look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Pours a cloudy apricot color with a modest head that leaves a reasonable amount of lace behind

Smell: Fruity caramel aroma with just a hint of hops

Taste: Caramel up front with a piney hop aspect appearing by mid-palate; the finish is disappointing as the favors fade into a slightly watery mess

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: A decent IPA that might be better if the bottle were fresher; I sense there are better IPAs out there, however

Thanks goes out to NutBrown.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice small white head, nice sticky lacing afterwards. The nose is malty, slightly hoppy, some citrus and caramel. The taste is hoppy, malty, nice touch of citrus and caramel. The finish is dry. Medium body. Drinkable, to me this is a different IPA, but tasty.

This IPA poured a cloudy golden color from the bottle. Enough hops to make the drinker sit up and know that this is a quality IPA, but not overly bitter. Just the right amount to satisfy IPA lovers (like me) but not enough to turn away those who are unfamiliar with the IPA style. I wish that this beer was not a seasonal offering, as I would drink it year-round

Puors light golden color with light/white head. Wispy.

Fruit nose of C hops. Hop bittering is up front on the entry - I like that. Nice hop flavors - the malts are honey sweetness. Hop flavors of grapefruit. A granny smith apple flavor.

The bittering is constant in the beer - finishes a bit sweet. Not as aggressive as west coast IPA's, but not as malt forward as many east coast IPA's of english style.

The alcohol is well hidden if this is 6.8%

A cloudy gold liquid with a modest head that breaks into a spotty lace pretty quickly. The aroma is weak but you catch the hops pretty clearly with just a hint of disinfectant that haunts the back of my nose. The first taste again brings on the hops with a sort of grassy quality. It closes with the bitterness you often encounter with IPA's. I noted a loss in body as I waited on the final sips, sort of flat after sitting for 15 minutes through the tasting process. First taste was more impressive than the second half of this brew but not bad.

Pours a nice pale golden color with an aroma that is kind of dry yet citrusy. In the taste, hops are present yet very mild. I think this beer is a nice IPA, American yet kind of seeing its English roots. And me being a stoopid hippie, loving the namesake and artwork, enjoyed it, but it could have been just a bit more.

A: Poured into an American pint glass. Has a brown/golden color with a small white head.

S: This has a smell of faint hops and malts. The aroma isn't very strong.

T: Good malts start off and has a good hop flavor and I even pick up some corn? Very bland finish. I am disappointed with this beer I expected more.

D: Overall a sub par IPA and I am shocked at how low quality I found this to beer to be.

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- This beer has a clean apricot colored body with a rocky white head that last for a good bit. There are lots of strands of tiny bubbles that glide from the base of the glass to support the head.

S- The smell of dried apricots and citrus sweet notes come through in the green hops to give it an interesting quality.

T- This beer has a dry apricot note with a light toast and pale malt flavor. As the beer warms there is notes of light biscuit and a hint of field corn in the background. There is a soft bitter pungency from hops that hangs on after the finish. There is a soft but nice green hop flavor that comes through before the bitterness but it quickly covered over.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a light creamy note that is almost buttery in texture. The creamy texture only last as long as the head, which is about 1/2 of the glass.

D- This beer has some nice flavors but the hops were not the main player. They were interesting and I would have liked to taste more of them in an IPA.

Freshness date of June, '07:

Pours slightly hazed golden with a thin bubbly head that descends to a thin patch.

The smell is citric - grapefruit, lemon, orange with some pine. Grainy background.

The taste is mainly of grapefruit with other citric fruits mixed in. A touch of pine. A firm malt backing gives it balance, though it remains bitter. Dry finish.

Medium-bodied. Lingering citrus.

A fine IPA. Hops come through, yet it's balanced for the style.

Appears a copper semi clouded tone with a large off white orange tineted head leaves fine even lacing all around my pint glass with each sip. Aromatics contain floral citrus hops all about for Wintersville OH this is top notch damn I'm happy to see this one at the Kroger. Among the great hop nose is some honey sweet caramel biscuit malt presence to round out the green herbaceous smelling hops. Flavor contains a gliding wave of hop bitterness it's so addicting leafy, citrus, and floral aspects dive onto the palate with enough of the malt sweetness coming out some bready and biscuity with a fruity sweentess rounds out the bittering and flavor hop bite this great standard American IPA has to offer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with oily hops streaking across the palate with each sip moderate natural carbonatino and a little added body from some bottle conditioning. Drinkability all around great drinking beer I can't get enough of a solid IPA and this one beside Commodore Perry IPA from Great Lakes I may have to grab this one really adds some respect to Magic Hat that I was beginning to lose faith in.

Pours a light honey with a beautiful white head that has levels of plateaus and some sheets of lacing along the sides of my imperial pint. The hops are big in the nose: grassy and herbal, but there is an awful aspect of burnt tire rubber. This doesn't do it for me. Overbearing medicinal sweetness coupled with hops that are big on alpha acids and low on good flavor. The burnt tire thing comes out even bigger in the flavor and the rest of the hop flavor characteristics taste muddy. Mouthfeel is kind of syrupy and inching towards being absolutely flat. I'm definitely not a fan, but I won't drain pour this either.

12oz bottle with June freshness date. Pours a light-medium straw with some carbonation that fades quickly. Aroma has some hops, but not much. The flavour follows a similar profile. There are some nice hops in the taste, but they don't linger throughout the entire taste. The beer actually feels somewhat flat - and that's rarely a complaint from me as I am a fan of cask ales. This one just feels like it's a bit off.

Appearance is a transparent light amber - light head but lacing lasts throughout.
Aroma - heavy on the citrus - grapefruit stands out. Malt and hop presence.
Taste - grapefruit typical of an American IPA - a little metallic. Actually -dissappointing after the pleasant aroma.
Mouthfeel - a little watery for an IPA
Overall not a bad beer, but not a superior IPA at all.

A-Golden yellow to light brown with a slight chill haze. 3/4 inch head decent retention and very good lace
S-Tropical fruit, earthy green hops, carmel and biscuit malts
T-Nice carmel and biscuit malt, earthy hops come in after malt opening. tropical fruit also in the middle.

M-Quit fizzy with a light body

D-I could definitely have a few may even a session.

Overall, not a bad beer but there are better choices for me.

Pours to a hazy reddish orange with medium off-white head that lingers well and leaves okay lacing. Very pleasant hoppy citrus (grapefruit) aroma, blended with floral overtones. Mouthfeel is tingly, and the flavor is a mixture of the grapefruit bitterness, with a hint of malty sweetness. All led to a long, bittersweet finish.

This is the third Magic Hat I’ve tried, and while the other two have been somewhat disappointing, this delivered as expected.

Pours a rusty gold with a very slight haze. Two and-a-half finger head of pale biege dense foam shows good retention and leaves sticky whisps of lace. Piney hop nose with grapefruit in the background and faint citrus; a faint pale malt and pilsener malt aroma is also detectable. Pale two-row and Pils upfront, followed by a mellow caramel taste. Mango-lemon flavor hits in the middle, with a resinous pine hop flavor barely penetrating. Firm but not harsh bitterness commands the semi-dry aftertaste, with pine and citric hop notes lingering and a hint of dextrin. The excellent balance achieved exemplifies the model of the IPA style; one of strength and complexity that retains a delicate play between aggressive hops and rich malt. Medium in body with a light-medium mouthfeel, it has a moderate residual sugar to offset the stubborn hop character without becoming cloying or allowing the hops to become abrasive. Finish is bold but fleeting, and the palate is left yearning another sip. A terrific IPA that may seem modest to the true hophead, but is best suited to wow the session ale crowd.

Pours a nice deep hazy amber color with a little bit of head that is attempting to leave lace. The aroma is of citrusy pine and some pear in there. Maybe a little banana. The malt brings up the rear. The aromas transfer to the flavor with that odd banana flavor the keeps bouncing around. The hop flavor takes the front spot and has tons of piney notes to dominate it. There is little to be desired in the malt flavor. It doesn't seem to have the presences enough to balance it out. Alright that taste after it has now warmed up for ten minutes had a hint of peanut butter in it. very odd. The malt is now starting to peek its weary little head out. So case in point let it warm up. The mouth feel is a medium body and very little bitterness to it. Smooth with sharp carbonation. Overall a very drinkable beer. But for me I don't see the balance that it should have .

Pours a light pale color with a decent head. Smell is strong and hoppy with some hints of floral and citrus. Hops could be Cascade as well. Taste is strong at first with a piney essence melded with touches of citrus and the hops. Taste falls a bit flat possibly due to the age of the bottles and the fact that hiPA is no longer being produced at the brewery. Still a very worthy IPA that I would not mind reviewing again once it is available fresh again.

12 oz. bottle. Drink by the end of July according to the label. Pours a clear golden color, with some amber hues. A few bubbles stream from the bottom of the glass. Thick foamy head holds together fairly well. Some nice patches of lace are left clinging to the glass.

Piney and citrusy hops in the nose, and slightly grainy as well.

Bready malt, with some citrusy flavors, even some peach. A bit perfumey. Good amount of lingering bitterness, but still well balanced. Lots of fruity flavors.

Good body and carbonation. Easy to drink. This seems to be one of Magic Hat's better offerings that I have had.

Pours a deep golden color with a nice white head with some lacing. Aroma is very nice citrus, but a little light for what I have come to expect from American IPAs. There is a slightly grassy flavor underlying the malt, with some citrus notes. I did not find piney flavors or aromas as with some American IPAs. I think of Great Divide Titan IPA when I think of "piney". This beer leans more to the malty than hoppy for the style. As an APA this would be fantastic, as an IPA it is somewhat lacking. But I won’t hold the style against it as it is a very solid beer. The aroma and flavor are very balanced and it is very enjoyable.

Lovely stuff!!

I've been on a mission to find the tastiest, most satisfying brew in my region (North east) and this, do far, is the best. Very full of flavor. Citrusy & crisp, with a nice bold dlavor. Most other IPA's I've tried are only bitter.

Great hoppy bite with a very nice body. Perfect balance in my opinion. Just right.

Pours a hazy medium gold color with a solid half inch head that leaves sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma was a hop lover's dream, like having a handful of fresh hops stuffed in your face. Lots of leafy, piney aromas along with a good bit of citrus. Taste was decent. Quite bitter and hoppy, grapefruity and slightly malty. But, I also detected an unpleasant medicinal, artficial type flavor that detracted from the taste. Mouthfeel was medium bodied. Drinkability was average due to that strange aftertaste, which only got worse as the beer warmed. Could I have gotten a bad sixer?

12 oz bottle poured in a pint glass...

A - clear light orange/yellow with a sticky white head, leaving plenty of lacing.

S - pine tar aroma, sweet smell of Spring.

T - good hoppy taste, sour candy sweetness, abv well hidden.

M - light/medium bodied, light carbonation, nice finish.

D - has very good drinkability, price is reasonable. Good value and good example of the style.

12oz, dated 1/07, some hippie chick with flowers in her hair on the lable. Pours a hazy pale orange color. The 1-finger white head grows rather frothy and creamy, leaving strands of small-bubbled lace strung arond the rim.

The nose is citrus dominated, orange and lemon, very hoppy, but more floral than herbacious. The flavor is dominated by orange and lemon, and somewhat biting, plastic, and slightly soapy--citrus tinged hops on the finish are followed just a peep of alcohol on the ass end.

It's medium bodied, with decent complexity. Very drinkable. Seems pretty much in balance. Yet, doesn't really do any tricks that allow it to stand out from the other ponies.

12 oz. Bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Hazy soft orange in color with copper hues. Dense white head pours one finger thick and breaks down almost immediately into a micro bubble blanket that covers the top of the sampling. Thin sticky lacing clings to the glass.

S: Floral hops. Rich caramel malts. Fresh bread.

T: Raw, wet citrus and floral hops dominate the front end of this brew and give off a medicinal bitter bite. Thick and dark caramel malts try to lend balance but are overtaken by more hops. Hints of grapefruit, apricot and peach flavors come through and are followed by a fresh dough like finish.

M: Crisp and slightly slick. Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry.

D: An OK example of the style. Lacks balance and overall mouth watering flavor. The best of the bunch that I have sampled from MH.
