Huma is from Shorts Brewery in Bellaire.
The best way to describe this beer is... Hops on Hops on Hops! The pour is a cloudy dark gold, and smells strongly of pine needles. Huma is a strong IPA, and deservedly is one of the best IPAs in the State of Michigan. The head lasts for a decent amount of time, and the finish is crisp and sharp. It is extremely bitter, but has a citrusy after taste. Huma Lupa is advertised as having a good balance with the malt, which I did not think at first, but upon second tasting it is a very well balanced IPA.
drinkability: As with most IPAs excluding sessions, I do not think I could drink more than two of these beers without a spinning head and burned out tongue. A great beer, in small quantities.

Pours a nice golden color, beautiful for an IPA. Not much topper - maybe a finger's worth of foam. Leaves a light lacing as I drink.
Smell is slightly above average for an IPA. What everyone else is saying is true: citrus fruits, maybe some hints of tropical fruits like pineapple or starfruit.
Hits first with the fruit, then with the bitter. A malty backbone fools you at first - you think this beer will finish smooth and malty. But THEN the bitterness wallops once again. Fantastic hopiness for an IPA, so all you hopheads out there will like if not love Huma. It may be slightly TOO bitter and too little complex for my tastes.
Carbonation level is too high.
Overall, a nice, sessionable IPA, though if you're not a fan of hoppy bitterness, you will not be able to sip on more than one of these in a row.

Here is another great reason to be in Michigan. This American IPA is one of the best and will challenge anything else I drink. The hops of this ale challenges the palate with strong full flavored herbal and citrus notes and becomes more complex and delicious with each drink. The aroma lingers in the mouth and nose and makes you want to drink more to see how the taste continues to deliver. Before this I believed the west coast was the only place that made exceptional APAs now I'm proud that this is made in my back yard. It will be hard to order anything else. Enjoy.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: pours a cloudy copper with an inch of head that dissipates quickly. Ambit of lacing on the top. Nice.
Smell: Hops and grapefruit are present on the nose.
Taste: if it were sweeter and had a higher ABV you think you were drinking an imperial IPA. Lots of west coast hops that last long past the swallow. Decent mouthfeel. This went down well with a couple of brauts.
Overall: i would have rated it higher if I liked hops more.

12oz. bottle poured into a goblet.
A: Pours a light orange. Nice 1.5" head with good retention and a lot of lacing.
S: Citrus, pineapple, carmel malt.
T: Smacks of citrus/pineapple at first sip, but more complex than that, nice spiciness at back end...I swear I get radish flavor for a second, long lasting finish. Nicely balanced by the malt flavor.
M: Body is medium with good carbonation. Good lingering bitterness with slight alch warming.
D: Great IPA, drinks very well in warm weather, right up there with the other great MI IPAs.

12 oz. bottle from Woodchopper. pours a cloudy orange/amber with a lasting frothy white head. aroma is a nice mix of pine and grapefruit. flavor is pleasantly bitter with loads of pine, orange and grapefruit zest and an interesting sweet caramel backbone. medium to full bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. this is damn tasty! I need to find more.

I love IPA's and this one is truly among the best I have ever tried. The entire experience consuming this wonderful IPA fulfilled all of my expectations. I'm sorry I have not sampled it before now.
This IPA has a crisp and clean mouth feel enhanced by the flowery notes of the hops. The aromatics from the unique hops used in this IPA satisfy from start to finish as the brew travels across your pallet. Huma-Lupa-Licious hits the IPA sweet spot with a perfect malt canvas to facilitate a wonderful hoppy experience.
This brew is an instant favorite for me to revisit frequently. Also, another Michigan quality brew.
