Very sad to see HIPA disappear but I am excited they are bringing back Blind Faith this summer. I have not seen a mix pack without Circus Boy in some time, so I picked up the Spring Fever mix pack. Circus Boy is so awful that it causes me to avoid Magic Hat mix packs and I'm glad they finally took it out.
A - Hazy dark reddish amber with a one finger light brown head. Good lacing and decent retention but the head quickly dissipates.
S - Caramel and sweet bread, even hints of chocolate. Has a toasted lager aroma that is normal for ambers.
T - Very nutty and slightly sour. More hops than I was expecting, but very well balanced. Slightly fruity and sweet, with a nice amount of caramel and pale malt. Toasted flavor is prominent as well. Finishes hoppy and dry and makes me want a other sip!
M - Medium mouthfeel and pretty creamy. Very smooth and lightly carbonated.
D - Very sessionable beer. Good amount of flavor but nothing overpowering, and well balanced.
Overall, this is a decent beer. It certainly exceeded my expectations but I will miss HIPA this year. That beer got me into IPAs and was one of their better offerings I thought. Can't wait to try Blind Faith for the first time in three years in a couple of months!
