Pours a hazed golden amber with a slight headskie. Seems like they took one of their better experimental ginger pale ales and dumbed it down. Simple and drinkable, but needs more ginger to make it what it should be. Still, not bad, just not great. next...

Part of the summer 12 pack.
The beer was a golden yellow color with a pretty tiny white head.
Aroma of sweet malt and a hint of spice.
Downhill from there. Little taste, a hint of ginger that was just there.
Watery, a bit on the unpleasantly sharp side.
Drink at your own risk.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into Pilsener glass. The label listed the abv at 5.5%. The back label has the year of 2010 and the month of July notched for its freshness date.
Appearance: The body has a hazy golden orange color with an average size off white head. The head fades out quickly leaving only a very little bit of spotty lace on the glass.
Smell: I get a good level of bready malt in aroma with notes of clove, citrusy hops and very light fruity yeasty notes.
Taste: There is a nice fruity yeast character with light notes of banana, apricot (similar to their #9) and clove. It also has good base of dry and tangy, bready wheat maltiness. There are light citrusy hop notes that add a pleasant level of bitterness. In all this there is only a faint hint of ginger flavor which seems to hook up with the hop bitterness and then bites lightly into the tongue on the finish. Its carbonation was light and this gave it a very smooth and firm texture.
Notes: I was looking for a little more ginger but overall it was still enjoyable. The odd thing about this beer is that it tastes, smells and looks very much like a Hefeweizen to me.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date on the back label.
Spritzy head lands a thin ring of lace. Golden haze ... lots of floaties in suspension. Some ginger, bready grain and yeast in the nose. Bit of crispness and somewhat smooth, wet malt body. Ginger is there, it is neither too much or interesting enough to really leave a mark. Just ginger. On the beer side, simple Golden Ale base, minimal hopping and a hint of yeast. Finishes with a faint biscuity tone and fading ginger.
A bit too plain for my liking ... this seems to be the road Magic Hat keeps on going down. Safe and simple which does not match their marketing attempts.

Growler pour, $9.99 @ Yorktown beer and soda, Yorktown, NY.
Pour very clear and quite yellow, minor off white head, goes quickly to a collar and light film.
Light and fairly non descript fruity nose.
Not much going here flavorwise. Light fruityness, bananas, strawberrys, with light hoppyness late. Dry, fruity, and chalky in the finish.
Fruity summer refresher. More marginal brew from MH. Now what am I gonna do with the rest of the growler?

Pours a nice bright golden slightly hazed hue with a bright white head forming thick and dwindling rather quickly. Lacing forms above the body with thin lacing around the sides of my glass. Smells of spicy sliced ginger notes, almost an Asian dish fare comes to mind. Mild citrus and spicy back ground hybrid Belgian yeast powder comes to mind. Much better than other ginger ales out there. Flavor doesn't hit very harsh it blends some light bread dough with spicy citrus notes, candied sliced ginger tones with orange/lemon zest tones. Peppery spice background yeast tones with light Belgian character going on. Finishes slighly creamy on the palate, mouthfeel is medium bodied nothing sits too cloying or overpowering on my palate, carbonation is lively quite the peculiar odd notion this summer season. Drinkability is decent a beer that I would like to see on occasion, but I'm not thinking a regular on this one.

[Very clearly written on the label: 5.5%. Just sayin'. And under the bottle cap: "To conceal a Fart is an age-old Art."]
Golden-yellow in color with a long-lasting half-inch head. Not much lace really...
Spicy nose, clearly rather ginger-ish, having the hot spiciness of that wonderful root, with a more general herbal layer underneath. As with most beers brewed with ginger, it overtakes other, more traditional beer characteristics, but what's here is pleasant enough.
Flavor is yet another reminder about why ginger doesn't totally work for me as a beer ingredient. Pretty much only ginger present in the flavor, although I picked up traces of various other flowery and herbal characteristics. Lemon, too. Still, it's like a designer ginger ale really, and even the root's spicy bite is subdued here. A nice, agreeable flavor, certainly, but not scratching that beer itch I get every day at about this time.
The mouthfeel is crisp and tingly, well-carbonated but slick/round enough to keep it from totally feeling like soda. And that's good, because the flavor really veers into soft drink direction.
Despite all my bitching, this is made well enough and pairs up with a hot summer day quite nicely. I just can't help but feel unsatisfied with the beer/soda hybrid vibe this puts out...

very belgian, orange-bright fogginess with loose, slippery lacing.
average wheaty-yeasty nose.
very robust, fresh, belgian wheater....not my style, but for what it 'is' it's somewhat right on target. i'll give it that. i think the ginger is an emperor's-new-clothes thing. maybe. this is less offensively wheat-y, so let's give it a 'good' for what it is. be. am.
thin mouthfeel. characteristic of the style? crisp. let's say this is one notch above 'average'
drinkability. now can i be myself? if you like wheaters, sure, enjoy. but i still can't take this style very often. i love yeast. i love bread. but here...? doesn't work. drinkable if you have massive amounts of spicy foods. or chocolate. anything to augment this. it isn't awful. just not what i find appealing.

Poured into a pint glass.
A: Slight haze, with a pale golden body. Super white head, which is lost quickly.
S: A bright aroma, mostly ginger that come through.
T: Bold Start, with a ginger overload. A unbalanced taste with nothing but ginger and spice of ginger on the finish.
M: Spice, with a mellow finish and a short lingering taste.
D: Not an attractive taste to comeback to. Not one to seek out, when in search of a ginger beer.

Pours a moderately boring golden color with a rather unassuming little head.
Smells like #9 but with the ginger you get from sushi places in place of the apricot smell. Interesting.
Ok, again a lot like the smell. Thankfully, I actually like that ginger stuff everyone else throws away.
In the mouth it is a bit light, but with decent carbonation.
I actually liked this one and it would go pretty well wigh sushi. That doesn't make it drinkable. It is, however, the best ginger beer I've had in recent memory.

Hazy gold with small suspended floaters. Thin white head.
Smell is grainy with a hint of spice.
The ginger comes through in the flavor, just slightly. Other tastes are a light spice and grain malt. The taste overall is very bland.
Thin and moderate carbonation mouthfeel.
This drinks much lighter than 6.2% abv, but is a rather unintersting beer. It's an easy summer drinker and I got this in a cheap variety pack. Not something I'd seek out, but was a nice different option at the local grocery store.

Poured from 12oz bottle.
A- Pours a hazy golden yellow color. Two finger white head that shows poor retention. Light streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.
S- I mostly got lemongrass and wheat for about 90% of the aroma profile. There was a hint of ginger but that was about it for the rest of the aroma profile. Nothing to really get excited over.
T- Lemon grass and light wheat tones make up a lot of the flavor profile in the front end of this. There is a underlying light malt base to this beer that never really comes through. Ending of this beer stomps out all the front forward flavors in this beer and replaces them with a shit ton of ginger. I mean ginger is all you can taste on the backend with a tiny hint of alcohol. Not impressed with this beer overall flavorwise but this just killed it all for me.
M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation was a little more high than I like but good for Magic Hat's beer. Ginger and light wheat notes left on the palate. Aftertaste is mostly ginger with a hitn of sweet alcohol that dies before the ginger flavor. Blending on this beer was off with ginger dominating most other flavors in the beer. No off flavors were present due to over gingering this beer. Light alcohol drying on the palate.
D- Average at best. The ginger in this beer was very off setting to me. I didn't expect much and to be honest I didn't get much so I was happy as I could be with that. A nice try on a summer style beer but please go back to the drawing board guys.

A- Light yellow/golden with a white head
S- hoppy and a definite ginger smell in there
T- Not nearly as big of taste as the nose but a decent pale ale with some ginger in there, again not nearly as much as was present in the nose
M- Light and clean with the nice ginger aftertaste
D- Nice change of pace and would be a 5 with a bolder ginger taste

Poured beer into glass, good carbonation, little head quickly fades to a small head ring around the rim of the glass. Beer is a golden cloudy. The smell is nothing spectacular, faintly of ginger. The carbonation is good enough to tingle on the tongue and again the slight ginger taste I'm detecting. The beer really isn't that awful, good change of pace from your typical New England microbrew summer beer.
This is the first time I have tried the Odd Notion which appears to be a seasonal brew that changes yearly/seasonally.
The beer also tasted better straight from the bottle than from the pint glass.

A--Hazy yellow with a half-inch white head; the beer itself looks almost like a witbier, overall, I really like this beer's color, but it's not too impressive
S--Seeing as this is a ginger beer, you can smell the ginger with every breath; it also has a smell similar to a white beer (witbier) like it looks. It's very pleasant, I like it
T--Ginger, ginger, ginger. That's the best definition I can give or how it tastes. It has a pleasant aftertaste like an ale, but the ginger makes this beer. If you don't like that, I would avoid this beer.
M--Goes down fairly easy, but it has a bit of a tangy aftertaste to it, that's why I gave it a 4 instead of a higher ranking
D--This beer is good in moderation, but the thought of drinking more than one really turns me off. I've never been a fan of Magic Hat, and this beer doesn't help their case for me. Decent brew, but that's about all.

reviewed from notes, this one was serve in a pint glass during a magic hat tasting i had with my brother in law down at his apartment.
A - Poured a plae golden yellow with a thin off white head. Decent lace left behind from a sparkling clear liguid. A nice bit of carbonation bubbling up from the bottom.
S - Smell was light, with the biggest hints coming from grain, and a nice bread tone. Slightly sour tones present as well, maybe some sour grape or apple.
M & T - First impression was crisp and somewhat bitter. Nice play on the palate and a decent hopper aftertaste. Biggest flavors were by far malts and grains, with a musty bread flavor being the biggest factor here.
D - Overall it was a little bitter to be a real sessionable ale, and is honestly a bit forgettable. Nothing really standing up and greabbing you about this one. A decent pale ale that doesnt really stand out in the crowd.

Best by July '10
A: Pours hazy straw gold with a 2-finger frothy white head that was retained through the first quarter. No lace.
S: Grain sweetness with lemon and spice from the ginger and hop.
T: Coriander and ginger are upfront initially with sweet bready grain taking over. Flavor is crisp with a slight bittering on the finish. The spice becomes boring and the brew overall is pretty one-dimensional.
M: Low body with a fizzy feel. The grain helps round out the feel a bit but overall a bit overly carbonated.
D: Nothing too extraordinary here. Exactly as they described a ginger-spiced summery ale. Its refreshing but not one I'll seek out.

12 oz brown bottle with a drink by date of October 2010 notched on label
Magic Hat Odd Notion Summer '10 poured a slightly hazy golden color and produced a nice 2-finger head that had good staying power and left behind good lacing. The aroma was of light malt and even lighter ginger. Taste is slightly tart and citrusy with the ginger not really coming through until halfway - I guess the ginger flavor must have to 'build-up'. I wish the ginger was more pronounced.
I was hoping for more ginger flavor - just a little on the plain side for me.
