Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

12oz bottle served into a Old Hickory Pint glass

A- It generates a nice foamy head the resides into a light lacing around the edge of the glass. The color is a translucent amber.

S- Due to the fact i have no idea how old this bottle is, it's sweet and malty. A fresh bottle ( if this isn't one ) would smell more crisp. In saying that, I get a lot of sweet malts and bitter hops. Not to much fresh aroma hops.

T- A nice balance unlike the smell. The bitter hops flavor and sweet malt meet perfectly. The acidic flavor of the hop and sweet tone of the malt complement one anther very nicely.

M- Just as an IPA should be. Drinkability is good and carbonation is moderate. It's good.

O- Maybe I had an older bottle but this seemed malty and bitter. I felt that the characteristics of an high quality hops was present but stale.

A generous extra from akorsak, thank you Adam-I've been wanting to try this for quite some time.

Pours an orange amber, good clarity-shines golden in the light with only a touch of murkiness. A one finger head recedes over a few minutes into a film. Only spotty lacing. Aroma is citric-big grapefruit, oranges, and tangerines with a touch of sweet caramel malt to carry it along, touches of floral scents and resiny pine. Not quite as big as I was hoping, but top-notch nonetheless.

Taste is IPA heaven, orange zest, juicy grapefruit, resiny pine, floral, with a touch of peppery spice-quite mild spice. The malt is sweet and present throughout, but the initial bitterness up front carries the flavor throughout and finishes moderately dry. Medium mouthfeel with light carbonation.

Insanely drinkable. Highly recommended.

12oz bottle, poured into a Dogfish Head signature glass.

managed to get two bottles, thanks to @craftbeercellar.

A: poured vigorously. 1 finger white head, minimal lacing. organgish/red, much deeper than it looked during the pour.

S: whooooah, hops. smells just like cracking open a foil pack of fresh hops while homebrewing! traces of malt, but that nose of hops runs the show. not a hop bomb, though -- just a really pleasing smell.

T: all hops up front, bitterness and a bite in the middle leaves your taste buds and salivary glands on alert through the finish. mix of hops, definitely American... not quite the usual "C" hops, though. the label claims complex malt, but i just taste the malt as a supporting structure for the hops. good balance for a hoppy IPA.

M: low carbonation, would have expected a tad more. malt gives the right amount of body to make this an IPA, not a hoppy PA.

D: definitely could only handle one of these in a session. palate is left a bit blitzed (not from bitterness, though).

overall: great beer. tastes just like opening that packet of hops on brew day... mmm...

Pours an amber-copper color. Has a thin, lacy head in brandy snifter. Some retention left in spots on the glass.

Has a hoppy and citrus aroma. Very pleasant and aromatic. Pine is also noticeable.

Huma has a delicious sweet and bitter taste. It has a tasty complexity to it. Huma has a strong hop presence. I taste pineapple, grapefruit, and orange. Black pepper gives it a certain spiciness.

Medium-bodied and decent carbonation. A great IPA that I have known for only a year now. A great beer from a great brewery.

Served at refrigerator temperature from a bottle into a goblet glass. The beer poured with a dark golden colour and very little head. The aroma is of cascade hops- distinct but not overpowering. The flavor is primarily of grapefruitty hops but there is a ever present malty flavor. This strong malt would be overpowering in any other brew but it required to match the strong hop flavor- and it does this job well. Unlike many other American IPAs, Short's does a good job here of making one that is actually drinkable. The flavor is not terribly complex (cascade hops and malt) but this is a solid brew with good flavor and mouthfeel. Recommended.

Spied a single sixer at the store and pounced! Beautiful orange color with nice head and lacing. Smelled of pine and citrus with a sharp tingle in the nose. Tasted of strong citrus hops with a strong bittering hop in the front and a sweet pine in the back. Mouthfeel was medium and carbonated quite well. Finish was bitter and dry. Drinkability was so good i polished off 5 while my cousin finished off my hopslam and batch 9000! I like Shorts Huma-Lupa-Licious!
