When I bought, drank and reviewed #9 I actually thought it was a pale ale - just a very fruity one! Some of my marks have been upgraded after noticing its actually categorized as a fruit beer, which is typically a style I find dodgy at best. This beer is a keeper however.
It pours with a pleasing, clear orange colour with a white head. The head recedes to a ring of foam and leaves some lacing behind. The smell is huge citrus fruits. Oranges and tangerines galore. I found that the taste has them all over again, mixed with some sweetness and very nice dry finish. Remarkable balance and the taste kept me coming back to this beer time and time again while sailing for a week in the Chesapeake bay. The mouthfeel is remarkably refreshing for a fruit beer being both light and crispy. Perfect after a long day on the water.
#9.. the best fruit beer I've tried to date. Keep an open mind and give it a shot.

Haters gonna hate. I feel like this beer is underrated on here because it has three characteristics that people on BA tend to dislike: it's a fruit beer, it's mass distributed, and it's made by Magic Hat. While not an amazing beer, it's certainly better than average. The point of rating beers on BA is to consider a beer within its own genre...and as far as fruit beers are concerned, I think this one is damn good. If you don't like fruit beers, it should be no surprise to you that you won't like this one. If you think it's uncool to drink Magic Hat, either because it's mass distributed or because of the West 6th thing...then don't drink it. Anyway, now that I'm down off my soapbox, the flavor of this is rich, and the apricots definitely come through, refreshing pretty much any time of year. The color has an inviting orangish hue which I find very appealing. Mouthfeel isn't awesome, a little heavy on the carbonation. Overall, a pretty good beer.
