Stopped here with the wifey on the way home from one of those huge damn Detroit malls. This was in late summer 2005, but was a memorable enough experience to warrant a beerfly review.
I was really excited about this place, as I'd read the Michigan Beer Guide article about it in the spring, and the new brewer seemed enthusiastic, plus all Belgian style beers? Hell yeah! I started with a sampler and the waitress brought out for beers and described them as Stella pilsner, Liberty pale ale, a dubbel and Celis wit. I thought, that's strange, but maybe she's just naming common examples of their current styles, and it made sense, because there really aren't any common dubbels out there. Anyway, I started in on the sampler, and thought OK, boring pils, wit is pretty good and drinkable, dubbel, nice and malty. I ended with the pale ale and thought "damn, this place is making a very nice pale." But then I grew suspicious and went up to the bar, and sure enough, Stella, Anchor Liberty and Celis all on tap. Which meant that they only had one of their actual beers.
That said, their dubbel was fantastic! The food was very nice as well. This is a great place for dinner, and I am excited to try their other beers, but I'll have to call ahead to make sure they are actually on tap.
