A: Chocolate Wheat is jet black in color, thin in appearance, and forms no head. There is a touch of lacing visible in a thin ring around the surface of the brew.
S: The nose is thin, with faint wisps of chocolate, and Short's signature metallic off-flavor barely reaching the nose.
T: Yet another abomination sent out by Short's. While the taste of copper doesn't dominate to the extent of many of their other beers, it does ruin the beer as a whole.
M: Thin body is exaggerated by the lifeless carbonation.
O: How can a brewery continuously send out flawed beer and still receive good ratings? Avoid.

A - Pours black with two fingers of tan head. Head is short-lived but leaves some nice lacing.
S - Bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, a sweet aroma I can't identify and some faint hops.
T - Coffee and cocoa with a good but restrained hop presence. Also a faint cream taste. Lots of roasted malt from the middle through the finish.
M - Medium mouthfeel with a nice creaminess. Finishes roasty and dry.
O - I nice twist on the traditional porter. Not something I would drink every day, but I would have this again.

A - Poured into a pint glass, pours a dark brown/black, with a very warm brown head about one finger high. Head dissipates quickly, leaving almost no lacing.
S - Very malty, roasted/burnt smelling with hints of chocolate. I'm not picking up any hops.
T - Very roasty malts with a bit of hoppy balance... it's a porter, alright. Sadly, the chocolate I was hoping for is there more as an afterthought than an integral part of this brew. It's only noticeable in a faint cocoa bitter near the finish.
M - Pretty standard dry finish. Mild carbonation.
O - Pretty standard fare for a porter, but a little disappointing for what I was expecting. I always look forward to these kind of Short's brews, but it could have had a bit more on the chocolate side. Not a bad porter, though.

The color is a very dark brown, just the very slightest light making it in. A somewhat spritzy, moderately tight medium brown head begins at just less than half a finger and fades a bit quickly but leaves behind decent patching and spotting.
The aroma has a certain steeliness to it with a tang and a bit of cocoa. Some wheat makes for a sort of dry, cracker-like element.
Chocolate comes out much more in the flavor, and more tangibly over the wheat. It's rich and sweet as well as powdery. The base is malty with just a hint of roast. Chalk and a light tanginess lie gently underneath.
The medium body holds a semi-dry feel with a hint of char that goes dryer. The end is gently ashy and, overall, the beer is crisp without biting too hard and runs smoothly on the tongue.

Many thanks to Kzoobrew for the chance to taste this one. Poured from bottle into Brooklyn Tulip glass. Pours a rich black/brown color- fizzy head fills the top of the glass but then recedes quickly, no lacing. Appears rich in carbonation. Nearly pitch black in color after getting into the glass. Smell- sweet malt, candy-ish. a little whiff of roastiness, but other than that, but much there on the aroma. Taste- whoa. roasted bitterness, almost ashy in quality hits the back of the throat. This is indeed very carbonated, thin mouthfeel. It is missing that sweetness that I got on the nose- the carbonation is a little stingy and all I can really think about is the ashy qualities here. This is an ok beer, but I don't think I would seek out again.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub, surprisingly great porter. Nugget and fuggles hops. Chocolate malt apparent. Black with crowning brown head. Nicely balanced , without too much chocolate or even substantial bitterness.Average mouthfeel, appropriate carbonation.

Black, opaque and some tan froth where brew meets the glass. The nose is of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Maybe a touch of vanilla? I can taste the chocolate, coffee, vanilla and roasted flavors. It takes me back to my first homebrewed porter. Not really getting any wheat at all. Mouthfeel is medium and nicely carbonated. A solid take on a porter, but not sure if I get the wheat.

On-tap at the brewery.
Pours a murky brown with a nice dollop of tan head.
Wonderful roast aromas, coffee and dark chocolate dominate.
Roast flavors are mellowed by the addition of wheat, lending a nice, soft roast quality.
Full bodied and very drinkable. One of Short's better beers.

A: Dark almost black and I cannot see through it. Darl chocolatey 1 inch head that dissapates into a nice lacing around the rim with sticky runners on the glass.
S: CHOCOLATE Malt! Coffee undertones but mostly cocolate. Dark roasted (burnt) malt that most Porter's can only dream of.
T:Deep Chocolate drives your mouth over the top. Bittery finish with coffee notes that drive your tastebuds loopy! There are definitely some hops in here to give a sweet bittery finish. Almost has an after taste that includes some apple or pears.
M: Thick and refreshing. Smooth on the tongue but molasses like also.
D: I can very easly drink two of these to satisfy that chocolatey craving that most women and myself even gets.

Bottle into snifter
Appearance - Black with about 1/2 finger mocha colored head, not much lacing.
Smell - Plums, Sweet milk chocolate, fudge and slight grain that produces a blanketed roastiness.
Taste - Roasty. Dark bitter chocolate, spent coffee, subtle smokiness towards the middle and end.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, medium carbonation.
Overall - Good beer. Bought this as a single to try out and it's not bad. Good morning/breakfast beer if that is what you like.

Poured on tap...review from older notebook. Had on tap at Hopcat.
A- Poured a darker brown almost black color. One finger tan head has lighter retention and dies down rather quickly. Nice ringy and web style lacing on the glass when I drink it down.
S- Caramel and chocoalte malts shine through in the nose. Some light wheat notes linger throughout the entire beer in the background. Some light roasted malts but those are also in the background.
T- Chocoalte and wheat are the two things that makes this beer. Almost like Yoo-Hoo in the front half of the beer. No real alcohol taste comes though. There is a light roasting in the back of this beer with chocoalte notes coming through again.
M- Light mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the beer. Chocoalte and wheat left on the palate with chocoalte and light alcohol left in the aftertaste. Light drying on the palate from the alcohol. Flavors were balanced for what the beer was suppose to be. Clean and crisp tasting with no sourness that others talked about (older reviews from the time I had it).
D- I had a couple pints of this stuff. Good all around and the ABV is low enough to drink this all night. I personally liked the Yoo-Hoo like flavor in the front of this beer. Nice one Short's!!!

On tap at the Hopcat in GR Michigan. Solid brown pour, hints of black and a small foamy white head. Head retention was descent, not much lacing though. Some grains and chocolate in the aroma, something a little metallic or lactose like also. Mouthfeel reminded me of the dark rye beers I've had.(Left Hand Terra-Ryzed comes to mind) Taste had some chocolates and a little roasted malt. I think maybe malto-meal could be a good descriptor. Light medium body, finish pretty light, chocolate wheat beer like. There's some milk stout, porter and rye beer traits in this. This beer was kind of all over the place, but different and worth trying. Did not get any sourness, which makes me think this is a different batch from the reviews at the beginning of the year. I think I could drink several of these every once in a while. Nice different low alcohol brew. Shorts does some nice experimentation, you just need to be prepared for it.
