Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

Amber hued with fantastic clarity. I get just a slight bit of head that covers most of the top of this beer. Intense tropical to citrus hop aroma. Perhaps a touch of orange soda in the nose?! That is an odd but hop forward flavor. I get the citrus hop bitterness with a strong light malt backbone, but the flavors seem to clash somehow. Texture is moderately carbonated and the bitterness pricks your tongue.

Well alright...Raul is diggin' this one quite well. Beginning thoughts are that it's gorgeous; like, it has the "pregnant glow" of a Victorias's Secret Angel. With that, are tropical layers of aroma and taste like Mozart on a Tahitian cruise, and it is balanced nice and well like Verde plucking malts in Malta. It isn't the most complex, and the main man would like a lil more bite at the end - we kind of have a two year old teething here - but Raul is into it well enough.

Hello, Michigan, welcome to the party.

A - 4.25 - NIce golden amber color with a thick white head on top of it that leaves awesome lacing (there's some hops in this mo). The bottle is cool as f*** too.
S - 4.5 - Awesome orange juice lice smell to it. Pine, grapefruit, bitter hops.
T - 4.5 - Very bitter, grapefruit and pine taste. Orange zest. Some bready malts in the background. Solid Michigan IPA, better than Two Hearted, more like the west coast IPAs (Ruination, Hop Stoopid).
M - 4.5 - Light-medium, alc covered, aftertaste is bitter grapefruit.
O - 4.5 - This is a very bitter beer, and very good. Grapefruit and pine are the main flavors. Less sweet than other IPAs, more bitter.

Bottled 09/10/2014

A- Light orange, slightly hazy, two finger white head.

S- Floral, orange, some grapefruit, light sweetness.

T- Floral, bitter orange peel, some light toasted malt, pine, pretty big bitterness for a single IPA.

M- Medium, typical of the style.

O- This beer really reminds me of a more bitter version of Two Hearted. That's too bad though as I think the balance from Two Hearted is what makes it one of the best single IPAs in the world. Still this one has a great aroma but suffers in drinkability due to the bitterness, but if you know Short's than you know they like a big piney bitter presence in many of their beers, even apart from their IPAs.
