Poured from a long neck 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. It says "The Hefeweizen" on the label, but I think the 'Pale Wheat Ale' description here is more appropriate.
Appearance: Hazy golden color with a soft-white foam one finger head that didn't last long or leave any lacing behind.
Smell: Citrus and wheat with a very subdued sweetness. Where is the yeast and that typical banana, clove and bubblegum smell that good Hefe's have? It's not here.
Taste: Like it smells, wheat and lemony citrus up front, with little or no flavor from the yeast (and I swirled it all into my glass from the bottle). Not as sweet as it smells. Hefe's are simple to get right, and this one just misses the mark on the yeast. Based on all the good reviews here, maybe I got a six pack that was too old, or too young? But in any case, the Hefe yeast flavors I'm used to aren't here. Tastes almost like a Belgian Witbier more than a Hefe. Not terrible, but nothing special either.
Mouth feel: A little overly carbonated and thin for the style. Seems a bit watery, and there's none of that good yeasty creaminess I associate with good Hefe's.
Drinkability: It's not bad, but it's far from the best Hefe's I've had (and I drink them often). I was hoping for more from Magic Hat Brewing with this one. They should really change the label from Hefeweizen to 'Pale Wheat Ale'.

pours out a hazed gold colour with the addition of the dregs. little head with poor retention. the addition of lemongrass accentuates the overall already lemony aroma. definitely fruity. the taste is more of the same. while not a true hefe, there are some shared characteristics. underneath the lemony facade there is bits and pieces of hay and grass with some slight spicy notes. american pale wheat for sure, with a noticeable back end bitterness. this is a unique tasting beer. medium bodied with a coarse mouthfeel. drinkability is nice. would be really awesome to quench a thirst in the summertime.
overall, this is a twist on the american wheat style that leans heavily on the lemon quenching aspects. i picked this up on clearance for a really low price, and had it been summer, i would have bought multiple cases.
