"Don't Hex What's Best"

A: Pours a straw yellow color with a good amount of sediment present. A fingers worth of head

S: Pretty much just get light malts and some spicy yeast. Sort of get the dandelion, but it's very light

T: House yeast and dandelion are the most prevalent forces in the taste. Not much behind them, either. Just not much going on

M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation

O: I guess if you like light and mildly herby flavored beer, this one is for you. The dandelion doesn't impart much taste which leaves the house yeast which people tend to either love or hate... sort of middle ground for me. It does have a nice summery vibe going on, though, which is what MH was probably going for with this one

Consumed 6/15/12

Appearance: Golden yellow color, pours hazy, and there are strange, tiny sediment particles floating, suspended throughout the beer - kind of unattractive - starts off with a foamy white head, fades to minimal lacing

Smell: On the mild side, with some grass and some light bready notes - typical Magic Hat yeast aroma - slightly spicy and floral

Taste: More interesting than the smell would imply - grassy and spicy, in a good way - floral, and a little peppery - herbal and tea-like - slightly bitter, nicely sweet, a little grainy

Mouthfeel: Medium body, pretty smooth, adequately carbonated

Overall: Not bad

I must admit, after drinking some recent beers from Magic Hat, I was not looking forward to this. Surprisingly, this is actually pretty interesting. I don't really know what dandelion tastes like, but I'm pretty sure this is the flavor...

thanks to tenderbranson69 for sharing this bottle with me, enjoyed chilled from a tumbler.

The color is golden with thick 2 finger cream and swirls of suspended particles intermingle with lots of fast moving bubbles of carbonation. The lace collects and head retention is good. The smell is very wheat oriented with mild bready notes from the yeast and a herbal/floral but mildly citrus aroma augments the malt aromas. The feel is creamy, highly carbonated and mildly astringent with some slight tangy acidity in the finish, body is semi-full for the strength.

This is a unique beer because I can't say I have had any type of beer with dandelion in it before. The smell is totally different than the taste until midway through and it starts with a slight malt taste, but gets very floral almost grassy and slightly lemony in the next taste. The yeast adds a light creaminess to the flavor with subtle toasted tinges from the malt which has a mild sweet element, but overall the flavors are ok, just seem to cohabitate in general. Overall a good beer to try if you like wheat and spice, but not a really complex beer, more for summer relaxation and I felt it was decent.

i like it, its clever. definitely an american pale ale, hoppier than youd think from a flower beer, but its nice. smells like the spirit of dandellion, very polleny, like biting the yellow head off one of them, then eating the greens and roasting the root. its hard to place really, in any meaningful stylistic sense, but it sure is drinkable. flavor is very pollen based, in a good way, like coconut water in the sense than its drinkable and satisfying, but you always want more. im impressed with this, feel is intersting, plenty of body for a summer beer, but medium carbonation that lets you taste the whole thing. overall a beer i will drink a million of this summer, and a one of a kind creation. i like the bold hops in this.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.

The color is a deep orange with a slight whitish head and a small amount of lacing left on the glass.

The smell is a slight bit malty with some floral aroma that is coming off a touch spicy in the nose as well. There is some tame hops bitterness here in the nose but seems to meld well with the other aromas that it is hard to pick out.

The taste is a little bitter but has some light flowery flavor that hold some of the smack of the hops from taking over. There is a slight lemongrass and ginger flavor in the background that gives this beer a push that was unexpected. There is a slight spicy flavor that is mixing things up and keeping it interesting in the flavor.

The feel of this beer is smooth with a light body and has a nice drinkable feel. The light body allows this beer to hold up well on a hot day.

Slightly hazy with zillions of tiny floaters. No apparent sediment, however. Light shade of amber in the tall glass. Pleasant enough head and spritzy on the tongue.

Light mouthfeel. A hint of malt with a mild honey and orange peel flavor. Faint touch of hops. Well, faint touch of flavor all the way around. Not crisp enough to really be refreshing, and not flavored enough to be interesting. Quite drinkable but the appearance is more than a little off-putting.

From the summer mixed twelve pack bought at Trader Joe's in Washington, DC.

12oz. bottle from Magic Hat Summer mixed 12. Served in a snifter. One of the best artwork labels I've seen on a bottle.

A- Pours an orange gold honey color, pretty much no head, not much lacing. Decent amount of sedimentation floating around. Not much carbonation.

S- Honey, some floral notes, some spices, herbs, and a little bit of tea. Average aroma strength.

T- Honey, a tad bit grainy, lightly sweet, some light herbal notes, light sweet honey aftertaste.

M- Fairly light, crisp, goes down smooth.

O- This was an interesting beer, that definitely fit in well with the summer pack. This is definitely a beer I picture people drinking during the summer. Like most Magic Hat brews, this had an interesting concept and taste but nothing about it really stood out. I enjoyed drinking it, but probably not something I'd drink all the time. I like how they are pretty experimental though, not many beers that I know of are brewed with dandelions. I'm not sure what dandelions taste like, but you can definitely sense a lot of floral/herbal presence in this beer. Recommended trying it in a 12-pack.

A: Slightly hazy but transparent yellow with a nice white head and some lacing.

S: slightly saison like, grassy, hints of lemon, pilsner / gently malted grain aroma.

T: Starts off slightly grassy with hay and a bit of a saison like flavor from the dandelions. Continues with the graham cracker Magic Hat house yeast and a biscuit y presence. Finishes tannic and dandelion like.

M: Light crisp and high carbonation levels. Just about right for what I would think a saison carb level should be. Overall pretty good M for an herbed/spiced beer.

O: Not a bad beer, worth trying, not the best from the mixed 12 pack.

This poured out as a bright yellow color with a lot of floating particles in it, the head was foamy and white on top. the smell of the beer was floral and sweet. The taste of the beer gives off a big sweetness in the beginning that fades into a gentle bitter finish. The mouthfeel of the beer is light bodied and very drinkable, it's got a decent carbonation to it. Overall I thought this beer was a lot better than I pictured it being. I would probably drink this one again some day.

Pours a slightly hazy straw color with a short wispy white head that settled into a light ring.

The aroma has a light grapefruit hop scent. There is some grassy hop notes as well. There seems to be a general fruitiness to the aroma.

Nice light grapefruit hop aroma with some grassy bitterness. This could be from the hops or perhaps the dandelions. Again, a bit of a general fruitiness (floral?) to the brew. The malt is light and dry; some cracker notes.

The feel is light and very carbonation. Quite fizzy and burpy. Very easy to drink.

A nice light APA/IPA. Good hop flavor, not strong, but tastey. The dandelions don't do much. Good summer brew.

Pours a pale, slightly murky golden yellow with a thick foamy bright white head. Smells of grassy hops, some herbal and flowery aromas and a hint of citrus. Mostly lemon and grassy hop tones some grain in the aftertaste and a slightly bitter finish. It has a medium body but still light enough to be refreshing, lots of carbonation and a dry finish. This is one of the better beers that I've tried from Magic Hat, quite session-able.

Thick, lumpy head that leaves some chunky lace. Settles to a single layer of bubbles and leaves less lace toward the bottom of the glass. Cloudy with a dark gold/light amber color.

Crisp, fresh malt aroma with hop in the background as a spice. Pleasant if slightly fruity.

Far drier than the smell indicates. There's still some fruitiness as if dried apricots were added to the bright tank. The finish features mild bitterness. Neutral body and carbonation.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Pistil: Give it a shot!

A: Only a few millimeters of bubbly white head present on pour, atop a light, straw yellow body. Loads of debris visible in suspension. Looks like a yellow snowstorm.

Love the bottle art.

S: Light and lemony/floral.

T: Well, the dandelion is there right away in the form of a breezy, floral flavor, along with a faintly earthy/musky taste I've come to associate with Magic Hat and barns. And I swear, a faint, sort of pickled flavor on the aftertaste.

M: A little frothy. Surprisingly thick for such a bright brew, even somewhat on the oily side.

O: Like the kid who used to eat worms, Magic Hat once again promises something weird and delivers it. Only it's not quite as awesome as you think. A fun diversion for this year, and worth trying just to say that, yes, you've had a beer brewed with dandelions, but nothing much more than that.

Incidentally dandelions are highly underrated. I kick the little bastards whenever I see them because A: It's fun making them explode, B: it irritates other people and C: It makes more dandelions, causing A and B to repeat.

Pours a nice cloudy golden color, with a white head and nice tight bubbles.

There is some hint of dandelion in the nose along with spice and a grassy yeast smell, very pleasant like summer.

Yeasty malt mouth up front, with bitter dandelion coming in the middle, finishes with grainy oat notes. Has real nice balance to it - a sharp almost citrus bight balanced by a nice malty punch. This is by know means great, but it is surprisingly good. Goes down real well after mowing the grass.
