12oz bottle poured into a glass.
it has a dark reddish color body with a thin tan head. The sitell has a roasted malt aroma to it. The taste is malt forward with roasty taste. Also has a slight hop character to it. the mouthfeel is smooth and overall is a average red ale.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.
Look: Deep chestnut hue, thin lacing
Smell: Toasted grain, faint cocoa powder, mildly figgy, faint hop spice
Taste: Big smoothness, ample carbonation, wet, bread crust, very mild hop flavor, balancing bitterness, watery burnt coffee note, drying finish
Not even sure what this beer is really going for, simply a malt forward Red Ale with not much else going for it ... drinkable but not noteworthy.

Served on tap in a sample glass.
Appearance: Darker reddish brown with a beige head. Thick lacing on the glass.
Smell: Nutty with hops and malts.
Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Nutty malty taste to it.
Overall: Ok brew, not my first choice, but I am also not a huge fan of Red Ales.

An amber red ale with a very English ale taste. This one is certainly more hoppier than what you would see in traditional English ales. You get some smokiness due to the carmel malts. A nice session beer that suits the fall season and would buy again...

DATE TASTED: November 14, 2013... GLASSWARE: Howard's Pub pint... OCCASION: Game of Thrones reading Thursday--chapters in the Vale... APPEARANCE: dark ruby red/black velvet body--another sinister-looking attempt from this mixpack; off-color lunar craters of head that holds thickness; laces well... AROMA: for Magic Hat, surprisingly straight-forward in its malty aroma; roasted toffee and some astringent chemical brine (the glass?)...PALATE: low to medium-bodied with little activity in the mouth; a bit creamy, but not lactic...TASTE: flattened maltiness with a lingering aftertaste; elusive hops make this a thin, drinkable profile; sessionable with a buttery finish...OVERALL: undoubtedly, this most straight-forward Magic hat I've had--nearly everything from these guys has an odd twist or turn to tis profile, but this delivers a true ESB approximation; a bit thin overall, but serviceable...

Appearance: Very red with ok lacing. I like the color a lot.
Smell: Sour cherries. Too vinegary, but it's somehow refreshing.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Starts with refreshing sour raspberries but becomes way too sour in the finish. Mouthfeel is very crisp.
Overall: Excellent body and color, but the rest is just ok.

A robust take on the amber ale style. Hiding just beyond its malty core is a crisp, clean, hoppy aura that will open your eyes to the other side. Definitely not what you would expect from ah Amber ale with its bold malt character. It is worth a try and can be found in the new variety pack "Night of the Living Dead" by Magic Hat. I live in Western Massachusetts and purchsaed it at the Liquors 44 on route 9.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on September 3, 2013
The pour is mahogany amber with a long -lasting off-white foamy head that leaves some decent lacing.
The aroma tends to be on the sweet and nutty side with caramel notes and a mild crisp hoppiness to balance things off. Also a bit soapy in smell.
The body is medium but it rather creamy.
The taste is much like the aroma with an emphasis on the sweetness rather than amber bitterness one comes to expect from the style. Caramel malts and a mild hop finish but it's the sweetness that lingers.
