A dandelion beer is a fine choice for a dandy gentleman such as myself.

Pours hazy, like a pale wheat. Smells like a cross between a lightly hoped wheat and a Zwickle--very big floral nodes against a background of saltines and grain. A nice, refreshing, and quite spritely smell.

Tastes good, but not quite as good as it smells. The grassy floral zip is a bit muted, replaced by nodes of dried and pressed flowers that are more like potpourri than fresh dandelions. Starts out flowery, gets sweet and lightly wheaty, ends dry. Plenty of variegation with no off nodes.

Magic Hat's flagships are almost all very good. I'll never understand the animosity these guys generate.

12 oz. bottle, with some sort of code on the side. Acquired as part of the spring variety pack. I've had this beer before, but I don't remember what it was like, so I'm excited to revisit it.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a hazed bright golden colored body with some nice sediment floating about. One finger of fizzy bubbly white head with nice staying power. Some soapy lacing. Looks good.

S - Smell is pretty light, but pleasant enough. Bready pale malt presence. Grassy / herbal with some light florals, and I might even say actual dandelion at times. Crisp fruity yeast presence. Mild hop derived citrus / lemon. It's nice, but it's faint.

T - Taste follows the nose - pale / bready / honeyed malts, crisp earthy yeast, & some grain / wheat / husk flavor.

M - Feel is crisp and clean. Smooth, easy-drinking, and light-bodied with good solid carbonation. Lightly bitter / dry.

Overall, I thought it was pleasant and simple enough, and would definitely be a likely contender for repeat drinking on a hot summer day. I'm not sure why this beer has such a low rating, but it definitely deserves higher. I'm a fan of these spring seasonal beers that Magic Hat does like this one and the Magic Hat HiCu, and I look forward to more.

Smallish white head just sort of sits above a clear very well carbonated pale golden colored beer.

Lemony aroma with a bit of light malts blended in.

Light tart lemony citrus taste that seems to bring just a hint of some spices along, giving this an almost lemony pepper taste, but on the very light side of that equation.

A light dry aftertaste that seems to have a bit of the lemony aspects remaining with this lighter bodied drink.

Considering this is listed as a Herbed/Spiced Beer I would have to say this one is on the lighter side of that equation and it is a very easy to drink beer without the negative tastes that come with beers like Bud Light. If you want to ween a light American lager drinker on to better beers, something like this or Shiner Bock would be good gateway beers.

Thickly hazy, this is a very nearly opaque pale yellow brew with a sturdy, frothy head almost one finger tall that has above-average retention, a thick froth depositing patching and spotting alternatively as it goes.
The smell needs to be worked on to be drawn out. It's a bit odd. Thick breads, lemon juice and grass would make a decent profile, but the yeastiness is strong, what you'd expect to smell in a yeast packet, with an oddly spicy note. It's also got a bit of boiled corn husk, which is interesting, though it fortunately doesn't go too vegetal.
The flavor is an interesting mishmash of things; it's dry and pithy, nutty, juicy, creamy sweet, peppery and leafy all in one. It makes for an unusual beer, but nothing clashes too much and it comes off pretty well.
The carbonation's a bit strong, but it adds a strong crispness that isn't just bite. The body is light, and a good smoothness runs through into a dry finish.

Pours a pale yellow color with a bit of sediment. White head forms and recedes to a collar and provides little to no lace. The aroma is expectedly floral, like fresh flowers and a bit of underlying sweet malt. In the taste, earthy notes and edible flowers come to mind, with a certain earthy flavor and hops providing a firm bitterness. Light to medium bodied and fairly earthy in the finish. Overall, an interesting beer, not too bad.

Pours a very bright yellow with a thin layer of white foam.

Smells like bitter dandelions.

Tastes like bitter dandelions and lawn weeds.

Light-bodied, low-medium carbonation, floral, bitter.

Overall, not terrible, but bitter and not very good.

A: the most yellow beer I have ever seen.... tall, cottony, white head - falls rather quick.... liquid looks rather clear, maybe slight haze.... "spring seasonal"?! - how old is this bottle?!.... some drapes of laces, keeps a thin cap.... a decent slug of sediment left in the bottle

S: lemon shortbread, lemon juice.... champagne-like.... unique, bright, leafy aromas (similar to a gruit I brew that contains yarrow, mugwort, etc).... very much a light lager undertone

T: peculiar... appropriately light and mellow, lemon tart w/ crust.... no hops in this? (there is) can't taste them and the bitterness is very much reminiscent of dandelion greens (if you've ever eaten them, you'd know).... only a mild malt flavor, marginally grainy-sweet.... overall, the taste is pleasant, just doesn't pop and isn't as aromatic or boldly floral as it should be (could be the age of the bottle...)

M: feather-light, soft... subtle carb tingle.... becomes bone dry even before the finish.... ultimate hot weather palate-satisfier

O: yeah, this is totally a spring or summer beer.... probably just sitting in the cooler at that bottle shop this whole time.... my marks may be a little high on this one, or just reflective of its potential.... an interesting, if not mind-blowing beer

A- so many reviews stating that this beer is clear, but I am failing to see it. White foam on top of a dandelion colored beer that is filled with a ton of sediment and and bottom of the bottom flotsam. No notes on the bottle advising to pour slowly.

S- it has a faint sweet floral aroma. Nothing overpowering, but pleasant.

T- It has a spicy floral flavor with a bit of bitters on the finish. Definitely has that pollen aromatic feel to it. It has a finish that hop heads will appreciate. it just lingers on and on.

M- A bit thin but balanced.

O- It wasn't a terrible beer, Nothing to run out of your way to get but if you have a chance, give it a shot for something just a bit different.

Poured out of a 12oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Pours a clear amber color with a flimsy white head that receded pretty quickly. Minimal lacing.

S: Malty with a hint of mint, citrus and wet grass on the nose. There is a floral aroma blending into the nose, perhaps the dandelion, but not clear. The smell is overall subdued.

T: Malty flavors layered with mint, grasses, citrus and floral (dandelion?) notes. The hop bite in the finish is minimal. Finishes sour, with no detectable aftertaste.

M: Watery. Light mouthfeel with high carbonation. Smooth, but watery.

O: Not a standout. Seemed interesting but really was not. Was not bad, but for something so unique on the label, the beer just didn't really deliver.

Bottle poured into pint glass

Nice white foam head with good lacings. Tiny carbonation in translucent golden yellow liquid.

Aroma is sour and almost skunky.

Light, watery, sour, some carbonation.

I do not like green eggs and ham, I do like them here, I do like them there. I do not like this beer.

I bought this because I thought the bottle looked cool and the idea of a dandelion beer was intriguing. I did like the finish -- the aftertaste was balanced.

Unfortunately, I found the overall taste to be like licking dandelion milk off a stem, which wasn't thrilling. I don't think I would buy it again.

3/4 pint of ale brewed with dandelion poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear straw, yellow with a decent white head that stays throughout. Sporadic lacing sticks on the pint glass.

Smell: Lemon, grass, bready malt, and a hint of mint on the nose, but very subtle overall. I also smell something floral...maybe dandelion, but not distinct.

Taste: Like the nose, grass, mint, bread and floral notes. No real alcohol present in the taste. This beer has a lite hop bite in the finish. It is also rather sour in the finish.

Mouthfeel: High carbonation. Smooth over the palate, but too watery.

Overall: Nothing outstanding here, except this beer's appearance. I would not reach for it again. I was very disappointed by what seemed like an interesting idea in this style.

Partly cloudy, yellow bodied beer with good carbonation and a decent white head. Bready, grassy aroma; rather soft and subdued. Grainy, bitter flavor; yeasty. Medium-bodied; dry finish.

A weird little beer. It's not bad yet I can't quite figure this one out. I suppose the dandelions have something to do with this beer, but it's really difficult to figure out what they add to it. Drinkable but not memorable.

Drainpour.
Maybe one of the worst craft beers I have had.
I keep trying different offerings from Magic Hat because I am a fan of #9 and I most often find some real duds. This is one of those. Another was their beet colored beer. Just terrible. I guess they are "one beer wonder" brewery.

12 oz bottle from Trader’s Joe. Pours golden with short-lived white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of piney hops and pale malt. Body is medium and tangy. Taste is of piney hops, biscuit malt and some weird staff. Finish is long and leafy. This brew is strange.

undated 12 oz bottle served in a lager glass. Pour is clear with fine-grained carbonation and a durable white head. A thin partial coat of sediment was left on the bottom of the bottle.

Surprised by the moderately intense and mainly hoppy aroma. Nice balance of hops and malt, leaving this surprisingly hoppy brew a touch sweet at the start and mildly bitter in the finish and aftertaste. Dandelion, unless specially treated, is very bitter too, so the absence of a solid smack of bitterness is surprising. The contribution of the dandelion is subtle, however. Mildly tart too, with a hint of citrus.

M: Crisp; medium-light body with medium+ carbonation; semi-dry finish.

Overall: A tasty and distinct ale worth seeking out, and worth selecting when a summertime refresher is desired that's bolder than usual.

Appearance: The load pffft when I opened the bottle was a giveaway that this beer was going to have a lot of carbonation and it pours out almost all foam though though the liquid buids with a slightly hazy honey color over time; of course, the flip side of overcarbonation is typically great head retention and plenty of lacing

Smell: Grassy and herbal with a cooked vegetable character

Taste: Rather neutral malt flavors, up front, but then the lemony herbal and rather medicinal dandelion flavors take over; tart finish with the cooked vegetables underneath

Mouthfeel: Watery and overcarbonated

Overall: I'm really quite disappointed with this beer and find it hard to take another sip

A: Cloudy gold with a towering white sea foam head.

S: Oat, malt, vague grassiness.

T: Malt with some flavor I cannot identify, grassiness (most likely the dandelions).

M: Medium

O: An easy drinking beer for summer. Decent body, some grassy flavor, a bit of oat, good malt backbone, and a slight bitterness in the finish. Overall, the flavor is not that interesting considering the ingredient.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance - Served a light golden orange colored brew with a one finger fizzy head. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is a bit grainy and musty with some notes of a bready like smell. Mixed with these aromas are floral and grassy smell (dandelion?)l as well as a bit of light fruit aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a more crisp bready taste with a decent level of graininess. As the taste advances a floral and grassy flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle with them growing stronger to the end of the taste. Along with this an almost hay-like flavor comes to the tongue combining with the rest to leave an odd wild field taste with grass, hay and grain.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather crisp with a carbonation level that is on the medium to slightly higher side. It is nice for the style and makes for a nice crisp feel on the tongue.

Overall – Nothing all that fantastic here. A little unbalanced with too many grassy and herbal flavors and not enough other flavors to mellow them out.

Golden yellow color with sediment and mild carbonation with decent head. Herbal, dry, hoppy aroma. Very hoppy like an IPA without an ashy aftertaste. LOTS of herbal notes with a hint of sweetness. Drinkabilty is great. Finishes with a bit more sweetness and herbal notes.

P: Cloudy golden apricot appearance with bubbly carbonation and a airy off white head.

S: Seems odd but smells like diluted Victoria's Secret Love Spell body spray...my wife wears it that's how I know.

T/M: Honey suckles, lots if floral flavor, pale malt, salt and herbed tea. Faint peach and Bartlett pears hindered in the bitter floral base. There is a touch of metallic towards the end of the swallow. Nice subtly acidic mouthfeel with bubbly prickliness.

O: A nice floral ale that really brings the floral to play. I really like this but probably not one I would seek out.

"Stop and smell the petals". Magic Hat's Pistil is a wheat ale brewed with dandelions. Previously made as a summer 2012 Seasonal one-off, this has returned to Spring seasonal variety packs.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to my Magic Hat pint glass. Served above 53º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a sudsy white head that recedes rather hastily. Body color is a hazy pale yellow with a touch of gold, chock full of light and dark pulpy sediment. Carbonation is moderate and spritely. Head quality and lacing both suffer in this beer. Those who are not fond of chunks in their beer may be wary of the appearance. 3.25

(Smell) Biscuity pale and acidic malts up front with grassy hop notes and a mild bitterness. Fruity yeast tones of banana and white grape are also evident. Aroma has a potent acid-based tartness to it and is very cider-like. This is very different from last year. 3.25

(Taste) Pale, biscuity malts with a mild grassy flavor and a dry, somewhat vegetal bitterness on the finish. If it's the impact of dandelion, it doesn't come far from low-alpha grassy hop varieties. Overall it is mildly bitter over sweet; drinkable but not as unique as one may hope a beer with dandelion is capable of. Biscuity yeast and a mild faint lemony finish, yet not much emphasis on the acidity nor the fruit notes perceived in the aroma- both fall flat. Overall the beer has a decent drinkability but nothing sets it apart from the large repertoire of pale ales with mild, accessible flavor profiles geared for high drinkability. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Slick, oily texture with subtle prickly carbonation. Some pulp but not enough to impact drinking quality or make a significant difference in the overall impression, just impacts dryness a touch. Low alcohol presence. Light/Medium body for the style and light body overall. 3.5

(Overall) While it had good drinkability and there were no big off-flavors, I felt very let down by the depth this one had. The dandelion didn't create nearly as strong an impact nor a unique flavor character to the beer like I had hoped, only managed to dry the finish out with a vegetal bitterness. As a stand alone pale ale, this one does a decent job but doesn't integrate the dandelion petals quite like I had expected. 3.25

3/4 pint bottle served cold into a shaker pint glass.

Pistil is a slightly hazy golden yellow with about an inch of white head. It has good retention and nice lacing as it settles.

Aroma is mildly hoppy is a floral slash grassy kind of way. Not much in the way of citrus or pine.

Flavor is sweet like honey up front but bitter like dandelions from middle to end. I think we've established that hops are the best way to bitter a beer and I'm all for experimentation but, if you've tasted the foul white liquid from this weed, you know it has no place in beer.

Mouthfeel is light in body and nicely carbonated. Well balanced but rather unpleasant to drink.

Overall it's a swing and a miss.
