Notes/Commercial Description:
Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

Received in trade from jbck109 thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a deep golden/copper color with a finely bubbled white head that dissipates quickly to only a ring around the top of the glass. Smells like hops, yeah really. Grapefruit and sour orange are prevalent in the aroma backed up by fleeting hints of biscuit and caramel. Taste is resinous, citrus, with some biscuit malt found deep underneath. Every sip I take adds to the resinous and citrus onslaught besieging my palette. Resinous mouthfeel, medium to full body, light level of carbonation. This is definitely a beer to help get your hop fix on. I enjoyed this although at times I did feel it bracingly bitter.

Pale golden straw color. Hazy but translucent. Nice big head at first that fades into a lace.

Floral hops very herbal smell.

More floral piny tastes with a nice hop bite. Spicy crisp finish. Not picking up much of the malts.

Nice amount of carbonation very smooth and refreshing IPA to go with the highly floral tastes.

On-tap at the HopCat in Grand Rapids.

Slighty hazy orange-tinged copper, with a one finger head that sticks around for a long time. The lase is nice and sticky as you would expect from a good IPA.

Smell; initially citrus dominates with grapefruit and a little lemon zest. After this warms a bit the hops become a little more floral and earthy, with a little pine and hay.

Taste; spicy earthy hops, with some pine, dried grass, almost tea like. Grapefruit and lemon add a nice citrus flavor, and then a little sweet caramel malts creep through for a second before being overcome by the hops.

Mouthfeel/drinkability; mouthfeel is medium bodied, and oily due to the hops. Drinkability is good. The beer is pretty drying on the palate, to the point that it may become a bit hard to drink more than one. Good thing there were so many good beers to choose from.

Had on-tap at HopCat in Grand Rapids, MI.

Poured an amber/copper color with a little bit of haze. Not much head to speak of, but it was consistent throughout leaving good lacing.

Smells of bitter hops, some citrus notes and pine. A good whiff left a slight burning sensation in the nostrils. This beers is about the hops.

Hop flavors come through as well with a bitter taste showing off the IBUs. Perhaps some of the alcohol is showing on this pour as well. Fairly dry in the mouth as well.

Overall, a very good IPA that focuses on the hop bitterness and does well doing so.
