Pours in clear and golden with a slight amber tint to it, and a cap of fluffy white fuzz.

Aromas of slightly sweet pale malts and lemony poppy along with nobley pilsnery hops.

Flavor's got the same stuff and more. Slightly sweet pale malts and sweet lemon with poppy seeds (it's kinda like those portillo's lemon poppy muffins). Spicy and bitter in the finish with some nobly hops. Dry with a good fuzz to the carb, and a bit of sharpness.

Interesting brew. Not super sessionable, but I still like it.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume III, Issue II:

Nice! Magic Hat pulled out their supreme extremeness for this one. A Golden Ale with added poppy seeds and agave.

Good white froth to start off with, though it dissipates to a thin lacing. Clear and bright pale golden, a typical lighter color for the spring season. Fruity and nutty aroma with some mildly sweet maltiness in the back. Moderate-sized body is a little chewy and smooth. Nutty and bitter at first, maltiness comes in with a sweet biscuit flavor almost like homemade shortbread. The agave leaves an odd trace of sweetness, and the poppy keeps it nutty along with the malt. Finishes semisweet with a long linger of bitterness.

We really dig this beer--it's a trip, and something we'd love to come back to. Proof again that extreme beer is not just about high levels of alcohol and bitterness that ruins your taste buds. A slice of peaceful beer revolution in a bottle.

Smells and tastes like a typical pilsner. Maybe a little bit more hoppy than a normal pils. Hops are very floral in smell and taste. A little sweetness at the end, but otherwise the malt sweetness is very subtle. I didn't pick up any flavors of poppy or agave even though it is supposed to be brewed with those ingredients. Not a very interesting beer.

Appears a pale golden, very macro esque hue forms a large fizzy head that dwindles down quickle, I don't know what killed the head retention the agave or the poppy seeds. Aroma has a mild chemical twang with light biscuit malt nose surrounded by agave juice which comes of slightly citric in nature with a good amount of acidity. Not really picking up any poppy seed nose maybe it adds a little nuttiness to the malt profile. Flavor wise though starts out with creamy sweet biscuit malts and quickly transcends through the unique agave flavor and forms a bitter earthy edge that is pretty unrelenting on the palate, slightly roasted burnt bitterness lingers. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight cloying bad aftertaste, a touch oily textures with bubbly carbonation and strong resilient sugar content. Drinability is weak hope this never makes it into regular production, they do many other fine brews to have to make and Agave Poppy seed psychedelic experience.

Picked this up in a mixed 12 pack from Green's on Buford in Atlanta.

Pours a clear light copper color with a one-finger white head that recedes quickly into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of pilsner malt with grassy hops. As it warms it sweetens up a bit. I'm not 100% sure I could identify poppy aromas, but I'm fairly certain I'm not getting any.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Pilsner malt with grassy hops up front that carry on to a crisp bitter ending. The hop flavors linger a bit too long. As it warms I feel like I get a hint of agave, but I may just be looking too hard.

Mouthfeel is alright. It's got a good thickness, though the carbonation is a bit off and isn't as clean as I'd like in a pilsner.

Drinkability is OK. I finished my glass without much problem, but I'm not necessarily excited about the prospect of another.

Overall I was hoping for a bit more from this beer, but it's not terrible.

Super clarity in the rust-tinted orange-gold color, with a blinding white head that is never super-thick but never completely dies either.

Predominantly earthy and herbal aroma, though hard to pick out specifics. A little bit of yellow cake batter, wet straw, honey--the typical lager characteristics.

Great mix of grassy bitterness, mango (could that be the agave?), not-all-that-sweet citrus fruit, white & black pepper, butter, and more typical pilsner attributes. Pithy and dry, a little chalky, nice exotic citrus character in the finish, even a bit of lemonade tartness.

Even at a mere 4.2%, this has big character. It's hugely drinkable, too, I really dug it, and there couldn't be a bitter fit for the springtime. They should make this one year-round--and they should also cease with the inclusion of #9 in every single damn variety pack. C'mon, mix it up a little! But this one, this one's a winner.

ABV on bottle: 5%. Best by end of May 09. Into the Shlitz pilsner glass...

A - Perfect two fingers of soft white head with good retention and lacing. Great clarity in the golden body. Quite beautiful actually.

S - Mild pilsener malt sweetness with balancing grassy hops. Poppies and honey were present and sweet in the aroma. All very mild.

T - Dry pilsener malt to start, with honey sweetness that builds in strength all the way through the finish. Slight poppy sweetness at the swallow, that also gains intensity in the finish. All with ample hops that give the beer spicy and grassy notes.

M - Creamier and fuller than most examples, but still plenty prickley.

D - A fine pilsner that uses the spices very effectivly to highlight the sweetness of the beer without being the focus. Very nice balance of flavors. I really can't think of much wrong with this beer. Worth trying, nice session beer.

12 ounce bottle, 5% ABV, best before end of June 2009. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a clear golden/orange color with a small off-white head that went away pretty quickly. Not much lacing, either. To me the beer smells like a typical macro lager, like sweet malt, adjuncts/grain, and also has a slight vegetal aroma. It doesn't smell bad, but it doesn't smell appealing either. Unfortunately the taste is much worse. It tastes like a bad pilsner beer, it tastes very bitter (and not in a good way). That's it, it's just a weird bitter flavor that's not appealing at all. Actually, I can taste a little bit of grassy/spicy hops, but the beer in general just doesn't taste good to me. Mouthfeel/body is light, but it's not watery at all and it is crisp. Drinkability isn't good, but then that's mostly because I don't like the taste of the beer. For every good beer like Roxy Rolles that Magic Hat makes, they make 3-4 beers like this that I just don't like. I wouldn't drink this again. I'm lucky I only bought a single bottle, I couldn't imagine having to drink more than one bottle of this.

12 oz bottle poured in a goblet

Pours a light, very clear gold color with a white head. There was slight lacing and kept a thin head for a few minutes.

I could not pick up much of an aroma, perhaps some bitterness and spice.

The carbonation was nice, but the flavor was just not there for me. The bitterness in the after taste was most pronounced. Reminds me of a German pilsner. I sensed some of the spice, but could not pick up the poppy seed.

Overall this is very light bodied. It is easy to drink as far as mouthfeel, okay for summer. I just don't get the taste.

A-clear with a good head...poured next too a #9 it looks similar in color but with much better head and lacing

S-light and crisp a hint of the poppy/agave combo very clean

T-poppy hits hard imo fiance thought hops in a blind taste but when told it had poppy it becomes apparent...good overall refreshing and unique

M- the lingering poppy aftertaste hurts the feel of the beer as you drink it..initially good...ends just ok

D-great for a summer day or to sip at an outside bar in the heat
refreshing and different from your average taste

12oz bottle into pint glass.

Crystal clear golden hue with a two finger white head that settles to a thick foamy cap. Solid lacing is left behind.

Light crisp grain aromas along with light poppy seed.

The poppy seed is very detectable in the flavor, which are dry and almost have their own toasty characteristic. The malts are light, adding a slightly sweet base. The hops give a mild herbal bitterness.

A decent beer, although the poppy is a slight odd flavor to find in a beer (perfect for the series though), and maybe lowers its drinkability a bit. A decent beer, worth a try.

A) Golden color. Pours with a quarter inch head then settles to the outside of the glass. Active and visible carbonation. Some haze to the body.
S) Not very aromatic. Has a slight pilsner-esque smell.
T) Yeasty, just a slight orange taste. Mild sweetness. A little bitterness in the aftertaste.
M) Crisp and refreshing.
D) A decent beer. This would make a nice summer's day brew.

Grabbed both the new twelve packs the other day as I had realized that there were 5 of the 7 beers in there that I have not had, and that was good enough for me. Went on an epic magic hat tasting last night and went through them all. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 06/05/2009.

Golden straw in color with a big fizzy white head on top. Light peach look to it left me a bit concerned from the start. Then I reach in to get a whiff and there is almost nothing there. Light citrus maybe, hint of grain, but really rather light and dull, a bit dissapointing if I am being honest. Light flavor as well, light fruit, touch of spice, but really rather too light and overcarbonated leaves me lost and looking for much bigger flavors here. Goes down like water, but the taste is far too light to really be enjoyable.

Overall not terrible, but forgettable, I am not sure where they were going with this, but it missed the mark for me.

A: Quite a pale blonde/yellow. Great lacing, and retention is quite good as well.

S: Herbal and grassy. It's got a scent of a very strong Czech pils or Vienna lager to my nose. Not too shabby, but a bit intense and overwhelming in some ways.

T: Very bitter... not the most pleasant thing I have experienced. It's interesting, certainly, but just a big, bitter, herbal flavour that I can't quite place.

M + D: The mouthfeel is good for this style... while I may not be a big fan of the flavour, the moderate carbonation and lighter body do it justice while allowing flavours to linger without being too overpowering. At an easygoing 5%, it's sessionable in the sense of alcohol and goes down smooth enough to fit that bill, as well. I wouldn't go for it again, as there is just something in the flavour that I can't quite identify with, but kudos to Magic Hat for going out there with a strange style.

Bottle with a best by of June 2009.

Pours a pale straw color with a decent sized head, fades a bit fast.

Smell is a light malt aroma, also picking up some coriander/lemony scent.

Taste is light and crisp but suffers from an odd aftertaste, mostly malty with a strong grassy taste that follows up (mostly the cause of the bad aftertaste), I've had IPA's that are earthy/grassy, but this is just plain grassy.

pours a golden yellow color with a small fluffy head that settles to a thin lacing with a decent amount of carbonation. pretty average.

doesn't smell too too strong...alot of floral spiciness up front with some hops iin the background maybe

tastes very interesting....a suprisingly bitter taste...almost peppery with a splash of pilsner tasting hops. i like it.

mouthfeel is pretty good....dry in a good way

drinkability is great on a nice spring day

overall- wow....this one was a curveball. i didn't see it comming hahah...so many flavors here...i knew this one tasted like a pilsner, but i couldn't help but cheat a bit and look at the first reviewer..."poppy agave pilsner" is a very novel idea for a brew, and i tip my hat to magic hat (no pun intended) for having the balls to try this....it certainly works.

Poured a rich golden color with a fingers width of head that thinned out and lightly laced as I drank.

Grassy smell, but not really too much of a discernible aroma. Had a thin but clean crisp mouthfeel, no lingering after tastes. Tasted hopsy with a little twang of bitterness from the poppy seeds. Starts off bitter and just tasting a bit off.

It was okay, but not really something I'd drink regularly.

A: Cloudy golden yellow. Almost no head and minimal lacing.

S: Spices and slight hop overtone. Cloves and ginger included in this complex scented beer.

T&M: Very good complex flavors that are not too sweet. Many spices that are mild enough not to be too overpowering. Light and crisp with slightly dry aftertaste. Very good.

Excellent beer and the best that I've had from Magic Hat. Originally tasted on tap at the Flying Saucer. Have not been able to find a 6-pack and was forced to buy a sampler pack in order to get 3 bottles. Magic Hat should consider continued bottling!

Picked up last Saturday at trader Joe's in Cary. Kind of strange season for a spiced beer but I am a bit curious. Pours a light straw color with a foamy head that doesn't last long. The nose is grainy with slight notes of citrus and spice.

Strong crystal malt flavors backed with noble hops and a lot of yeast, reminiscent of a Belgian. A finishing dose of herbs adds some astringency and complexity. Not really my cup of tea here but instresting and consistent with the style as I understand it.

Single bottle copped from Gary's in Madison...
Agave and poppyseed included in the mix.. Hmmm... Interesting...
Appearance: light-colored, slightly hazy hue...
Smell: Sweet agave(?), lemons, and pepper...
Taste: Surprisingly good, agave, lemons, lime, sugar-sweet water...
Mouthfeel: Certainly light-bodied, and pretty drinkable... Interesting... Not bad

Poured a nice looking golden yellow with a small white head

Has a very floral smell with some hops and citrus mixed IN

The taste is also very floral with a bitterness mixed in the end kinda tastes like if you fermented roses and tulips not real impressed

The mouthfeel was fizzy and light the taste kinda ruined the drinkability of the beer just not a very good floral taste.

Pours a macro-y yellow, maybe a little darker, with a big frothy rocky hed and lots of visible carbonation. Aroma is metallic with a faint exotic spice to it. A little leafy with a faint amount of plum. Taste has a very spicy tart bitterness up front followed by a smooth Pilsner. The bitterness is really pungent and stinging for a pilsner but very exciting to see a brewery working so daringly with such a delicate style. I wouldn't have thought this up. I can't resist comparing it a little bit to macros.. since the predominant character is a lot like bud light. But it's like if they strapped a bud light can to a bottle rocket and shot it full speed through an opium field.
