale malt, a bit flat and lifeless to be honest. kind of a bummer. (170 characters)

Terrible, very first time I've completely disliked a Magic Hat beer, of any variety. It's bland and light, and honestly I'd prefer a budweiser or PBR if this was the kind of taste I wanted to drink because honestly those are better than this beer. (247 characters)

The aroma is sweet and bready malts. I get some pils type aroma also.
The body is very light straw with a bright white head. the head is about a finger tall and is tightly beaded. The carbonation is very aggressive and sure to get the head going.
The taste is good. It's sweet and malty.
Finishes slightly bitter and sharp almost like a pils.
It's a good beer but over carbonated. (381 characters)

Pours a clear yellow, left a fizzy white head that receded very quickly. Leaves no lacing on the glass.

Smells very simple, yeast, barley, a beer smells like a beer at this rate.

Taste is pleasantly light, toasted barley malts, with a minor hop bite. Very simple, not getting any odd notes for unique ingredients like Magic Hat is known for. Very straight forward, light golden ale.

Mouthfeel falls a little short for me, light bodied, but ends up a bit oily, or else this would be a straight rate.

Magic Hat has charmed me in many ways, and if they make a plain beer, well that's fine. I enjoy plain beer too. (614 characters)

A: Pours pale golden yellow. Large white head. No real retention or lacing.

S: Spicy. Herbal hops. Malty. Sweet fruits.

T/M: Malty. Crisp. Bubbly. Decent hop presence. Medium bodied. Clean aftertaste.

O: Just okay. Nothing special with this beer. Another plain beer from Magic Hat.

I purchased this in a mix-a-six at Wegmans enjoyed chilled in a mug.

The color is a golden shade with light hazed and quick dropping white head with very fine bead. The smell is somewhat sweet with a light yeast ester that is kind of fruity. The feel is okay, very light without much sweetness or malt texture moderately high carbonation with somewhat dry finish.

The taste is decent with gentle malt flavor with a somewhat yeast oriented flavor with a mild tanginess and bready quality combined with the light grain flavor. There is not much else going on -I am surprised it is 5%, it is pretty drinkable in general, but as far as flavor it is not much better than average. I might try pairing this with some spicy chili or wings, but it misses the mark unless you want a palate cleanser. (792 characters)

Quality golden ale, but definitely nothing too special in terms of taste. Preferably drank under 40 degrees. Very drinkable and smooth. I am glad that Magic Hat continues to mix it up (183 characters)

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on February 7, 2015.

The pour is straw yellow with a slight fogginess to it and and quick lasting white fizzy head. Some lacing.

The aroma is like all of those Magic Hat beers. It has this overwhelming buttery, vegetable oil yeast character that really takes away from the other good aspects such as the toasted malts and grass.

About a medium body.

Like the aroma, the taste is taken over by this butter, vegetable oil greasiness that buries the toasted biscuit and bread character one might expect. It ends reasonably clean and crisp. (577 characters)

Magic Hat Single Chair has a medium, white head, a clear, bubbly, golden-straw appearance, and some slight lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of sweet, very yeasty, creamy maltiness. Taste is of those elements, with some sourness and a touch of bitter. Mouthfeel is medium, and Magic Hat Single Chair finishes dry and easy drinking.

A very bland ale with a muted skunky taste. Why does everything from Magic Hat have a skunkiness to them? Are they trying to be like the mass-produced beers of Canada? It's a brown bottle there should be no skunkiness. (218 characters)

Poured into a balloon glass.

Single Chair is a very clear light golden beer. It sits under a white head that recedes to a light wisp with a white collar around the edges. Very watery and light lacing initially.

Aroma consists of doughy, bready malts. There is a honey-like sweetness in there.

The taste is much like the aroma but with a slightly thin finish, exposing a touch of alcohol despite the moderate 5% ABV. There's not a whole lot of depth in the taste.

Mouthfeel is medium to light, watery -- good for warm weather.

Overall, the more I drink this the less I like it. It starts out very bread and doesn't hold up, leaving it tasting more like a thin adjunct lager in the finish. (693 characters)

This beer reminds me of our typical American lager from the big 3. It isn't horrible, but for those looking to expand their palate, this may not be the one for you. Don't get me wrong it doesn't taste bad, but I think I am past these types of beers. It has a slight fruity tone, no particular after taste. But for sure it lands right in the middle of the road. (361 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

Appearance: Golden yellow. Clear. Little to no head. (I didn't pour as aggressively as I should have)
Smell: none really.
Taste: Crisp. Light. Slight hop bite but hardly bitter at all. also a slight citrus taste on the back end.
Mouthfeel: very thin.
Overall: Not a bad beer. I would place it's flavor profile close to moosehead, only better. (392 characters)

S: Don't get much from the smell, smells like a regular ale
T: tastes clean, very eno yale and easy to drink, surprisingly hoppy almost, thumbs up
F: wasn't expecting much but it leaves a nice slight bitter flavor on your mouth
O:Got this beer as a gift from my friend in a growler frim a festival in vermin and the magic hat brewery. Was sure what to expect but turned out to be a very enjoyable ale that I could drink anyday. Goes down smoothly but at the same time has great flavor. (553 characters)

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A light hazy yellow/gold. Very thin off white head that quickly disappears.

Smell: Faint smell of wheat, grains, bread.

Taste: Very sweet, some wheat flavor.

Mouthfeel: Well carbonated and fairly light. Easy to drink.

Overall: At first, I did not like to sweet flavor, but it grew on me a lot. I find it very drinkable and a nice beer. (381 characters)
