Pours a golden orange with a fluffy white head. Decent retention and very nice laceing.Aroma is of citrus hops. Body is medium with some carbonation. Taste is grassy, with a mix of fruity earthy hops. Grapefruit and orange peel are in the mix as well. Excellent.

Poured from the 12oz. bottle into a Newbury Comics/Faneuil Hall pint glass.

The color is a hazy orange/yellow with two finger of foamy white head and some thick lacing left on the glass.

The smell has some green, earthy flavors. There is a cut grass flavor but also has a bit of a flint-like flavor in the nose.

The taste pops a bit with some grassy hop flavor. Some piney flavor that reminds me of a Douglas fur or other type of tree. The hops leave a very pungent bitter flavor through out and hits the hardest toward the end.

The body of this beer is medium and has a way of holding itself up throughout. The feel is pretty smooth as it goes down and well. There is a slight aftertaste but leaves quickly.

Well, picked up a six pack of this after enjoying some Magic Hat HIPA earlier in the year. The one liner under the cap read, "How Did You Get Like This?" Poignant.

Poured from a bottle into Sierra Nevada pint glass. Pours w/a nice two finger head, clingy lace. This beer is cloudy as hell!.. almost looks like cider in the light I was in. Smells grapefruity, some nice hoppage. Though my expectations weren't too high, this beer tastes actually really good. Magic Hat has found a winner in this IPA/Wheat hybrid... I found myself making repeat trips to the fridge for refills, it's a drinker for sure. A good amount of carbonation, not syrupy, you can notice a smoothness from the wheat that you don't normally get in a regular IPA. Hop level is no where near the HIPA, which also attributes to the smoothness and drinkability of this one. This beer also gets tastier as it gets warmer, which rules.

So, if you're a dude looking for a total hop fix, look elsewhere. The Encore is just a solid subtly fruity, endlessly drinkable celebratory ale to usher in the new year. Enjoy!

12oz bottle in a pint glass

A: Looks good. Deep copper color with nice head that lasts and clings well to the glass as the time progresses.

S: Like a juicy IPA. Lots of citrusy hop up front, not overpowering but just right. Smells like I want to drink it.

T: Citrus hop upfront but not overpowering. Weak malt, but acceptable for the style. A little syrupy but very tasty. A good IPA. Not great, but definitely good. More hop power to make it great IMO.

M: Good mouthfeel. Carbonation is right, not syrupy but not fizzy. Easy drinker, the hops are a little harsh on the palate though.

D: Good drinkablitiy. Easy mouthfeel makes it an easy drinker. Good taste makes it a happy drink.

All in all a good IPA. Would recommend. Not as off-key as other ales from MH. I like this beer.

Slightly hazed pale apricot colored with a full inch of fluffy white foam that settles out slowly leaving bumps and dimples of foam.

Bright and inviting aroma of tangerine and orange rind.

Flavors of bright citrusy hops upfront, moving to fresh cut pine. An understated honey malt rides beneath adding some balance. Subtle notes of cinnamon and toffee. Firm bitterness lingers, changing to red grapefruit rind and sappy pine notes.

Smooth and even mouthfeel. Very tasty and drinkable beer, my favorite IPA from MH thus far, I hope they keep this one around.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, light brown color with golden hues. Has a large, fizzy head that dissipates quickly and leaves very little lacing.

Smell: Definitely citrusy. Has a strong lemon/grapefruit hops smell to it.

Taste: The beer hits you strong up front with citrusy/grassy hops. Towards the back, it gains a touch of maltiness and a slightly sour flavor. Magic Hat's website describes this as a wheat IPA, so I'm attributing that sour flavor to the wheat in this beer. Pretty damn tasty...

Mouthfeel: A little light on body but still crisp and refreshing.

Drinkability: A unique and highly drinkable IPA. This IPA is definitely hoppy but not overwhelmingly so. The wheat in it gives it a slightly different flavor and, overall, it's a good effort from Magic Hat.

had the chance to try these two out of the new seasonal pack, i always seem to find my way into them some way or another. served cold and into a pint glass.

a light amber pour, with a moderate lacing that fades as quickly as it begins and fades quickly with a light lacing around the sides, aroma is fresh fruit, light bready and sugary notes that spread across into the flavor. sweet oranges, hints of pineapple and passion fruit and a touch of zest come into play. i actually really liked the flavor as it had a juicy quality to it and really set it apart. smooth finish with a light dry note and a nice, light carbonation.

overall not a bad ipa at all. i dont seem too have an issue with their ipas, it seems most of the other offerings come off bland.

very smooth and tastey, not a typical brew from magic hat. much different than say the #9 which is fruity, this IPA is very hoppy much like other india pale ales. very drinkable but also nothing extraordinarily here, that being said, i like this beer, no complaints.

A-Much lighter than I was expecting. Pours an orange-yellow, with little head that dissipated rather quickly

S-Hops with earthy tones.

T-Tastes how it smells. Very hoppy, I was surprised that Magic Hat would make a beer with this much hops. Not very bitter though. Sweet citrus notes as the beer was warming.

M-Smooth, not much after taste though

D-At 6% I could have a couple of these while watching Monday Night Football.

Reviewed on 3 December 2010.

Poured right out of the fridge into a Sam Adams Summer Ale glass, producing a firm 1-finger head, reducing to a nice film, lacing is a little stickier than typical Magic Hat beers. Color is a cloudy amber-orange. Aroma of earthy, slight souring hops, and citrus, with a hint of...tobacco?? Now we're talking loose tobacco -- not crummy big-label cigarettes. There is also some wheat on the nose. Taste of clean citrus hops, a little grapefruit, apricot, and a sliver of bitter kick.

Letting this beer warm up brings out the freshness and earthiness of hops. Tropical fruits come out of nowhere when tasting warmer. There is something unique about the aroma...some sort of slight sourness...it is difficult to say whether or not that is a good aroma, but it must be because I'm so intrigued. This is an excellent session IPA. The mellow MELLOW bitterness does not zap the palate in the slightest. Some light sticky malts cling to the palate. Magic Hat's Hi.P.A. and Encore are the best of the series I've ever had.

On the neck: Best by Jan 31, 2011.

Cloudy, peppery, burnt orange color, with an absorbent amount of carbonation, and about a finger of two worth of head with that retained itself nicely throughout the session.

S: Nice citrus bomb, with grapefruit hitting the nose first, followed by orange, wheat, and an entire lemon peel.

T: While there was some of that wonderful citrus juiciness on the front part of the taste, the aftertaste had kind of an unpleasant chalkiness, which killed the sweetness, muted the citrus, thereby making the booze more transparent. Bummer.

M: Like I said, it was a bit boozy on the finish and I wish there was more organic sweetness in general. The carbonation was spot on.

D: Not a bad IPA (MH said on their website that this is a Pale Wheat). While I really dug the nose, I was surprisingly disappointed by the taste. Still, this is better than a lot of Magic Hat's stuff.

New offering from Magic Hat in their Winter Variety pack. Pours a cloudy orange color, nice fluffy head. Great citrusy aroma to this one. Taste is medium bodied, TONS of hops. Definitely the hoppiest Magic Hat I've ever had but it's still well balanced and makes for a very smooth drink. MH's IPA's in the past seemed to be more of the English style, this is definitely a West Coast smack you with hops variety, and I like it a lot. Nice finish, solid beer... recommended.

Poured from the bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Light orange in color with medium head retention. Enough carbonation for the style, but not overly fizzy. A very nice citrus aroma
balanced well with the hops. Not too heavy in body, and goes down easy. At 6.00 abv, this beer can pack a punch.

Poured from 12oz bottle.

A- Pours a hazy golden orange color. One finger white head shows low retention and caps the beer. Ringy lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Tons of citrus and lemony hops in the front of the beer. Light pale malts in the background of this beer. Ending has a light grapfruit aroma to it.

T- Nice light bitter hops in the front of the beer. Sweet pale malts in the middle of the beer give way to a citrus blast of hops in the backing of this beer.

M- Light medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Hops and more hops left on the palate with a little bit of alcohol in the aftertaste. Alcohol has light drying on the palate. Flavors were well blended with little off flavor.

D- This beer has a well hidden ABV. I was surprised that this came from Magic Hat but then again I'm not. It is good but a little watery at times...although once again this is Magic Hat so I wasn't that surprised.

The beer pours a hazy orange color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great! It has a very nice pale and biquit malt scent along with an excellent citrus hop character. The hops work well with bready notes. The taste is good. It has a very aggressive hop character that resinates in the finish. It's well recieved and compliments a solid pale and bisquit malt base. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking beer. It has to be the hoppiest beer Magic Hat produces.

Hazy golden to amber in color, with a thin head that dissipates rapidly. Pleasant aroma blends baking bread complemented with citrus hops. Solid, grapefruit citrus with a firm backbone and the slightest bit of caramel malt on the back end to make this interesting. Medium bodied with mild carbonation makes this very drinkable.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Pig's Eye Pub pint glass.

A: Hazy, golden orange yellow with a sudsy, two-finger head of white foam which leaves a bit of sticky lace. Slight chilled haze and some floating sediment against the moderate carbonation and relative clarity.

S: Herbal, juicy citrus hops, notably grapefruit, pineapple and pear, amidst a toasted grain malt sweetness.

T: Juicy and bitter herbal malt and hop blend right off the bat, with big doses of peppery, floral and bittersweet malt and sticky, resinous hops. The finish is bitter, full bodied and a bit chewy, with lingering hop resins.

M: Medium-full bodied, a tad pulpy and chewy, but relatively smooth and drinkable.

D: At 6% ABV, its a juicy, herbal, somewhat unfiltered American IPA with sturdy session power - for a season outside of winter. It's a pretty good U.S. IPA, just not with the malt and hop spiciness I'd typically look for in a winter IPA. That said, Encore is a solid option and one that bodes well for the "IPA on Tour" series from Magic Hat. C'mooon Fat Angle and Heart of Darkness.

12 oz bottle into DFH snifter

A - Cloudy orange-copper with a half a finger of soapy white head. Great lacing, very impressive.

S - Floral (lavender?) and citrus (grapefruit mostly) hops dominate the nose. Lotta hops, and I can't get much else. A slight sweetness. Fruity.

T - Follows the nose. Floral and citrus hops and some sweetness. Finish is bitter hops followed by... nothing; there's no real aftertaste.

M - Medium to light body with great action from the carbonation.

D - Very easy to drink, but the bitterness in the finish could be a problem for some. Tasty take on the style. This certainly calls for an Encore.

A - Poured a hazy copper which was kind of unexpected for an IPA since I have been having many clear ones, with an inch of fluffy head

S - Mostly pine and resin with a bit of citrus and malt. Smells kind of dry hopped.

T - Ow dry hopped is right! I am not sure what kind of hops were used but they leave quite a dry feeling on the palate. The taste is pretty balanced but mostly sweet citrus hops and a prickly pine bite that taste like fresh cut hops.

M - Pretty bitter and dry. Kind of hard to finish.

D - Well I loved the HIPA and dig the Lucky Kat but it seems like a dry hopping flavor from this IPA wasn't clicking with me. For reals I did kind of buy it for the cover art and it still is a pretty drinkable brew but one and done for me.

Not even sure why I'm bothering to try this as everything out of Magic Hat lately has been sub par. "Don't get rusty before getting old and crusty" the wisdom from under the cap.

A big creamy and frothy head rises up over 2 fingers and fades semi slowly with a bit of lacing. THe color is super hazy nectar orange peach.

Nose brings fresh citrus hops, a bit of musty fresh hop resins, a bit of grapefruit, and a very light hint of malts. Actually has a really nice hop aroma, very surprise.

Taste is pretty good too, but more of a nice American pale ale than IPA. Some light citrus hops, a bit of musty fresh hop resin, slight sticky punget hop flavor, light bitterness with hints of astringency, very slight grapefruit and orange peel. Very very light malt, which I think it could have used a slight bit more malty balance, but otherwise pretty good. A bit of a bubble gum hop flavor too. Finishes with a bit more bitterness, but it never gets very bitter, hence the pale ale not IPA. Also on the finish is a bit of sweetness, little stickiness, some astringency, and lingering hop resin flavors.

Mouth is medium bodied with good carbonation.

Drinkability is so-so, with some of the astringency on the finish, as well as a bit of sticky feel and a weird dryness on the back of the tongue. But otherwise almost sessionable.

So, I was fairly surprised by this beer. Nice fresh hops, a good choice, a bit of extra astringency and hop resins that went a little too much. It could still use a bit of work, a little bit more malty balance, more bittering hops, a bit more attenuation, and a bit more clarity. Otherwise a big step up for Magic Hat.

Cloudy orange-amber color. Very nice three-finger head; settles rocky leaving a thin ring of lace initially.

Lots of raw hop smell right up front. Fresh. No malt aromas.

Classic IPA flavors: Light pale malt up front with a bitter hop wallop quickly descending on the tastebuds. Full bodied with some spritzy carbonation. The hop is simply a bitter flavor delivery system. It doesn't have a more specific background taste. Like I said, it is a perfect fit in the category, but it doesn't offer anything different or unusual.

Poured into a tulip glass. This is probably the best beer Magic Hat has put out in bottles in a while. If you had that 100 IBU IPA and enjoyed it then check this out!

A - Amber in color, sort of caramel. Looks like a New England IPA.

S - The smell is very nice, however I rated it down because it's not overly strong, you really need to waft it to smell it. Citrus, piney, and definitely some wheat.

T - Very hoppy and spicy, it's great but may dominate your palate, not that that's always a bad thing.

M - Possibly the best part, biting carbonation, sticky and resiny.

D - This depends, the average hop head could kill six, but this could necessitate antacids in others if consumed in mass.

Over all very nice!

Straight from the bottle, this smelled as an ipa should. Citrus is predominate, mainly grapefruit and hops are also clearly noticeable. Taste was very good, grapefruit, lemon and hops all make themselves known with the slightest warmth from the alcohol on the finish. Mouth was light to medium bodied. An incredibly drinkable ipa and look forward to having more of this in the coming months.

Overall this is a solid ipa, i've had better but for what its worth a good ipa. Comes with my highest recommendation.
