Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Thomas Hooker pint glass.
A: Poured a bright and hazy blonde color with hints of orange highlighting and a significant amount of yeasty hazing. The one and a half finger head of frothy, off white foam leaves behind bits of bubbly lacing.
S: Has a fruity and yeast sediment aroma to it. Traces of citrus fruit, pineapple, grapefruit and banana are picked up in the nose. There's also a light, funky wheat and spice smell in there.
T: A lot of grapefruit and squeezed citrus at first, but it's muted a bit by toasted wheat malt and fruitier ale flavors. Spices and softer tropical fruits blend with a slightly sharp lemon and alcohol combination. The finish is relatively clean, yet hoppy, with residual fruity and herbal oils.
M: Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly chewy due to the unfiltered wheat and yeast. Slightly sharp to the tongue, but satisfying and refreshing all around.
D: An interesting cross-pollination of styles for this year's spring seasonal. At 6% ABV, it's certainly sessionable and has a light, fruity flavor to compliment spicy dishes and enough hop presence to drink on its own. I'm just not sure it works enough with either style, but that's why it oddly works as a half-breed, unfiltered wheat ale.
