Lucky Kat purrs as he pours with a grin on his mangy face and a grin in his searching eye. He sits on the fence he calls home, dividing up from down. Is he an imperial beast or a pale soul from the east? Only he knows and we know only this: if you reach out to pet him he'll bite back with a big, hoppy kiss.

This particular bottle cap read...steal this cap! Firkin witty bastards up at Magic Hat, hey guys another IPA alongside HiPA, cool you're not as lazy and unproductive as your caps would entail. Pours into my pint with some meringue head building layers of light khaki killer fine bubbled creaminess that leaves behind even scattered lacing. Aroma flows efficiently with bursts of citrus peel numbing the palate with a great orange quality in the nose that follows with herbal spicy qualities that include lemongrass with mild sweet biscuit and bread ridden malt tones. Sharply sweet malt and citrus fruit combo with earthy and grassy tobacco combinations becomes more and more freakish. I love a big juicy hopped up alpha acid infused IPA with some balance but these malt and hops are way to involved in a menagerie. An IPA should always let thee know who the victor is in the competition of malt versus hop, in this case it's either one of those split decisions or draws that nobody can stomach, especially after paying an additional fifty bones for some pay-per-view. Even a TKO would suffice but this one doesn't knockout or do anything extremely technical in my imbibing experience, a solid English/American IPA hybrid much like the vehicles driven around Vermont. Go for it and catch a ride in this cost effective fuel efficient house broken beast, thank god there's enough malt and oily lubrication from the hops to equate to a healthy mouthfeel. Drinkability is pretty effortless continue to go forth and drink mind numbingly marketed craft beers with character even if the grateful dead and other rock legends must be bastardized...God Bless America and Magic Hat too!

Amber glow, nice head with serious lacing. The taste is light hoppy, herbal finish. Roasted Malt, hops kicks half way through. Light bitterness, light bodied.

Sampled from a 12 fl. oz. bottle on October 9, 2018.

The pour is amber in appearance with a modest off-white head and moderate clarity.

There is a pleasant white bread crust mat character to the aroma with a lower profile floral hop presence.

Medium mouthfeel.

The taste also has a crusty character but overall it tends to be sweet but balanced with the floral hop finish. Fairly traditional sort of IPA.

Pours a slightly hazy amber color. Aroma is hop forward, pleasant. As others have noticed, this tastes like an English ale with a more forward hoppiness. Solid malt backbone that's never too sweet provides a nice balance to the hops. A slight caramel taste intermingles with the hops. Pretty decent beer, easy to drink.

Pours a deep honey color, on the reddish side, with a one finger dense silky head. Hazy to cloudy look.

The aroma has roasted sweet malt notes along with some citrus hop. Nothing harsh here.

The taste is smooth roasted caramel malt up front. Reminds me a little of Old Speckled Hen except that they put the twist of extra hop bitterness here, which kicks in half way through. I have to say that if there are finishing hops here they are either incredibly well paired with the malt or else they are mostly absent. One could argue there is a bitter-ish citrus hop flavor in it but it's tough to pull out IMO.

The feel is pretty smooth and bitterness is moderate to high.

First off, this is a pleasant beer and well crafted. However it has a bit of an identity crisis going on. It would be tough for anyone doing a blind taste test to put this under the "American IPA" category. Yes they do call it an "amber IPA" on the label, which is smart. Really it feels more of an unfiltered English Pale Ale with extra bitterness and slight florals added in. Again, a good beer worth drinking by all means, but one should choose it with foreknowledge.

12 oz. bottle with a 2017 bottled on date stamp.

A - It pours with a light copper body that has a slight haze. Decent white head that leaves some patchy lacing.

Aroma: fruity hops

Flavor - mild with, perhaps, low bitterness for style but hop forward.

Mouthfeel - Medium body with good. soft, medium carbonation.

Overall: a mild but modestly distinct and interesting IPA that leans towards both an amber ale and a pale ale.
