Creamy, lightly tan head. Clear, deep burgundy in color with shades of dark brown. A few traces of spotted lacing, but not much holding power.

Moderately sweet, creamy toffee aroma. Faint hints of smoked oak and wood chips with a bit of diacetyl. A rustic-eawrthen hop character.

Light milk chocolate, caramel, and a buttery toffee. Semi-sweetened cream with a touch of vanilla. Earthy hop character with hints of ginger and light oak. An aftertaste of light caramel, rustic-earth tones, and a touch of spice.

Medium bodied; creamy and smooth on the palate. Very mellow.

Some good combinations of flavor here, but a little subdued and tame for a Scottish Ale. 'Rave' or 'Grave'? Neither; not Magic Hat's worst offering, but not too impressive.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a pint glass. The liquid is dark with good carbonation. The head looks nice, tan, a fat thumb, very little lace.

The smell is fruity, Some plumbs and cherries, lots of alcohol coming through.

The taste is good, fruity, cherries and chocolate notes. Malt is nice, kind of sweet. I like it.

The mouthfeel is average, kind of porter like, thinish. Good carbonation, no bite.

Drinkability is good, clean easy drinking, nothing special but nice. Prosit, MK

Hauled back from PA by expatsteve - thanks again.

Pours a deep mahogany/garnet with a finger of tan foam that fades to a skim.

Nose is musty and nutty up front followed by notes of chocolate and prune.

Taste again starts off on a nutty note and is followed by caramel/grainy malt a faint hint of smoke and strange chocolatey fruit.

Body is light and carbonation is standard.

As a mystery beer, tastes like some sort of strange amber/nut brown with a funky fruit/chocolate candy thrown in. A little artificial but overall tasty enough. Probably a one a done for me though.

Batch 372 pours a deep red, with a small head that lingers a bit. The smell is fruit and malts, with the roasted malts coming out as it warms. Taste is sweet and malty, with a nice amount of darker malts, especially as it warms up. The ringwood taste is there, but not too strong. The hops are there, but barely. Mouthfeel seems a little light for the strength, but that boosts the drinkability a bit.

From the winter seasonal collection.

Nice color. Deep, brownish-amber in color. Long-lasting tan-colored head leaves a dollop of foam on my nose during the first sip. Aromas reveal a biscuity-sweetness. Maybe a dash of baking chocolate? Flavor just didn't seem to come together. Malty sweetness with some caramel and some grassy hops. Not much aftertaste. Very thin. Not too much to like about this one.

This pours a dark clear reddish color with a large thick tan head. The smell is very "bisquity" with some malt sweetness. The taste has all malt sweetness with some darker fruits. The raisin and prune taste is alittle too strong, but this isn't bad. The m/f is light ,but the flavors don't quite mix well. It's not bad,but something isn't right. All in all, this isn't a bad beer and I can see Magic Hat keeping this in there lineup.

poured a medium brown color with moderate head that almost immediately disappeared. Smell is toasty, roasty, malty, and caramelly. Very pleasant and improves as it warms.Taste is strong on caramel, some dark fruits, and a big time maltiness, but nothing that really asserts itself. A bit thin at the finish, but still OK. A very one-dimensional beer that completely hides the alcohol. Very easy to drink, almost too easy, at 7%.

A clear mahogany body is capped by a short lid of thin tan foam that holds fairly well but leaves little lace about the glass.

The nose is abundant with yeast, backed by a waft of deeply caramelized malt.

In the mouth it's medium bodied with a gentle carbonation that lightly pricks at the tongue before warming. (This is best enjoyed at cellar temperature!!!!)

The flavor offers a very nice maltiness that combines a dollop of chocolate and a smear of dull roastiness with a firm caramelish base. It's quite biscuity, and slightly toffee-ish once it warms a bit. The yeast character comes through well, with soft red fruit and a suggestion of butter. There are some leafy and grassy hops present as well, rounding out its character. It finishes pretty much the same way, bicuity and hay-like; and although it's nice, it's very one-sided. But that's okay, I think, as that's pretty much what the style is all about. Except for the alcohol, would make a very nice session beer indeed!

12oz notched best before April, poured into a pint glass.

Deep garnet with a thin head of light tan that quickly settles to a veiled ring.

Smells like sweet biscuits splashed with caramel and cocoa powder. A pinch of smoke comes through.

Lots of caramel malt comes through when tasted. The carbonation is sharp and seems to cut through the other flavors leaving a blank spot in the middle. The finish is sweet and malty with a touch of hop bitterness. A little caramel in the aftertaste.

The mouth starts full but gets wiped away from the carbonation. Drinkable but not very interesting.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass..."Behold! The power of Yeast" under the cap.

Appearance: Pours a deep reddish brown with two fingers of foam which recedes rather quickly.

Smell: Sweet caramel maltiness with smoky undertones

Taste: Caramel sweetness, toffee with buttery notes

Mouthfeel: A little thin on the tongue, but still smooth and slightly creamy

Drinkability: I found this to be a pretty drinkable brew. This would be a good beer for a session. The alcohol posted here (7%) is different frm the Magic Hat site which says 4.8%

12oz bottle purchased as part of a Feast of Fools mix 12-pack from somewhere in MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" tan head over the clear dark burgundy amber brew. Head fades rather promptly, but some remains, with average lacing. Aroma is malty, with tinges of smoke. Taste is malty sweet, with the same wisps of smoke here as well. Mouthfeel is alright, a bit thin perhaps, and drinkability is nice as well. Not a bad "mystery" offering this year.

Scottish Ale? Very good one.

Pours medium red with a light foamy head, quick dissipation, not much lacing. Good carbonation. Smells of light malts, light smokiness. Taste is well balanced with lightly caramel and toasted malts. Medium to light hops. Good blend. Very drinkable.

Pours a light tan, five finger-head that goes quickly to a ring leaving some lace. Nice deep amber color amber color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Smells like hay. Starts sweet more or less, watery, finish is hops and hay. Poor example of a Scottish Ale, expecting much more. 12oz bottle from 12-pack $11.99 Market Basket Concord, NH.

Pale brown ale with red tints and a light head. Oily looking. Smells sweet, very raisiny, plums- dark, ripe fruits. Malty. Taste is coffee and malty with more dark fruit. A light candy taste to it. Biscuity.

Mouthfeel is watery and sticky- huge sugar rush mid-sip. This seems to be a very unbalanced brew- too sweet, not enough flavor, unpleasant mouthfeel- it's just off.

Pours a near-black copper color with a short-lived head but a well-retained lace. Sweet malty aroma. At first, sweet malt and fruitiness hit the palate, then some coffee-like roastiness, and to top it all off there is distinct graininess as well. Medium-bodied mouthfeel with very mellow carbonation.

A sort of sweet-and-sour affair with some nice roastiness thrown in. It’s not too bad, but nothing to write home about. Still, recommended.

"Life is Better inside a Warm Sweater"

Pours a deep, clear crimson hue with large clumps of carbonation sticking to the glass and a fleeting head. Light earthy malt sweetness in the aroma. Watered down sweet malty flavor with hints of caramel and little to no bitterness. Some buttery and fruity notes. Mouthfeel is thin and the carbonation seems to have disappeared completely. Pretty dull and disappointing.

To the grave with you.

Nice head (though not for long) + color is a dark, hard to see through, yet clear garnet brown. Smells malty sweet with buttery caramel that is more discernable as it warms. Tastes full of buttery bread and sweetness with a faint fruit. Not bad, but a little thinner somehow than I'd like. Lingering sweet malty finish that leaves a smooth mouthfeel. + Easy to drink.

An alright scottish ale.

Pours a glowing reddish brown with a creamy tan head that fell very quickly. Smells of maple syrup, hazel nuts and lime. Tastes of weak coffee, oranges, and bubble gum. The mouth feel is chaotic due to an eruption of carbonation when drinking. It's nothing extreme, but I found this to be a bit distracting. Not too bad of a beer.

A- Looks good enough to drink. Deep rusty red, held up to the light. Light, fleeting head, not too many bubbles.

S- Sweet n' malty, not much bite, or potency for that matter.

T- Disturbingly mimics the smell. Some caramelly malts up front, but the entree portion of taste doesn't stick around long, like the head. No discernible hops. A faint maltiness that lingers on the tongue. The malts lack fortitude, which I was expecting. Sweetness doesn't do much for it either.

M- Carbonation/fizziness without much taste; relatively simple. Alas.

D- A pretty flat offering. Nothing at all to rave about, disappointingly. Where is the Humble Patience?
