Earl of Brixom is an English Dark Mild Ale with a rich brown color and a mocha laced aroma. The overall body is lighter than it appears, yet robust flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel are prevalent. This beer is filled with flavor, but not overly sweet. The finish is pleasantly clean with a slight, black-coffee-like bitterness.

12oz pour in a snifter glass. On tap (cask) at Ollie's Place in Centerville, OH.
Appearance: Very dark brown, but clear, with an initial 1/4" light tan head. Some lacing noted that slid back down the glass to rejoin the main foam that died back a bit over time.
Smell: Brown bread mostly. There is a hint of leafy hops, but it is faint.
Taste: Bready, toasted malt, a hint of chocolate, some woodiness. Light bitter finish with some mineral notes to it.
Mouthfeel: Very light carbonation as one would expect from a cask pour. Smooth and having some thickness, but on the lighter side of thickness.
Overall / Drinkability: An easily drinkable mild as one would expect per style. Good by itself but I think this would pair very nicely with a variety of hearty dishes. Not an amazing beer, but certainly tasty and good per the style.

A: Pours a clear, almost opaque very dark cola brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint mahogany highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of roasted, toasted, chocolate, and biscuit malts with a hint of caramel sweetness. There are also moderate aromas of lightly roasted coffee and just a touch of nuttiness.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted, toasted, biscuit, and chocolate malts with a light amount of caramel + chocolate sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of fresh light roast coffee and nuttiness. Hints of earthy hops in the finish which contribute a very light amount of bitterness which does not linger.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: Very well balanced with well hidden alcohol, making this one quite sessionable. Really nice complexity to the flavor and aroma of this beer make this one quite enjoyable. Definitely one that I would grab again.

On tap at Church Key during Savior Week. Poured into a small snifter.
I love English Milds, but this beer was disappointing. Maybe because it was not on cask? 3.75

S - Malty, way nutty, honey and other sweetness. 4
T - Low hops, wheat bread. 3.75

Clear brown with orange highlights. Ample carbonation but head reduced to a thin layer leaving minimal lacing.
Slight burned sugar aroma with a faint floral character.
Very caramelized flavor with no sweetness, somewhat of a harsh finish.
Finish is tacky and leaves a residue. The carbonation is coarse and not complimentary.
Possibly drank too cold.

Pours mahogany with two fingers off white head, settles to a solid cap. Spotty lacing. Aroma of dark, rich bread and raisins, figs, and plums.
Earthy, subtly peppery hops, roasted malts, bread and dark fruit on the palate. Thin feel, smooth. More than happy to welcome the Earl back again after its extended absence

We recently began getting distro of Short's B.C. beers here in south-central PA & I am pretty excited about it! I have known those guys for years, between BA fests in BOS & my (usually) annual excursion to Madison, WI for the GTMW. I don't care if they are in bottles since I never expected them to come to me!
From the bottle: "Handmade by people who care. (tm)"
I Pop!ped the cap and really let fly on the pour since this was a VERY fresh bottle. This resulted in two-plus fingers of dense, deep-tan/light-brown head with good retention. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & garnet highlights. Just beautiful! Nose was a lightly sweet chocolate along with a slight toasted breadiness and a nuttiness. Mouthfeel was thin to medium. The taste was chocolaty with a light biscuit maltiness and a slight earthiness from the hops. Finish was semi-dry and lingering with a light chocolate/peanut butter flavor. The low ABV made it easily drinkable & I would hand it to anyone that I overhear saying that they do not like dark beers.

This came in a limited edition variety pack. With the current IPA mania in the country its good to find styles like this being made and made well.
Getting some wood on the nose followed by faint vanilla. This tastes like some of the best English Dark Mild Ales one can get in the North of England. Siping this its easy to imagine a couple of hundred year old pub in an english village where the locals go to drink and dine. The flavors are a complex for a sub 4 pct beer. I am getting some roasted malts followed by a hint of cold earl gray followed by some bittering hops. The hops are mild on this. The flavors are dominated with roasted malts, vanilla, tea and some wood. The mouthfeel is solid for a beer this low in abv. I think I will have a steak and kidney pie after this thank you!
Shorts continually puts out some solid brews and this is no exception. English Dark Mild Ale for the win. Earl of Brixom for the win.
