Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a plastic pint, the beer is a dark, ruby-red color with a frothy, clingy, light tan head. Nose of biscuit, toffee sweetness, and subtle hops bitterness. Flavors are sweet and roasty forward, with caramel and toffee blending, and a peppery hops character at the end. Smooth, mid-bodied with a roasty sweet aftertaste. Slightly cloying, sweet lingering finish. Easy to drink.

Consumed 6/8/13

Appearance: Darker than the label "red" would imply - about as dark as amber can get, somewhere between garnet and brown - lightly hazy - pours with a big, beige head - keeps a little cap, leaves some nice lacing

Smell: Toasty, caramel malts - grainy, yet very clean - nicely cooked and toasted, with some hints of dark bread, caramel, and toffee - some hints of piney, lightly grassy hops, but I was hoping for a greater hop presence

Taste: Matches the aroma (in a good way) - caramel malts in abundance - nicely toasted, even a little bit roasted - grainy, with some caramel and some toffee - nicely sweet, minimal bitterness - some pine and earthy hops

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, very smooth, very drinkable

Overall: A solid amber ale

This is my last bottle from Cape Cod Beer, and I'm glad I saved it for last, as it's one of the best from their lineup. I wish it were a bit hoppier, but it's good for what it is. It's a very good amber.

Had this on tap at Spanky's in Hyannis, Cape Cod just down the street from the brewery.

As amber ales go, this is close to the best I've had. I'll admit that I don't typically seek out ambers and have only tried about 10 different kinds.

It was smooth and mellow. A well-balanced amber ale with caramel and toffee malt notes and a subtle spicy hop character. The flagship of Cape Cod Beer, this beer won’t steer you wrong! ”

I had this a Mahoneys in Orleans Ma on tap. It was quite tasty. I will look for it in bottle form and see if it is the same.

A - Reddish

S - Was nice, didn't really spend time on this.

T - Quite good.

M - Gives you something.

Overall - A pleasant surprise. I will seek this out in CT.
