Poured a glassy caramel-brown with ruby tinting, and a short-lived head.
Aroma is musty chocolate and caramel. Even dark fruits get in, but just barely.
Flavors favor chocolate, with a little overripe plum and juicy dark raisin. Flavors are not at all robust, disappearing quickly, with the slightly watery body not helping.
Definitely not extraordinary, a bit plain and not as much "oomph" as you want in a schwarz beer. Yet it's likeable enough, and there are some decent selling points. I've never seen it outside the Odenwalder variety pack, so I wouldn't buy that pack again and get stuck with 4 of their very average Pilsners, but I might buy this again if it were sold separately.

Aroma is rich, oily and yeasty with a firm overtone of fine roast coffee. It pours a nice, dark, nearly opaque chocolaty brown. Flavor is malty with coffee and chocolate undertones, as well as hints of molasses and smoke. Texture is smooth and fizzy, just a teeny bit watery. Recommended.

Meh.
Pours more amber than cola/black to my eyes, with a nice, robust head that unfortunately disappears a might quickly, and leaves little lacing. Still, it looks like I want to drink it.
Smells appropriately malty with just a hint of roast. But a little mild.
Taste is a might on the sweet side, although the finish is clean. Malts are not terribly complex, and body and carbonation seem ok, perhaps a bit grainy.
Underwhelmed, but no serious complaints. Would drink, but not seek out again.

Appearance:
This beer is surprisingly beautiful. It's amber hued dark brown in color with a thick and creamy off white head. There's some great retention to the head but there isn't much lacing going on.
Smell:
Not much going on here except for some weak roasted malt character.
Taste and Mouthfeel:
The beer is medium in body with light carbonation up front. There's some grassy hop character initially but this flavor is quickly replaced with depleted dark malt character, a flavor kind of like chocolate syrup in a glass of water. The flavor is almost that of a vienna lager but again a little lacking in oomph. The finish is a little grassy and it carries in to the aftertaste.
Drinkability:
This really should have all the drinkability of a lager with the flavor of a porter but it's a little bit the opposite. The flavors are unrefined and linger in to the aftertaste which makes for a beer that isn't quite refreshing or overly tasty.
Bottom Line:
Another mediocre beer from Odenwalder. I can say one thing though, this is the best mixed 12 pack you can get at ALDI which is pretty awesome because the also have Pringles for 89 cents.

Deep, dark maroon color, almost brown. Strong, bright white head (I'm somewhat surprised given the color of the beer itself just how stark white the head is). Smell is hoppy, with a hint of alcohol and astringency. The taste is very similar, with hints of caramel showing through the hops. Mouthfeel is very crisp and light, almost like a clear soda. Drinkability is ok, the flavor is somewhat mild and the beer goes down relatively smooth. Not my favorite beer, but I won't hesitate to finish those I have left over.

A: Nice cola like brownish-black color. Head of tan-white foam dissipated very quickly.
S: Notes of roasted nuts and chocolate malts. Some caramel notes. Not bad.
T: Very mild. Sweet maltiness and dark toffee notes give way to a creamy yet light note of cocoa.
M: Light and creamy. Nice. Easy carbonation adds to the pleasure.
D: Easy drinkin' brew. Nothing amazing, but a good beer for working on turning crap lovers into craft lovers.
Notes: Slightly lackluster, but do-able. Is this German Macro beer? If it is, it's still a step up from the BMC we have state-side.

This product from Odenwalder is very nice and I was lucky enough to stumble upon it.
Arrived a dark amber with a tan head of a full finger. The carbonation very active, the body a medium+.
The aroma has a nice roasted quality, cocoa and toffee as well.
The taste is balanced well, starting lightly to the hops and ending to the malts in a smokey molasses.
Very easy to quaff
Recomended.

Odenwalder Schwarz Beer pours a very dark reddish black from a 12oz dark brown glass bottle with a pry off cap. A rocky head went to over three fingers, then settled down to a full ring of foam, lots of lace, and meany islands of fine foam.
Nose is a mixture of sweet dark toasted barley malt and light alcohol notes.
Palate is a most delighting sweet dark roasted barley malt that could pass for a really good dry stout.
Odenwalder Schwarz Beer can be found a Aldis in a Variety 12 pack of Schwarz Beer, Meister Pilsner, and Golden Lager. I have found that the combined conservative price of $9.99 for four each of the brews was outstanding.

Clear, dull red-brown in hue with an influence of tan
like most Schwarzbiers the liquid is in fact, not black. Beige head, at the apex the foam was two-fingers in height, the bubbles quickly subsided to a thin cap. Thankfully this smaller head had better staying power before turning soapy. There was no subsequent lacing. This beer looks better then average but its far from groundbreaking.
The nose is toffee with a roasted underbelly that is somewhat similar to diluted coffee spiked with chocolate and caramel. There is moderate potency from start to finish. The bouquet doesnt have many hidden subtleties, it is straightforward and pleasant. It doesnt make me say wow but, at least, the nose does say Schwarzbier and not Euro Dark Lager or something worse!
The palate is fair. I taste some toffee and some chocolate and caramel with a minimal roasted influence. That is about all the palate has to offer. This is not a great Schwarzbier but that is okay. I got what I paid for and then some. Empty finish, it is fairly clean with just a trace of muddled sweetness. Overall, this beer is decent there just isnt a lot here to work with.
Medium/medium-light in body, low carbonation, there isnt much noteworthy about the mouthfeel. It is on the thin-side and the boring-side but it functions well enough.
This beer is drinkable because it is simple. It has the qualities I want in the style but it offers nothing more. Session beer material I might have to buy another sampler-pack from Aldi, I mean, hell it was only $10. For the price it is worthy of a try. It would be a good, cheap cross-over beer or something to bring to a party with BMC drinkers. All in all, it isnt bad tasty in fact.

The beer poured into the glass crystal clear dark amber brown with a tan and frothy head that rose tall and moussy and required the beer to be poured in batches to fill the glass. The head coated the glass.
The aroma was malty with a nice caramel aspect and a low chocolate till the head dropped. The chocolate aroma was slightly earthy and had a light coffee aspect.
The flavor was chocolate with a light caramel and a bit of coffee. The flavor was slightly earthy and also just ever so slightly smoky.
The finish was dry with a light and lasting bittering and a low coffee/chocolate into the afteraste with that same slightly smoky flavor. The body was medium. I may have consumed this one just a bit too warm, a re-review with a colder bottle may be in order.
12 ounce bottle. Best by 07 14 06. Part of a mixed 12 pack at Aldi for $10.

Picked up as part of a mixed 12 pack at Aldi for $9.99. Pours a dark reddish cola brown with a thin tan head. The sweet smell of malt dominates with just a hint of noble hops in the background. Taste is smooth and sweet with hints of roasted grains, coffee, and chocolate. Not a bad brew. Looking forward to trying the other two styles in the 12 pack.
