Brownish amber color with a little haziness. One finger head started to dwindle immediately, holding a few moments as a thin layer, eventually becoming a skim.
There's a smooth, sweet-smelling caramel aroma that is most appreciable. Notes of toasted bread, doughy yeast & hints of earthy hops. Smells pretty good.
The taste is nowhere near as robust as I was hoping, though it improves as it warms. Toasted bread stops by briefly for a spot of caramel before hurrying off to sort out tea leaves that are strewn across the dirt floor of a cabin.
Basically medium bodied. Carbonation is slow to start; smooth upfront, getting livelier toward the finish. Moderately sticky with a coating finish. Toasted bread lingers for a long, long time.
Whether fair or not, I was expecting far worse based on previous experience with Magic Hat.
