I picked up a bottle of Short's Twisted Cain a couple weeks ago for $1.89 at The Lager Mill. I'm interested to try this one and see how it compares to Twist of Cain, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a snifter.

A- The label looks good, it's got a nice design to it and it's pretty eye catching. It poured a nice dark brown color that didn't really let any light come through and it had one fingers worth of tan bubbly head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the roasted malts being the first to show up and they impart some nice roasted, slightly charred, light chocolate and coffee like aromas with just a little bit of nutty aroma showing up in the background. Up next comes a little bit of creamy aroma with more of those nutty and roasted malt aspect showing up towards the end. This beer has a good aroma, I have no complaints.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the roasted malts still being the first to show up they impart the same roasted aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time not as much coffee comes through. Up next comes the nutty aspect which shows up just like it did in the aroma with a little bit of creaminess in the background. On the finish there's a little bit of a candied sugar flavor with hardly any bitterness with some sweetness, nuttyness and roasted malts in the aftertaste. This is a good tasting beer, all the flavors worked well together.

M- Smooth, crisp, a little creamy, on the thicker side of being medium bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with it.

Overall I thought this was a good beer and a good example of the style, it had all the aspects that I was looking for and they all worked well together. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple without getting bored of it. What I like the most about this beer is the balance, no aspect is too overpowering. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, there isn't anything that sticks out as needing some worl. I would buy this beer again and I would recommend it to anyone who likes this type of beer. Good job guys this was a tasty beer, keep it up.

Such a unique beer. Had at Shorts 11yr party in Bellaire on draft.

Think earl grey tea mixed with a very light burnt malty brown ale flavor. Such a fun beer. Awesome !

Pours a dark red with little to no head or lacing. Aromas of peanut butter and not much else. Taste follows the nose with a very creamy peanut butter like flavor and perhaps some vanilla as well. Mouthfeel is light, creamy, with low carbonation.

Really unique and true to Shorts philosophy. I get the idea of trying to incorporate the tea and milk aspect into the beer. I definitely get the sweetness from the lactose but the spices from the tea and malts from the brown ale base weren't there. Fun to try nevertheless.

Cheers!

Had this on-tap at HopCat Detroit's grand opening.

Brown ale? Is it? I probably remember this beer the least out of the beers I had at HopCat's opening... seeing it was brewed with Earl Grey tea (my personal favorite tea), I was hoping it would taste good, and it really does. Really clean and easy drinking beer that, to me, does taste like Earl Grey... in beer form. There's almost a slight tartness to it or something, but I may have imagined that, unless they put some actual fruit into the beer. Short's should really bottle this stuff at least once.
