Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 06-09-1998

A beer cloaked in secrecy. An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there's never been anything else quite like it.

355ml bottle poured into Westy 12 (small) chalice

A: Pours a light golden orange. 1.5 (white) fingernail head on gentle pour.

S: Touch of bready malt, soft dried apricot, and banana. Some citrus too.

T: Mostly apricot here with loads of sweetness - almost too much so. Malt backbone is strong, but not necessarily enjoyable. Still refreshing though.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O: A decent beer, but nothing to write home about. No "born on" date, but I think this might have been sitting around for a bit too long.

Mostly a standard pale ale. The pour is yellow and light. Head is smaller bubbles with good lacing but dissapates quickly. Slight fruit on the front of the beer but goes away quickly to reveal a lighter ale. Mouthfeel is somewhat disappointing and almost flat.

Appearance: Amber/copper color. Filmy off-white head. Semi-translucent.

Aroma: Bready and a little yeasty. Not much aroma.

Taste: Not as sweet as I expected. Nice balance of hops and malt but both are too mellow to contribute much. Almost tastes like a lager. The apricot taste comes out the more I drink.

Mouthfeel: A little watery. Pretty drinkable and almost thirst quenching.

Final Thoughts: Tastes like a scottish ale. Gets more interesting as it warms but not much to this one.
