Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Amber color with about two fingers of off white head. Plenty of carbonation and medium lacing on the glass.

Smell: Grassy and some cloves.

Mouthfeel/Taste: A little rough, medium bodied. Taste was very bitter all around.

Overall: Not what I expected and I probably would not buy again. But the beer looks great, just doesn't have a good flavor in my opinion.

750ml corked, caged and foiled black bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a slightly hazy light copper orange with a 1.5 finger dense white head. Hardly any visible carbonation in the body. Leaves some lacing after I take a sip.

S: Smells like a light malty brew with but with a serious increase of all ingredients. Strong wheat characteristics as well as a decent yeastiness. Hints of booze in the backend.

T: Upon sipping the flavors are a strong wheat backbone with hints of banana and other fruitiness. Still a decent hop backing gives it a bitterness mid sip. A little alcohol kicks in at the end. Lingers with a sweet wheat malt.

M: Medium body much lighter than I had anticipated. Carbonation is fairly low on the tounge. Pretty clean feeling considering the abv. Isnt sticky or too hot.

Overall it is good to see Magic Hat amp up their beers a little bit and try something different. A style I wish more brewers would take a stab at.

a: This pours into a murky copper color. Very cool development of a head...almost a super slow fizz which develops into a nice head. A cool head to demonstrate the fingers that develop in a beer with a high abv.

s: The smell is a faint one however you certainly get some of the tastes within. It has a dry aroma that also gives up some light citrus notes. Alcohol is also present.

t: Bitterness is present however matched well with the presence of alcohol and wheatness. There is some tang to it - some nice light citrus and sweetness notes.

m: Oily mouthfeel is enjoyable. Low carbonation allows the flavors to shine.

o: I tasted this beer around noon and I did not really care for it. The flavors were too complex for a fresh mouth. I later had one at 9pm after a full day of work and dinner. I think that this beer is best as an evening drink, not a day drinking beer for sure. After two 9oz glasses I was definitely feeling great about myself - be careful of the high abv.

Huge creamy fluffy head 2 fingers fades slowly with nice lacing, semi hazy reddish orange color.

Nose strong beer, some estery booze, sweet malts, caramel, candi sugar, little phenolic, some wheat aromas but barely, chewy nougat like, also fairly fruity with a pear plum kinda aroma.

Taste starts pretty sweet, lots of candy flavours, candi sugar, caramel, toffee, little nutty. Booze kicks in, plenty of fruity esters, little phenolic, mostly just warming booze. Some creamy wheat, light candied banana like somehow, more pear plum like fruit. Some bitterness, a light spicy chewy hop. Finish is fairly spicy hop bitterness, little sweet still, but more fruit, plenty of toffee and caramel candies lingering.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, light warming booze, decent carb.

Overall decent. For this to come from the crappy version of Magic Hat is surprising. Overall too sweet, but flavor and aroma profiles were not bad. Decent light hops, more esters and phenols than I'd expect for a Wheatwine and not a Belgian strong or something, but not bad.

750 ml bottle into snifter, late 2012 bottling. Pours slightly hazy pale orange amber color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, honey, wheat, light caramel, floral, grass, toast, pepper, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness; with a light phenolic note. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and ester notes; with good strength. Taste of orange zest, lemon zest, peach, pear, apple, pineapple, honey, wheat, pepper, floral, grass, light caramel, toast, clove, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus zest, peach, pear, pineapple, apple, honey, wheat, floral, grass, pepper, toast, clove, light nuttiness, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and ester notes; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice wheatwine style. Good balance of hop, malt, and ester flavors; and quite smooth to sip on for the gravity. A nicely enjoyable offering.
