Poured into a pint glass.

Great beer here!

Pours a cloudy yellow/copper with a one and a half finger head. Lacing is there but its not too sticky.

Smell is great. Wheat upfront and clementines in the back. Really appealing.

Lemon is the first flavor I got from this beer. Really really enjoyable combined with the wheat flavors. Thats about all there is to it. Very refreshing.

Mouthfeel was great very crisp for a wheat and nicely carbonated. left a cool sensation afterward.

Awesome summer beer for a hot day.

A - Pours a hazy yellow, not much head and does not appear that it will stay long

T - Citrus, taste not overwhelming. Just enough to let you know it's there. Good taste, pleasant aftertaste with a twist of tartness at the end.

M - Nice carbonation, little tingle.

D - Due to the citrus, a very refreshing beer. I could definitely down a couple of these on a summer afternoon.

A- cloudy golden honey appearance. not much of a head with lots of carbonation bubbles showing through the clouds

S- pretty subdued. mostly wheat with a bit of citrus hiding in there

T- citrus peel with the wheat flavor really dominating. very strong spice on the tail end. almost peppery in flavor. not that appealing.

M- little heavy on the carbonation for me but crisp in the palate

D- not a bad Hef. nice beer to have in the cooler for the summertime.

Firstly, I do not normally like Hefewiesens, but I have found Circus Boy to have the right amount of citrus to be refreshing but not overpowering. I like many other unfiltered wheat beers and buy this one on a regular basis. I've noticed it has hints of banana when coming out of the tap, but is much fresher out of a bottle.

Thanks to SMason for this extra. Served in a weizen glass. Best before October '09.

A - Pretty typical weizen look - three fingers of creamy white foam that slowly dissipates to a thick cap. Hazed golden color that is a little lighter (more straw-like) near the bottom of the glass.

S - Smell is strong in tangy yeast, with lots of spice and a touch of lemony citrus hoppiness. Not really a ton of banana or clove in the nose here. Definitely more APWA than Hefeweizen - even though the label tries to convince me otherwise. As it warms the spicy yeast kind of takes over in a less than pleasant way.

T - Taste is a little cleaner, with some malted wheat and light notes of lemon, spice, and a yeasty aftertaste. It's OK, but nothing special - a step up from phony macro witbiers like Blue Moon or Shock Top.

M - Moderate carbonation, medium body - finish is a little heavier and stickier than I prefer from a wheat beer.

D - Nothing wrong with this brew. The lemongrass addition works well within the flavor profile and doesn't seem overtly gimmicky. Low ABV and solid taste make it inoffensively drinkable.

Magic Hat seems to be moving towards capturing the craft beer entry-level market, which isn't overly glamorous to veteran BAs but is probably important to the long term health of craft beer nonetheless.

Pours out a slightly cloudy yellow to tan with one finger of white suds. No lacing to speak of.
Smell is soured banana peels. No clove no real banana.
taste is very strange for a Hefe. The Odd Notion summer 09 had the right aroma and flavor. This one has like a soured raisin with some corriander added in but no sugar.
Mouthfeel is OK I guess but this one is def. not my fav Magic Hat.

a- bottle poured into a weizen, one finger white creamy head, loads of bubbles, hazy warm brown honey color, nice lacing.

s- pretty mild, the obvious wheat.

t- doesn't strike as very hefe at first, low amount of wheat, low wheat, little bit of banana, little lemon at the end, finishes a little dry, interesting.

m- medium bodied.

d- pretty great, nice offering from magic hat, i'd drink again.

Various hues within the glass ranging from goldenrod to carmel. Frothy lace and decent head. Many rising bubles to the top of the glass. Smells very fresh, with aromas of citrus and wheat. The taste is very refreshing and crisp. Tastes wheaty and somewaht yeasty with a citrus tinge. The mouthfeel is somewhat above average. I feel this is a quality heff and would drink this again.

New bottle design this year. I'm so confused about the style of this beer. Bottle proclaims "The Hefeweizen!" but here it's listed as an American Pale Wheat Ale. Doesn't entirely taste like a hefeweizen--lacks the dryness that I've come to associate it with.

Anyway, pours a hazy yellow color, with a little bit of head that doesn't last and doesn't really lace either. Smells pretty sweet- there's a lot of citrus on the nose. Lemon peel, coriander, wheat, orange.. The taste is pretty similar- but worse, unfortunately. A huge lemongrass kick, a lot of wheat, and a bit too much bitterness really detract from drinkability. Nonetheless, it's medium bodied, all kinds of smooth, and maybe, just maybe, a worthwhile lawnmower beer.

Last year I was buying these regularly, extolling their virtues to friends. Oh how my palate has changed...

A: Cloudy yet bright golden yellow. Fluffy white head that goes away rather quickly.

S: Lemmons and malt. Slightly sweet rather than sour.

T: Lemons, pineapple and black pepper. More sweet than sour. Decent malt backbone.

M: Light, crisp, clean refreshing.

D: Nice light summer beer with just enough flavor.

My buddy put this in a mixed six pack for me. I poured it into a pint glass.
A: The body is a cloudy dark gold/light amber color. The head is three fingers tall, small bubbles, great retention and very nice sporatic and thin lacing.
S: The aromas are spargy, orange peel and many a hint of pine.
T: The flavors are citrus, pine and some wheat.
M: The mouthfeel is very crisp.
D: This is a great beer.
Don't drink and review.

poured from the bottle into a weizen glass

A - pours a medium gold with a frothy two-finger white head. Somewhat cloudy appearance, but not as much as a witbier. Head is gone by half way down the glass, no lacing.

S - Very little smell when opening the bottle, but in the glass, there is a moderate smell of orange peel, spice and wheat malt. Needs a stronger smell.

T - Lemony and sweet up front, followed by a wheat-malt dominated body. Hints of yeast, lemongrass and a tad bit of hops can also to be found in the body. The finish is more lemon grass and wheat malt. Leaves a bitter yeast/lemongrass aftertaste.

M - Medium thin body with ample carbonation and a tad creamy. Suits the style well.

D - This beer has an awkward combination of flavors that never seems to sit quite right in my mouth. The yeast and wheat-malt seem to be conflicting with the lemongrass, leaving a weird bitter sensation, although maybe i'm just not a fan of the style. Got this beer in the Magic hat spring variety pack, and I would not get it again. Sorry Magic hat, your beers are a little too off the wall for me.

Circus Boy pours a nice light amber color and slightly cloudy, typical of the Hefewiezen style. It has a beautiful and long lasting cream colored head.

This beer has a very nice floral and hoppy aroma with hints of a sweet malty smell.

Very delightful, slightly hoppy taste and very malty and slightly sweet. Very nicey balanced and well built but does not have a clear lasting aftertaste. It does, however, fit its style.

Medium bodied beer with a medium smoothness and nicely balanced carbonation.

I found this beer to be quite enjoyable and I would recommend it to others but it would not be on my list of top unfiltered wheat beers.

This and Feast of Fools are two of this brands better beers in my opinion. The body is a hazy golden color with an average amount of carbonation. The average frothy head leads to some nice lacing. It has pasture and fruit aroma. The tones of grains, lemon and banana are somewhat strong for an American wheat beer. The body is moderately thick with great carbonation. It is very refreshing.

A- This beer poured fairly clear for being unfiltered. It had a 1.5-2 finger head that gave way to some decent lacing. There are very active bubbles sticking to the side of the glass.

S- Citrus is apparent. Also some hops and a definite wheat presence.

T- Pretty much a standard wheat beer with the exception of the lemongrass. If it werent for that I dont think I would really remember this beer over any other one. I like that they used lemongrass. It added something more than just citrus would I think. It did finish with a nice little hoppy bite though.

M- Its not harsh by any stretch of the imagination. Carbonation is a bit excessive for me but not prohibitively so.

D- I would drink this all day long easily and with such a low alcohol content I think I could (it actually says 4.4% on the bottle).

Smell is of an abundance of citrus with a touch of yeast. Pretty typical for style.

Taste is rather lemony in the body; tart and citrus. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, as expected. There's a bit of wheat/grain perceptible on the finish as well. Finishes very clean with very little taste left over. Pretty refreshing beer. Nothing exciting for sure but nothing to scoff at.

This beer gets high marks for drinkability and for taste, simply because I feel it's a good representation of style and goes down easy. Very sessionable.

Pours a hazy yellow color with a nice one finger head that gives way to a slight lacing. There is sediement in the bottle and it has a nice unfiltered look to it. The aroma is of wheat with a slight lemon and banana smell to it. The taste is of wheat with a hint of lemon and a hint of grassyness. The mouthfeel is smooth and with out carbonation. The drinkability on this is good. You can have it over and over again. Its not complex as other hef's but it is a solid beer.

A lot about this beer is sort of a standard hefe.. certainly better than any macro garbage but middle of the road as far as hefe's go. What sets it a bit apart is the lemongrass.. The citrus character that is contributed to the beer is really a great addition. The use of lemongrass, specifically, as opposed to just lemon juice or some otehr straight forward fruit citrus also contributes an interesting character to the flavor with a floral sort of presence that in a way is reminiscent of hops but slightly different. Other than that the other thing to note would be a very good drinkability. the light mouthfeel and body give it an airy, refreshing quality that makes drinking several quite easy. It also pairs nicely with a variety of fodos it seems.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle in to a pint glass (no fruit). Light golden clear color with a two finger head, little lacing.
Smell was of bread, caramel, slight bananas. Taste was similar. Pronounced caramel overall tone with little else for me, not much of the usual hefe flavor I'm used to. Very muted and light. Mouthfeel was average. Drinkability was good, easy to put it down due to the mild flavor, but when out shopping for Hefe's in better stores I would probably pass on this one.

Pours cloudy with lots of debris floating about. Ambitious head claws its way up the glass only to fall to a 2 finger height for about 5 minutes.

Smells... wheaty? Some nice grain notes, bits of lemon and almost banana.

Taste follows the smell, but isn't as exciting as the nose hinted. Nice wheaty grassiness, lemony after taste. Solid.

Decent mouthfeel, was a bit rough though.

I wouldn't want to drink these all of the time, but they are drinkable enough to session a few.

Presentation: 12oz bottle poured in pint glass

Appearance: Thick & foamy one finger head. A hazy amber with ample carbonation. Fine head retention with. Thick soapy lacing.

Smell: Grain, malt and wheat. Slight, citrus grass smell (bottle says brewed with lemon grass).

Taste: Grain & wheat and a slight acidic, twang. Good lemony aftertaste. First wheat beer had without an overwhelming sense of grain. However really light in flavor.

Mouthfeel: Both light, foamy, and highly carbonated. Medium body

Drinkability: Like all wheat beers crisp and refreshing always good cold. One of the better offerings by magic hat. While you could still have a few. A decent example of the style, though a bit light on flavor and offers little spice.

A: Dark hazy golden yellow color. Bubbles slowly float to the top of the glass. Hardly any head nor lacing.

S: Various smells are present.. Lemon, Citrus, wheat and even a grassy type smell.

T: The taste is what you smell. Citrus-Lemon and what seems to be a bit of pineapple. It's got a pretty nice balance overall. I dig the spice towards the finish. The taste isn't bad.. but.. I feel like it's missing something. It doesn't leave me craving for more.

M: Very low carbonation if any at all. Very light. Crisp and refreshing.

D: Pretty drinkable brew especially during the summer. It just really doesn't leave me asking for more which is the problem.

Poured an extremely hazy yellow with a ton of floating goobers. This only had a couple cm of head and it left quickly with no lacing whatsoever.

The smell is mostly a grainy and grassy malt with a hint of lemon. It's faint and not much to it at all.

The taste is a zesty citrus-lemon on front and finishes slightly sweet. Flavor is not very assertive, but I suppose that's a good thing considering the lemon in it.

Carbonation is ok, but in my opinion was a little light. The aftertaste is practically non-existant.

The body is light and it has a refreshing feel to it. It's listed as 5% by BA but the bottle begs to differ at 4.4%. Either way, it's light enough to easily consume quite a few. It's a nice summer porch beer.

Overall, an ok brew but nothing special. I won't go out of my way to buy it again but wouldn't turn one away, either. By the way... the bottle says this is a hefe but it does taste more like a pale wheat.

Growler from Grab. Hot that day, so a wheat beer sounded refreshing...its cold and rainy today, yet still drinking this beer.

A- Pours a brassy yellow that is slightly hazey. A good white foamey head that turns into a thin skin. No lacing noted. If someone handed it to me I might think it was a coors or something.

A-Not a whole lot here. Light biscuity malts, slight touch of astringent alcohol. Not offensive, but nothing going on here.

S- The biscuity malt flavor is sweeter than the nose. An almost lemony citrus flavor in there, causing a slight tartness at the end. Meh.

M- This is a light thin bodied beer with a mild carbonation. Meh.

D- Although this is nothing special, I think this is an easy drinker for hot days, when they happen. For $9.95 for a growler, I can't complain.

Decided to use this one to start off my day. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 05/25/2009.

The pour was very nicely done. Nice bright yellow in color with a rich head of white coming up and over the top. Lots of carbonation was evident even through the light haze. Light grain and banana aroma here, some small semblence of yeast as well. Smooth, clean, crisp flavor. Tight flavor profile came in as quickly as it left, leaving no real flavor on the tongue and only a modest aftertaste.

Overall while being quite the sessionable beer, the lack of depth and strong, pronounced profile leave it a tick above average. Still though, this would not be bad at all in a pinch.
