Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 06-09-1998

A beer cloaked in secrecy. An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there's never been anything else quite like it.

from bottle into DUVEL (@overlord :p) tulip

A- pours a rich golden orange with a 1 finger off white head that has good texture.

S- really could not get past the roasted malt in the smell.

T- apple, and a vegatable oil type of taste and feeling. maybe some caramel, toffee, and coffee.

M- the mouthfeel was probably the best thing i liked about this beer. thick enough and carbonated just right. wet after-feeling.

O- after hearing a lot about this beer i thought i would pick some up. i was dissapointed, but its probably just my own preference. the flavor just wasnt for me. i will say that this beer is fun to try to pick out all the ingredients/flavors. to its credit i believe it is very complex in flavor; i just couldnt pick out everything, myself.

A - About a fingers worth of head an a an off white head the head dissipates at a fairly good clip and has a moderate lacing throughout.

S - There is a very subtle smell barely distinguishable is some toasted malts and a very slight nuttiness.

T - There is some fruity tastes of which i can not discern one from another, a grain taste that is pleasant. a quality beer.

M - there is a realitvely heavy light feel to the beer. there is the feel of some carbonation in the swallowing part of the feel.

D - Not a beer that i would not have again. not very filling as beer but a decent change of pace beer from the traditional.

Appearance is not what I expected. Cloudy, looks like dirty gold. Nice white head that reduces to a thin head that lasts for the rest of the beer. Had a hard time placing the smell. I kept thinking of candy, like butterscotch. Taste was easier to describe, its a really nice maltiness with pickups of wheat and a little sweetness. Alcohol is easy to pick up as well. 2nd one went down easier than the 1st. Clean, somewhat dry finish. Nice. Fun beer to drink and I don't really go for fruit beers.
