A - Poured clear copper. Color was good if not a bit light. Head was thin and lasted 15 seconds IF that.

S - Not too strong of an aroma. Sweet malt...bit of biscuit?

T- Not bad not great. Not a real Oktoberfest. Has some raisiny/spicey flavors. Almost like part Ofest part spiced ale.

M - Goes down REAL smooth crisp and clean

D - Sometimes I'll want an Ofest, sometimes a pumpkin ale. Rarely would I want them mixed, but if I get Oktoberfested out this fal and want a change of pace, this is an OK choice. Maybe I'll buy another sixer if on sale.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Slips out a clear, amber-hued body with a small-sized, sudsy, whitish head.

Smell: Sweet-smelling, tangibly fruity ("I smell apples." -TheLibrarianGirl) nose, with notes of sugar-encrusted, toasted bread, nuts, and smoke. However, that smoke hint is very faroff, very vague, but just barely there. The hops aren't really coming through clearly on the nose.

Taste: Modestly toasted nuts and bread with a hint of burnt sugar. Soundly sweet, particularly as it warms. Gentle fruitiness incorporated into the taste. A hint of clean, just noticeable smoke character. Characteristic Magic Hat yeast. Floral, spicy hops (boosted by the addition of rye) with a medium-low level of bitterness. The hop flavor, while present, isn't rather effusive. Develops a bit of cinnamon as it warms. Lightly bitter, earthy finish. Leaves teensy touches of sugar, smoke, and spice on the tongue in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Fairly smooth mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Tasty for a Magic Hat aletoberfest. I thought it was pretty decent, though I feel like I'm in the minority in thinking so.

Pours a pretty copper with a medium sized head. Smell is sweet malt- some apple notes. Taste is toasty malt. Caramel. Apple note again. Pleasant light lingering bitterness. Tastes autumnal. Medium bodied and well carbonated. Very easily drinkable. Really, quite a nice fall seasonal.

Was surprised to see this beer at my local Jewel grocery store before seeing it at any of my local "beer" stores.

Copper and amber colors come together well for this amber ale Octoberfest brew. The head is quick and scarce, while the bubbling is moderate in visibility.

The aroma is a very simple toasted grain with some caramel notes. The hops add a little balancing Earthy note.

The taste is toasty, and a little earthy. A little caramel with some brown rice flavors. The hops provide a little mint and grass for balance of the sometimes adjuncty sweetness. Simple and toasty, but not worth of any references to Oktoberfest in my opinion.

Certainly not as drinkable as a good Oktoberfest.

Hex Ourtoberfest pours a very clear light amber with a tiny little head that disappears in literally seconds. after a while, it looks like i'm drinking apple juice.

smells of sweet grainy malts, maybe slightly buttery.

has a biscuity, caramel malt presence that's slightly buttery. there is a slight hoppiness imparted by what tastes like noble hops. bitterness is slight, and there is a little sourness lingering on the palate.

mouthfeel good. the carbonation is perfect, and it's medium-full in the mouth.

a strictly average beer on all counts. the label is kind of cool, though.

Happily came across Hex, "Ourtoberfest." in my local beer store over the weekend. Have always liked most offerings from Magic Hat and I was not disappointed this time.

Poured a rich red, similar to an Irish Red. Maybe an inch of head that clung to the sides all the way down. Beret happy that the lace stay thru the whole drink.

Clean smell. Not as hoppy as I would have expected.

Taste was quite good. Clean, with a bit of clove, it was easy to drink and even easier to open a second bottle.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a translucent amber color. Has a thin, fizzy, tannish head that dissipates quickly and leaves no discernable lacing.

Smell: Malty and slightly fruity with hints of caramel. Slightly nutty as well.

Taste: Has a slight hop bitterness up front that develops into a sweet malty flavor towards the back. Not as malty as I would expect from an amber ale; the hops tend to dominate here. Leaves a hoppy aftertaste with hints of caramel malts.

Mouthfeel: Has a sharp carbonation bite to it with helps make up for its relative lack of body.

Drinkability: A so-so attempt at what I assume is an Oktoberfest-style beer. Easy to drink and certainly not unpleasant, it is unfortunately also thoroughly forgettable.

Best before Dec 31/2010 (lots of time left!). Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A - Dark Amber, small head that dissipates quickly with very slight lacing at the edges, not a lot of obvious carbonation.

S - A bit of dried fruit with some yeasty undertones.

T - Fairly light, again slightly dried fruit flavor but with some malt overtones. Maybe even a slight soapy quality!

M - Nice and clean mouthfeel. Light, but not overly so, with mild carbonation. Slight bitter aftertaste, but brief.

D - Very drinkable with fairly decent thirst-quenching properties.

A decent, but not overly remarkable drink. Refreshing, but not outstanding in any dimension.

This beer pours a nice amber color with a thick white head.

The smell is nothing to speak of really. I get a slight malt sweetness and maybe a hit of rye but it is so light I am not really sure.

The flavor is pretty week also. It is not bad by any means but it just seems watered down. Again I think I am detecting the rye but it is so light I can't be for sure. I also get non of the smoked malt.

Great mouthfeel and very drinkable. It is a pleasure to drink and if the flavors stood out a little more it would be great.

Poured out of a bottle into Duvel tulip.

A - Deep orange copper out of the bottle with about a half inch of head that receded fairly quickly. No real lacing to speak of at all.

S - Fairly light smell. Has a yeasty overtone. Not much to speak of.

T - Quite a bit more bitter then I expected. That cancels out some of the caramel overtones. Has an earthy taste as well.

M - Leaves just a bit of aftertaste. Very light carbonation.

D - I suppose it's drinkable but honestly there are much better Fest's. I was disappointed in this one.

12 oz bottle with a best by stamp of DEC 31 2010. Pours a mildly hazed, light copper color with an ample cap of beige foam. Average retention and zero lacing. Cool label though, claiming it as "Ourtoberfest".

Nose has an apple pie breadiness with some green grape fruit and floral hops. Malts are faint, but lend a honeyed grain presence at best.

Taste is very Un-oktoberfestbier to say the least. I see this is listed as an ale, but still...heavy on the fruit and even a bit tart. Malts have some caramel and toast undertones, but not even close to the backbone most autumnal releases showcase. Hints of sourness and cantaloupe as it warms. Bad beer, I do not like this one bit, glad I only bought a single.

Pours a clear copper with with a small head and a decent amount of carbonation active throughout the body. Aromas are surprisingly sweet and caramelly, and not nearly as toasty as I expected for a fall seasonal. Taste is very toasty, with notes of toffee and a mild bitterness that comes through the loudest near the finish. Not great, but a not a bad bargain priced beer as far as fall seasonals go.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a light amber color with a white head. The aroma is strong toffee with not too much else. The flavor is toffee, earth and dirt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Like a lot of beer from Magic Hat, the beer is average across the board.

"Beer reviewed from notes"

A-Poured into a pint glass from the tap. Pours a light amber with flecks of red. decent amount of speckled lace head is Bone white.

S-I am not sure whats up with the scent of this beer. It smelled very musty. Not sure why but the scent of something close to wet towels killed all other scents in this beer. Almost to the point of me questioning drinking it.

T-Taste is awesome. Lots of malty sweetness with a very mild amount of bitterness at the end. Good complexity with nothing clashing terribly.

M- Mouthfeel was also dead on for the style.

D-This was a decent beer if you can get past the scent. Not sure why that happened but it was a first for me. I wont be getting this one again.

A: Dark Reddish Amber with a small white head. Clear.

S: Yeasty, Bready, Caramel Malts, Peated Smoke aroma, Roasted Astringent aroma.

T: Sweet Caramels, Roasted barley, a touch of chocolate, and peated malt character. Similar to aroma. Complex Malt flavors. Not overly sweet. a tad astringent but not offensive. subtle lingering english hop character.

MF: Nice and smooth with low/moderate carbonation.

D: My favorite Magic Hat beer i've had so far. Lots of character and flavors. My bottle must be fresh because you can taste the grains perfectly. Alcohol is well hidden. more like an Irish Red ale or a Scottish 80 Shilling than an American Amber. Enjoyable.

I was excited for the weather to cool off and the Autumn beers to be released. I purchased this beer with with moderate expectations and an open mind; I was dissapointed. The Hex Ourtoberfest tasted like an uninteresting amber ale. Uponn puring into the pint glass I noticed and odd aroma; can't quite put my finger on it. It's a medium-body ale with a sweet lingering aftertaste.

There are certainly better autumn offerings out there; skip this one.

Being a big fan of Octoberfests, I purchased a 6-pack of Hex with the full realization that an Ourtoberfest would not be a true marzen. However, I thought it might be an interesting interpretation of an autumn product. It didn't take long to realize this was a rather unique product.

Poured into a pint glass, it looked like a typical Red Ale but had a weird and rather offputting smell. Unexpectedly sweet and sugary with bready overtones. Decent carbonation but a lingering sweet aftertaste. Not at all what I was anticipating but Magic Hat has surprised me before - unfortunately, this time it was a negative surprise.

It's not a drainpour but, on the other hand, I'm not really looking forward to the remaining 5 bottles.

Just picked up a sixer of this stuff at my local deli and it looks quite intriguing.

Appearance: Poured a dark to bitter light coloring of copper brown. Very nice half inch of foamy head that quickly ceased to exist.

Smell: Malty but with a slight hint smokiness. Also has a sweet smell sensation.

Taste: Heavy with sweet malts and roasted grains over a bed of smokiness. Quite bitter that gives it a suprising kick.

Mouthfeel: Leaves a lingering sweet and bitter taste. Sort of thickness that I do enjoy. Almost nutty-like if thats a word, I just invented it then.

Drinkability: Goes down with a smoothness that reminds me of previous brews, so not actually special in its own rite. I did enjoy this brew but for octoberfest, I think i'll look elsewhere, but my hat off to this brew. Cheers!

I poured this 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

A: clear reddish amber, 2 finger head without much lacing and no cap.

S: slightly musty, funky yeast, caramel, soap.

T: the fruit sweetness is quickly interrupted by the funky/soapy/medicinal flavors. It is not a drain pour, but it is not good.

M: the best part of this beer, creamy, moderate carbonation.

D: with so many good fall seasonal beers out there, feel free to skip this one.

Procured a sixer at the grocery mart. Served in a pint size Sonoran pint glass.

A: Poured a tannish amber-gold with an off white head of foam that laces nicely on the glass. Clouded and thick-looking.

S: Not much going on here cept some light malt and a faint dark fruit presence.

T: Nice and mild, refreshing balance between malt and hops and nothing offensive reminds me why this is my favorite style beer. I get hints of honey, biscuit malt and faint floral hops. Finishes clean with a light bitter remnant left behind.

D: Glad I bought this sixer. I'll be killin it off this evening.

Pours a light mahogany with very little head and zero lacing. Looks very thin even for an octoberfest. Lots of active carbonation.

Smell is pretty surprising. Pleasant bready malts up front with some fruit in there. sour cherries, plum, very sweet smelling and different for the style.

The taste is a weak interpretation of the smell. Strong bready malt backbone. Some tartness but it is more from the hops in the finish than any fruit from the nose. Somewhat watery and thin.

Mouthfeel is thin and a tad over-carbonated. Prickly in the tongue.

This beer is very drinkable and goes down easy. Not the tastiest interpretation of the style I've had but decent. Due to the light body and decent taste I would say this is very sessionable but not a beer I would reach for again.

A tawny gold tinted amber. Hex, Magic Brewing claims as their "Ourtobefest", a strange intensely flavorful concoction, that has no balance whatsoever, just a continual splashing of juxtaposed flavors. Even the aroma is a bit weird, with odd combinations of sweet malty notes combined with surprising bitter dry finish.
A very odd beer indeed.

Can be enjoyed as long as you forget all about recipe focus. To put it another way, TV's Dr. Phil might remark: "You are all over the place with this one."

Appears a semi transparent, lght orange toned amber with a small white cap that quickly fades away into a gentle cap and collar. Tiny speckles of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of toffee, caramel, vanilla, mild spice, fresh bread.
Taste is of the aromas with a hoppy punch and a yeasty bitterness. It looks and acts like an Oktoberfest but alas, it behaves like an ale on the palate. It lacks that smooth, sourdough crispness that I look for in a true lagered Oktoberfest beer. A mild wood like finish lingers.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, heavily carbonated, with bitters of wood, yeast, and hops dueling with each other during the swallow.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass.

A: An orangeish copper hue with bubbles, no head, and a faint glow. Mostly transparent.

S: At first, just beer, but then as it opens up, I smell sweet-sour scents, malt, and - credit goes to LairdChisholm - melon.

T: Mm, malt sticks with you, toffee-like, especially when swallowing. The main flavour has a caramelly flavour with a light character reminiscent to the melon scent. Overall, caramel toffee characterises Hex for me. The aftertaste is similarly sweet, but with a hitherto hidden hoppiness. It lasts a very long time.

M: A little sticky, but otherwise average.

D: A very enjoyable beer. Sweet, but drinkable. This should appeal to many people. Recommended.
