Growler from Grab. Hot that day, so a wheat beer sounded refreshing...its cold and rainy today, yet still drinking this beer.

A- Pours a brassy yellow that is slightly hazey. A good white foamey head that turns into a thin skin. No lacing noted. If someone handed it to me I might think it was a coors or something.

A-Not a whole lot here. Light biscuity malts, slight touch of astringent alcohol. Not offensive, but nothing going on here.

S- The biscuity malt flavor is sweeter than the nose. An almost lemony citrus flavor in there, causing a slight tartness at the end. Meh.

M- This is a light thin bodied beer with a mild carbonation. Meh.

D- Although this is nothing special, I think this is an easy drinker for hot days, when they happen. For $9.95 for a growler, I can't complain.

Bought a growler of this from the brewery on a visit to Vermont a few weeks ago after tasting all other offerings.

A - Murky yellow/orange color, no mistaking the presence of yeast. Not much of a head that disappears quickly.

S - Hint of apricot and citrus otherwise uneventful.

T - Nice taste, taste the fruit better than in the smell of it. Also can taste the wheat, a little sweet but nice.

M - Thicker than average, nice body to it.

D - A great summer beer, they go down very easily

Stopped by the Brewery and picked up a growler for the weekend.

A: Cloudy orange, with a nice white head that dissipated to a thin layer after a few minutes. Minimum lacing.

S: Very unusual, medicinal smell that was very unappealing.

T: Smooth citrus up front, with some wheat and virtually no malt.

M: No carbonation. Like drinking a flavored iced tea.

D: Major disappointment. Drank this within a few hours of buying it. This is my second growler of Circus Boy with the first being much better. I like this beer from the bottle, but this growler fresh from the brewery was hard to drink.

The beer is fresh out of the growler which has been filled at the brewery today. It is in my newly acquired Circus Boy glass which is surprisingly just a standard pint glass rather than shapes more common for wheat beers.

The beer is hazy, yellow in color. White head disappears quickly leaving a thin cover that clings to the sides of the glass. Refreshing smell - lemon and grass. I guess it is fitting because the guy at the brewery mentioned that it was brewed with lemongrass. Refreshing taste with a nice bite. The taste builds up on the aroma. Light body, almost no after taste.

I find this beer very easy to drink. I don't think I'll be getting it a lot, but I will enjoy my growler.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: A hazy golden, almost orange-tinted body. A white head recedes quickly to a few patches of wisp. No lacing.

Aroma: Mold malt sweetness, faint orange citrus.

Taste: Begins with a malty backbone, with citrus and tanginess around it. Pretty bright finish, really tart.

Mouthfeel: Really bright and carbonated.

Overall: I liked this at the beginning but the longer I sipped on it the more harsh it became.

pours out a hazed gold colour with the addition of the dregs. little head with poor retention. the addition of lemongrass accentuates the overall already lemony aroma. definitely fruity. the taste is more of the same. while not a true hefe, there are some shared characteristics. underneath the lemony facade there is bits and pieces of hay and grass with some slight spicy notes. american pale wheat for sure, with a noticeable back end bitterness. this is a unique tasting beer. medium bodied with a coarse mouthfeel. drinkability is nice. would be really awesome to quench a thirst in the summertime.

overall, this is a twist on the american wheat style that leans heavily on the lemon quenching aspects. i picked this up on clearance for a really low price, and had it been summer, i would have bought multiple cases.

Magic Hat Circus Boy Hefeweizen (2013) - 4.5% ABV. Hazy unfiltered deep golden body. No head on pour. Decent lacing. Poor retention. Fairly active carbonation. Citrus, hay, and passion fruit aromas waft over maple syrup. Thick body. Very bright Orangina like nose. A little bread. Some bananas and apricots mid-palate. Hint of lager hops and barley back palate. Crisp but wet in mouthfeel. A little banana bread, gum, and slight hop note in the aftertaste. Very drinkable. Would go well on a hot day. Not overly complex. A fairly straight forward low citrus Hefenweizen. 3.5 out of 5. Good.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth, light bodied. Taste strong of cloves and bananas. Some grassy taste as well.

Overall: Pretty good, I would drink this one again.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a hazy golden color. It's actually pretty damn clear until the yeast is poured in - and even after, it's still not that cloudy. The head isn't anything to write home about, either. It isn't even a finger high, has an off-white color, and very poor retention.

S: Smells like a generic wheat ale. The ester notes are very muted...and even worse, seem off somehow. Wheat malt is the most prevalent note I pick up, along with a twinge of candied sugar.

T: There's lots of wheat to start, along with a slight spiciness. And then after that...nothing. The finish is empty in flavor. I guess it isn't bad, but that's only because it's so devoid of character.

M: Well, if I have to pick something I like about this one, then I'll say I enjoy how soft it feels. It's a pretty sweet brew, as well, lacking the vibrant carbonation of some examples.

O: BOOO-RING. The simple fact that it's just really dull instantly makes it better than the abomination that was Seance, at least. In a way, I hate these boring beers simply because they create dull reviews...just like this one.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a hazed lightly tinted orange-amber color with a small one finger fizzy white head. The head fades quite quickly leaving a patchy film on the top of the brew and very little lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is super light overall with just a little bit of a wheaty smell and a small amount of yeast and grass.

Taste – The taste begins wheaty and bready with a light hint of yeast. It has a moderate sweetness upfront with some flavors of lemonade. As the flavor advances the sweet begins fading with the lemonade turning a bit more sour, taking on a more tart lemon flavor. Flavors of a grassy nature come to the tongue at the end leaving a rather pleasant, semi sweet, wheaty taste on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is very light with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. Both are rather nice for the somewhat sweeter hefe flavors of the brew and make it quite easy to drink.

Overall – Not a flavor powerhouse, but rather easy drinking. A decent brew overall.

I've never really had a bad wheat beer, but not really many that are great either. This beer is a little light, and the wheat flavor is subtle, there is also a bit of tange ib there. Definitely drinkable and as impressive as most other beers of its kind, but not more so.

This is a somewhat unique hefeweizen that has a low abv which lets you get at it all afternoon without having to slow down. There's an interesting smoky/malt flavor that I'm noted to getting up of similar beers, that doesn't sound good, but surprisingly was. Bit of citrus as well as you MIT expect. Not my favorite, but if you want to try something different, it's not a bad idea.

Picked up a few circus boys because I feel like even though its not great relative to other brews it's a must have at least once on a warm summer day. Nice medium carbonation with low ABV you can drink a 6 pack with ease and it goes down smooth. Limited twang or hops to it and mostly a light biscuit flavor with sour lemon lingering in the front and back of the mouth.

A- Cloudy golden body with an orange tint to it. Thin white head that leaves no lacing at all. Some light shines through, but the unfiltered body leaves no visibility.

S- Sweet malt, some wheat, sweet corn, light citrus, fresh grass.

T- A little more wheat comes through in the flavor than it does in the aroma. Still getting a lot of sweet malt. Grassy, citrusy flavors come through towards the end for a nice finish.

M- Rather light bodied with medium carbonation. Good for a drinkable summer beer.

O- Pretty good beer that would be a good candidate for a can. Drinkable, but not huge on flavor.

Appearance - Pale yellow-orange, with a very slight haziness. Head dies down rapidly, leaves some traces of lacing on the glass.

Smell - Sweet bread, honey, a little yeast, and unfortunately some oxidation. I am also picking up some citrusy hops in the aroma.

Taste - The first thing that jumps out at me is a white pepper/clove type of crisp spiciness, which may be a little too dominant. The wheat bread heart of the beer is actually quite nice, but it does not linger.

Finish - A dry and watery finish pops up quickly after sipping. A tad lemony and soapy as well.

Overall - Probably my least favorite beer from The Magic Hat brewery, but in all fairness, I am not the biggest fan of American style wheat beers in general. Give me a German style any day!

S - Scents of wheat, lemon and banana come to the nose. Certianly has a strong citrus notes to go along with light grains.

T - Easy drinking wheat beer with a bit of lemon zest and spice. Kinda like those girl scout cookies.

M - Light feel, mild carbonation, and some tastness at the end. Enjoyable beer.

O - Not bad at all. The addition of lemongrass gave this some nice tartness. This would be nice on a hot summer day.

The beer is hazy and yellow, as is typical of the style. Small white head that leaves a thick trail of lacing on the glass. The aroma offers lemons, malt, cleaning solution. More cleaning solution and artificial lemon in the flavor. Lacking body, character. Tastes gimmicky, cheap. Just not my thing. I would never choose this over any German hefe. Not a repeat.

This review has no intent of matching the highly descriptive jargon used on this site by more experienced professionals. It reflects the utter disappointment of picking up a six pack after a 14 hour day only to be let down in the worst way.

A light amber color - like apple cider - it pours with slight effervescence with only a half finger head appearing at the last 2 ounces. Yeast on the bottom clouds the pour. The immediate scent is an odd mix of dirty stagnant water and bleach. On sniffing the bottle, faint spices and fruit are detectable.

A hint of pepper appears on taste; carbonation up front, and a watery back end. The foul scent is confirmed. A cask strength scotch is necessary for proper cleansing.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Samuel Smith's tulip pint glass.

Appearance: Pours an appropriately hazy dark yellow color with a weak white head that dies pretty quickly.

Smell: Citrusy with wheat and may hints of corn. I'm picking up plenty of it, but it's not really wonderful. It doesn't offend though.

Taste: Much the same. Citrusy, with wheat and a tiny bit of zest... and water. Very watery. Pretty unimpressive and pretty one dimensional.

Mouthfeel: Wheat and water. Light with decent carbonation. Not great.

If this were the only example I had for the style, I'd be bummed.

As I pour a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass, a 1-2" thick head appears atop a hazy yellowish/gold brew.... The head dissolves quickly.... There's decent retention and minimal lacing.... There's also a few noticeable bubbles rising throughout the drink.

I take a whiff, and I get mostly lemon and bready malt.... That's about it.

The taste is pretty similar.... Lots of lemon and bread.... There's also a bit of spice like pepper.

This is a light to medium-bodied brew that is well carbonated.... Pretty crisp for a "hefeweizen".... Leaves a zesty lemon aftertaste.

Overall, I'm not too impressed with this brew for what it's supposed to be.... It has a decent taste, but it's almost too easy of a drink (if you know what I mean).

12 oz bottle, served into my Bruery tulip.

Circus Boy pours a mostly hazy tangerine, with a decent amount of goldenrod highlights. Only half a finger or so of white foam tops the beer, and both head retention and lacing are basically nonexistent. The nose is entirely too weak. There's a bit of grainy wheat, and a trace of lemon, but that's it. The flavor profile is better, but just barely. The same wheatiness greets me first with each sip, but here it's followed by a light sprinkling of black pepper. A muted lemon zest note provides the finish. The body is a little full, and the carbonation a little lackluster, but still the mouthfeel is probably this beer's best quality. Circus Boy tastes like it's a bit past it's prime (not that there's any bottle dating present), but I don't think even in peak condition it's much more than an alright wheat beer (and for the love of God, don't call it a hefeweizen).
