Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: The head builds up to medium size, light foamy toping with a light tan color. It quickly fades out to just a light ring of lace which is slick and slides right down the glass as I drink. The body has a lightly hazy hue with a wonderful golden honey color.

Smell: The aroma has notes of sweet honey and light malted grain with just a faint touch of citrus.

Taste/Mouth feel: It has a very smooth creamy mouth feel that coats the palate with its sweet honey and malty flavor. Also there is a mild earthy and leafy spicy quality under that big honey and malt sweetness. Carbonation is soft and the body is a solid medium. Its finish is slow and sweet.

Notes: This was my first Braggot style beer so I have nothing to compare it to, although I will say that my overall impression was very positive.

12oz bottle that has been sitting in the cellar for a couple of years...part of an effort to clean out a bit...poured into a Bruery tulip.

A - A firm pour down the center of the glass yields an amber tinted gold body full of suspended yeast particles and two fingers of fluffy white head that exhibits pretty good retention qualities. Head dies after several minutes leaving behind some foamy lacing on the glass.

S - Big spicy and very herbal aroma...quite grassy. Honey, lavender, thyme, some citrus...not much else cuts through this for malts or hops.

T - More malt cuts through the herbal notes than in the aroma...a nice biscuity base, dry and a bit yeasty. Lots of herbal character still here though - floral and grassy hops, mid-level bitterness. A bit medicinal, a touch fruity, rather dry.

M - Body is medium with a healthy higher level carbonation - foamy and fizzy on the tongue. Rather dry overall, rather floral and quite herbal. Lingering bitterness past the swallow.

O - Interesting...definitely a bit different from the usual offerings out there. Grassy and very herbal nature gives it a distinct character. Enjoyable as a once in a while sort of beer, definitely not something I would be interested in drinking regularly though...no chance of that anyway, considering this is about three years old right now.

This brew poured out as a golden yellow color with a white head. The smell of this beer took my by surprise because I didn't know the style was a Braggot and not a Winter Warmer of some kind. The smell was soft and kind of sweet. The taste was just about the same. No winter spices or anything of that nature in this brew. The mouthfeel was highly drinkable. I wish I could have this one again. Glad I got to try it though when it was out.

reviewed from notes, this one was serve in a pint glass during a magic hat tasting i had with my brother in law down at his apartment.

Poured a very clear, honey colored amber with no head and no lace. Lots of visible carbonation streaming up in bubles from the glass throughout the session. The color on this was simply gourgeous, I had not seen anything this shade before, quite stunning actually.

here were very subtle honey aromas and hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. A nice bready grain presence as well as grapes, pears, and a bit of fig could be detected, again though Had a definate mead like feel and taste about it. Flavors were were overshadowed a bit by the alcohol. which you really needed to fight your way through. I could detect the ever so slight hint of honey, and alot of the grape flavor in it. Hints of peaches or pears could be detected as well as alot of winter like spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. A very complex flacor profile for sure on this.

Pours a hazy orange-ish to yellow color with an off white head. In the aroma, ginger, cinnamon, and a mixture of other spices. In the taste, quite spicy, but dry ginger stands out the most. A light spice bite and medium to light bodied mouthfeel, with a dry light spice in the aftertaste. Nice light spice, bet it would be nice for sushi.

12 oz. bottle poured into my Bristol Mass Transit Ale shaker pint glass, Odd Notion (Winter '08) is a hazy, dark dull gold with a small off-white head that leaves light lace.

Smell is strong honey and butterscotch diacetyl, like Wethers candy, appealing, although a bit of graininess comes out as it warms, that I could do without.

Taste is pretty good, I'm really impressed with how robust the honey flavor is here, at a year old. This is the first braggot that I've had a full beers worth of, but it's seems like a good example of the style, distinctly different from any others. There's a pretty strong plasticy phenolic bite to it that I could do without, but there's not overt herb or spice character (which I almost never like).

Mouthfeel is dry, some crispness, medium bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good, I'm really liking the honey flavor, robust but not overwhelming. Pretty smooth, but the phenols need checked.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Off white head atop a a hazy amber in color, loads of spice in the nose, some clove, orange peel and coriander. This taste almost like a batch of Christmas cookies! Bready malt backbone is very reserved and pairs nicely with the spice additions. Very cake like and sweet. Mouthfeel has a decent amount of carbonation and feels a bit sharp. Overall, an odd yet pretty decent winter offering and a good one at that from MH.

Pours a golden orange color. The smell is of sweet desert breads and honey with a hint of floral hops. The overall taste is of a strong sweet bread malt backbone which gives way to a mild hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is of medium carbonation. A drinkable beer with decent complexity to it. Smooth tasting and easy to drink.

Bottle left from the winter 08 odd notion, says I should have drank it by Feb 09. Still plenty carbonated, no oxidation thus far. Looks like a very fortified pee, very golden yellow and hazy. head shoots up a mile. Doesn't smell like much... honey maybe? It's kind of thin, doesn't taste like much, either. Like a watered down honey-wine or mead. Lots of sweet. Nice and smooth though, textured like honey smooth. Nice and drinkable, very refreshing for the hot summer.

A: Darker golden orange, almost appricot

S: Bready malts and sweet honey. A little spice, a little hops and a little booze.

T: Bready malts, sweet honey, spice... bitter finnish. Neither sticking out and making this a great brew

M: Average... medium body, medium carb.

D: A bunch of different things going on, but never comes together.

A - Pours medium gold and has some haze going on. The white head comes to an inch and sticks around for a couple minutes. Abundant lacing is left behind. Odd notion has a nice refreshing look to it.

S - Aroma is light and could use a little work. Some honey kind of sticks out at first. White bread comes through in the background. Hard candy is barely noticeable towards the end. Not bad, just a little light.

T - Very bready right out of the gate with a nice full white bread flavor and some cracker that comes in closely behind. Some sweeter notes come in midway to end. Getting honey and a definite sugary flavor mixed in. One word...refreshing.

M - Lighter bodied with a medium carbonation level. Very smooth with a light and sweet finish.

D - Drinkability is pretty good for this version of Odd Notion. Alcohol is well hidden and it just disappears way too quick. Even though it was released for winter it still does a nice job in the warmer weather as well. The aroma falls a little flat but other areas all come across as solid. I would happily have another one of these...or three.

Thanks to hojaminbag for this one.

Poured a 12oz bottle into my Boulevard Smokestack chalice. This beer pours a hazy, shadowy golden with just a touch of a thin white head that left no lacing. While only being my third or so braggot to judge from, it seems like it has pretty bad head retention for the style. The aroma is of peaches, honey, and floral hops. The aroma melds together extremely well even though the aromas are distinct enough to pick them out individually. The flavor is outstanding. When Old Notion hits the palate it reminds me of sucking on a honeysuckle flower. Sweet honey comes through first, with a blast of floral hops, candy sugar, and just a spritz of fruity citrus. The mouthfeel, in my opinion, should be a little bit heavier then it is but it finishes strikingly dry, leaving the mouth yearning for another sip. If I had a case of this stuff, I think it could really turn it into my summer go to beer. Light and refreshing, it just screams drink me on the front porch while staring at the fireflies.
