Notes/Commercial Description:
A beer cloaked in secrecy. An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there's never been anything else quite like it.

Pours an amber colour with small, non persistent head

Smell is fairly plain - very faint hop presence with a more prominent yeast aroma.

Initial taste is a little confusing. The first thing I detect is the yeast. Very estery. Definitely an english yeast as it has the same basic taste as an English PA but without the same hop presence. After that, it really isn't producing much. Very little malt presence that stands out. Fairly pleasant mouthfeel though - medium with good carbonation.

Overall, not a fan as it is fairly underwhelming. The fact that it isn't really coming under a specific style doesn't make it a special, breakout beer...but rather a failed experiment.

12oz bottle from Woolworths Liquor, West Ryde, poured into a Golden Monkey tulip.

Pours an old gold colour with a nice small bubble, creamy looking head of off-white foam which retains extremely well. Little bit of wave lacing.

Smells sweet, honey is certainly there, sweet malt and candied and dried apricot. Not bad, but a touch sweet/perfumey if anything.

Taste is too sweet with a tiny bit of bush honey mixed with heaps of sweet malt and a little bit of a variation in the apricot that you smell.

Drinkability suffers with the sweetness. Nice body, but the finish is cloying and makes this a real slow sipper, when it ought to be a sessionable ale.

Below par, it doesn't do what a pale ale should and that is be refreshing and decently drinkable. Was keen to try this when I saw it, not real keen to buy another sadly. A pale ale with apricot seems like it could work, but this needs more work.

A - Clear as glass, orange amber colour, a short lived thin white head, no lacing.

S - Apricot, orange and hint of yeast. Not a bad nose.

T - Honey and apricot with the slightest of hop bitterness.

M - Light to medium body with high carbonation.

O - Refreshing enough for a hot afternoon but not one for developed palates.
