This one pours a beautiful cloudy tannish-blonde color with a thick and creamy head that lasts a very long time. The head settles slowly leaving the faintest tracing of lace down the glass that also shrinks with the head.

The nose is peppered fruit and sweet malt with notes of honey, bread, apples and spice.
The beer is a nicely bodied decent mouth feel beer that is not too thick but has a definite presence on the palate.

The flavors are excellent; the malt is there balanced between fruit and dry, and perfectly blended with the hops. Strong notes of peppery bread with apples that match the nose well along with caramel, sweet malts and nicely bittering hop finish that is not clinging to the tongue. I can swear I get faint hints of cardamom and flowery notes in there as well, extremely subtle, but definitely there.

Overall I really like this beer. The only down side is it is extremely drinkable and I find that my glass empty’s way to fast. (957 characters)

L: Pours a clean and clear golden yellow with a medium sized and fluffy white colored head that leaves nice lacing down the glass.
S: Smells of sweet wheat malts, hints of elderberries, and some nice spices mixed in.
T: Tastes of sweet smooth wheat malts, a mix of cloves and spices and the perfect amount of elderberry to finish it off. It was very refreshing.
M: Smooth, light bodied, perfect amount of carbonation, light feeling, great sessionable beer.
D: Overall a great mix of feel and flavors, very drinkable beer. (521 characters)

Another retired Magic Hat beer I won't be able to review. Had so many of these before I started reviewing. Had a blueberry wheat taste. Fit my tastes very well at that time. (176 characters)

Love the new label. I myself am a huge beer geek and love all types of beers. Always have been a huge fan of Magic Hat and their artwork is as always great.

With that said I always disliked Wacko and was thrilled to see Wacko retired for this new brew.

A: Hazy as a beer like this should be.

Smell: This has summer beer written all over it with the smell.

Taste: As some know Elder Berries are very very tart and this beer has a tartness to it that is awesome. Nothing sweet or nasty, just a hint of tartness that does not get old with each sip.

Another winner by Magic Hat.

For a beer geek like myself that doesn't need a palette destroying hop beer, this one is fantastic. (680 characters)

Magic Hat is becoming my favorite brewery!!! It's different, nothing else like it. You can definitely taste the elderberry, and it works. Took me a while to find this, but actually found it at a Kroger and Only one particular Kroger here In Indianapolis. And that was after I checked about 15 places. We'll worth finding it!! (325 characters)

A: this beer pours a dark orange with a hint of haze. Start as a 2 finger foamy white head that dissipates into a thin layer of foamy white bubbles.

S: The smell is of mainly floral hops and grassy notes. Also has hints of coriander and honey to sweeten the finish.

T: Taste consists of coriander, grassy notes, and a little bit of citrus spice, kind of like an orange tang. Sweetness of the honey follows on the back end. Taste is like a light Saison!

M: Moderate carbonation is present at first, but then is hidden by the cloudy citric presence. A little lacing is there depending on what type of glass you choose.

O: All in all a very good beer for a nice breezy, summer day. Very drinkable with a lot of earthy flavor. One of Magic Hats better brews and if you love Saisons, you'll enjoy this beer! (806 characters)

Elder Betty is my favorite fruit beer I've ever had. It's not like other fruit beers, where you think you're just drinking cider; there's enough of an aftertaste that reminds you that it's beer to know it isn't cider, and it's not overpowering with one fruit. I love it. (271 characters)

A: Poured from the bottle to a goblet, this beer is orangey tan in color. The white foam is average inch it does stick around long enough to give the beer an attractive cover with creay bubbles.

S: Very Berry aroma with notes of wheat and grains.

T: Is fruity and wheat- like, like enjoying a bowl of captian crunch. The taste is full of black & blue berries, with a good wheat backbone... bready and creamy texture. The hop presence is only slight.

M: A nice Cream Ale Weiss, some fizz.

O: Very nice summer brew; ballparks across America need to be serving this. Enjoyed very much. (586 characters)

From Magic Hat 2012 Summer Seasonal assortment, cap say's "In time, we all rhyme."

Aroma of slightly sour fruits. Pours a hazy light orange colour with a nice but very short lasting head. I'm partial to fruit beers, and this one hits all the points. The berry is not overpowering, just the right tart tangyness. It has the nice breadyness I expect from a Weiss as well. Overall, it's a good drinking beer. (406 characters)

Fruity and flavorful as is to be expected by MagicHat. The scent and the flavor are nearly the same, reminiscent of blackberries but not in the way you would think of them traditionally. They combine a flavor and an aroma into a bottle that is subtly sweet, and delicately smooth enough to be a classy fruit beer, at the same time staying true to ithe maker. (358 characters)

Having a new beer to get me through the work of a hard project. Hope it won't affect the results.

I poured this into a fluted style glass. I got about two fingers of light foam that goes down really quickly. The coloring is brownish-yellow and pretty clear with tons of bubbles coming up from the bottom.

I really like the light berry smell coming off the bottom. I could only presume that I'm picking the elder berry. I also get some light flowery hops.

The flavor is pretty sweet, like crunch berries. It works well for a warm evening. This is pretty simple and clean.

If my mother smelled like elder berries (requisite Monty Python reference), then I wouldn't really complain. I like the berry presence in this beer. (723 characters)

Elder Betty brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company. This brew pours out a cloudy amber color with a small white head. Going to say this brew is unfiltered. Elder Betty has an ABV of 5.5%. The smell is rich with spices and some grains and fruit. The taste is great smooth and rich with spices and berries. Elder Betty goes down smooth with no bad aftertaste. There is nothing bad to say about this brew. This brew starts off smooth with a clean finish. I like how this brew has more flavor than most brews on the market. This brew was more than what I was expecting. I would buy this Elder Betty again I'm giving this brew a 4.50 out of 5. (635 characters)

since I drank it from a bottle i can only judge the bottle design I really like magic hat bottle designs. especially their spiral cap design. makes you feel like youre drinking a true micro-brew

Smells fruity like elderberry.

Tastes fruity a little sour but good. kind of refreshing.

Its a lighter beer.

I dont drink it all the time but if im in the mood for something light, fruity and different, it hits the spot.

Ill keep buying it. (442 characters)

A: Pours a slightly dark orange with the fruit in it clearly darkening it.
S: Very fruity aroma with a nice amount of head that slowly dissipated over a few minutes.
T: A smooth, sweet fruitiness that is very much the fruit as it overpowers the yeast of the hefe. There is a little wheat taste in it but for good or bad the fruit clearly takes over this beer. I love the taste of the elderberry as it's sweet without being too sweet and therefore love this beer. Again though there is no yeast flavor which is strange in a hefe.
M: Decent thickness and great carbonation level as it isn't as carbonated as some wits and hefes.
O: I was pleasantly surprised with this beer as it's fruitiness is sweet but not too sweet and has a lingering taste I really like. This beer gets poor reviews and I can understand if it's b/c the yeast doesn't show up as it's strange to drink a hefe and not taste the yeast but otherwise I really like this beer and think it's a good one to drink now and again. I don't want more than 1 per sitting but it's a great change of pace. Drops just below 4.0 due to the "wouldn't want to drink more than 1." (1,129 characters)

Pours a light shade of amber. Very mild foam. This beer is well carbonated and bubbles like a champagne. I don't typically like fruit beers and didn't think I would like this one because Elder Berry is usually too tart for me. It was the perfect amount of tartness to make this beer taste like an ale with a cider-like touch to it. I would definitely enjoy a session with a six pack of this sometime, preferably on the beach. (425 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a New Belgium tulip. The pour is a hazy, almost murky orange with a thin head. Very weissbier-like nose with hints of apple, clove, and orange. Not getting any berry notes on the nose.

The beer is light bodied with a (proper) soft mouthfeel. Nice sweet wheaty flavors hit you up front and are joined by traditional banana and clove notes. Right at mid-palate, I do get just a hint of berry and it adds a nice tart complement to the weissbier flavors. The finish is neither dry nor spectacular, but the beer is easy drinking and extremely refreshing.

This is a fantastic weissbier that all fans of the style should try. The use of elderberries is not overdone at all. Rather, there is just enough to complement the traditional flavors. (762 characters)

Pours a straw yellow with no head at all, no lacing, decent amount of bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass but they disappear the moment they reach the top.

Smell is a sweet malt front with hints of fruit dancing about, can't quite make out what specific fruit but I'll go out on a limb and say elderberry (although I've never eaten one on its own).

Taste is essentially a fruity malty beer, the sweet malt and the light fruit aspects dominate, no real hop balance, decent carbonation in the mouth with a light tart finish (nothing puckering though).

I actually like this more than I probably should, it goes down wicked easy and is very thirst quenching, probably better for a hot summer day where I could pound a couple of these like nothing. (754 characters)

Aroma: Mild to moderate aroma. Wheat, pale malt, some fruity berry in the mix. Mild American hops. Low yeast character. No clove or banana.

Appearance: Pale orange, looks like apricot juice. Medium haze. Lots of tiny bubbles rising along the edge of the glass. Head is pale white, low retentio.

Taste: Lots of pleasant wheat. Mild pale malts and mild to moderate bitter hops. The fruit is ok, nothing special. Elderberry, but concentrated, a bit synthetic but OK. Quite sweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Thick and oily, almost milky. Low smooth carbonation.

Overall: Not bad. A great spring/summer brew. Good wheat taste and decent fruit presence. (648 characters)

A: Pours a hazy golden amber with a fizzy white head that dies away to a thin ring of mousse within a couple seconds.

S: Aromas of elderberry syrup, wheat toast, vanilla, cream, and butter are present on the nose. Not nearly as cloying as I was expecting.

T: Notes of wheat toast, cream, vanilla, butter, grass, straw, minerals, and elderberry wash across the palate. The finish is smooth and sweet with fleeting impressions of elderberry and wheat toast.

M: Light in body and relatively dry. Carbonation is crisp and active. Very drinkable on a hot day.

O: This is a simple, straight-forward beer that (thankfully) does not succumb to Magic Hat's tendency toward sweetness. It may be nothing all that new or innovative, but it is an effective thirst quencher nonetheless. Should be worth seeking out for fans of fruit beers. (829 characters)

Sampled back on 11/23/13. Chilled down bottle to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler. Poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a pretty reddish golden yellow in color. Not much of a head is seen and some very little spotty lacing when sipped. The aroma is of a berry mix with some grain. Very nice. The taste was about the same with some wheat after taste. Very nice despite the above average carbonation and not too sweet as you might think. No bitter after taste. A good different type of brew. (486 characters)

I poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a nice straw gold color body with a small fizzy white head that doesn't hang around for long. The smell is kinda fruity with some wheat notes lingerling around. The taste defently has a nice wheat/malt and fruit flavor balanced out real nice. The berry flavor is nice on the back of the tongue. The mouth feel is really nice and overall a nice and different take on a hefeweizn. (423 characters)

Pours a cloudy, maize/copper color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus (elderberry?), wheat, sweet malt, hint of yeast, and clove. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of elderberry, sweet malt, clove, and a hint of wheat. Overall, good appearance, aroma, and mouth feel. The body is a little lacking, though. (394 characters)

Clear amber colored pour, fluffy white head on top. Sweet, fruity aroma, some yeast esters. Musty fruit.

Crisp flavor of berries which linger through the aftertaste. Mild bitterness up front. Cracker like grain malt. Smooth finish.

Nice take on an American wheat beer. Elderberries added a nice fruity depth, would be nice to see that playing off some more adventurous yeast character. (387 characters)

Picked up a mixed six from Magic Hat, had not actually had any of their beers but had not heard good things. Pretty good looking beer, reasonably hazy , decent head that grabbed the glass. Not much to the nose but a decent taste. No idea what an elderberry even is but decent tasting beer. Nothing great but a good beer that is worth enjoying. (343 characters)

A: Pours a hazy amber color from a regular 12 oz bottle with a small patch of lacing in the middle, with bubbles continually rising from the bottom.

S: Smells lightly of straw with a hint of elder berries. Usual notes of wheat beers are present as well.

T: The taste is pretty much the same as the smell, though as other reviewers are noted, the elder berries are a little bit more pronounced producing a slightly tart taste at the finish.

M: Light bodied beer, with a medium amount of carbonation.

O: Overall, pretty tasty, this is going to make an excellent summer beer, I'll have to remember to pick up a case or two while they are still available. (655 characters)
