Wow.. what can I say other than thanks to Fantome for bringing me back a growler of this magnificent beer from Michigan. I was also at the mentioned Autumn Brew Review where Joe was peddling his fine beers.

Fantome describes the beer perfectly. Huge lemon citrus nose. Rocky bright white head with moderate lacing. Cloudy golden color. Citrus lemon hits right away in taste and finishes with a zesty pepper that keeps growing for a matter of minutes after you drink. I did sense a bit of fusel/higher alcohol in it and had a slight headache in the morning after, would like to try again with a fresh growler to verify.

A very unique beer that I would drink regularly if available. Watch for any of Joe Short's creations, he has brewed some of the best beers I've sampled in the past few years. His Machu Picchu IPA (sampled at the RAF 2003 and Jackson 5 IPA (ABR 2001) rivaled any other IPA's on the market.

Nose is smacked with cracked pepper, lemon, and orange. The spice and citrus additions almost form a spicy lime-like aroma - extremely pleasing and welcoming. Soft sweetness.

Incredibly balanced citrus and spice palate. Lots of orange up front, lots of peppercorn. Those are the two major players, supported by the coriander spice and lemon (and that damn lime again). Behind all this, is a well made American wheat that's able to withstand all these additions, while holding its own.

Lingering pepper is quite prevalent but not overbearing. Soft citrus and sweetness are there, just in the background. Refreshing, smooth. Light bodied with generous carbonation.

This beer is incredibly good - my first shorts and now I have to drink everything they brew. The flavors are so powerful and bold, and yet the beer is unbelievably smooth and easy to drink. The lingering spice is shorts way of saying "don't you ever forget what we are all about." outstanding!

Sampled from a growler I bought on sight at Short's in beautiful Northern Michigan.
Here we go...
This beer is a pale golden color with what seems like a decent amount of carbonation and plenty of lacing.
Wow, the smell is what gets you here. What is it? Citrus-yes, grassy-maybe, peppery- yes
The taste is different from anything I've ever had and I think I like it. It's quite refreshing, tastes like lemon-tea with a very peppery finish (especially when it warms up a bit).
I'm sure this beer isn't for everyone but it wins me over because of its uniqueness.

This beer pours a hazy gold, very little to no head and some lacing. The aroma is highly perfumed, and quite exotic. In addition to not-quite-ripe tropical fruit, I smell honey and pine. I immediately taste rosewater, and a hint of menthol followed by the hops in the mix which are floral and pine-like. The finish is lovely and smooth as a result of mellowing hops. There is some carbonation, which allows each flavour to be pronounced uniquely but is never in the way.

A refreshing and unusual beer which employs a playful relationship between bitter and sweet tastes.

Fantastic beer. Wheat-colored, light-bodied and bubbly. The peppercorn flavor is prominent but not overly intense. Wonderful aftertaste. I usually don't like spiced wheat beers and I really dig this guy. Highly recommended. I'm on my second as I write this review and I feel number three on the way.

A- Hazy golden in color, thin white head that dissipates into an even thinner rim.
S- The sweet/bitterness from the citrus, the lemon is very abundant. Its ended with the mellow spice of the peppercorns.
T- Smooth refreshing wheat up front but quickly followed by a very sweet bitterness from the oranges and lemons. Its finished with the mellow kick of coriander and slight spice from the peppercorns.
M- Very crisp and clean, the citrus ads a sour bitterness that is still very sweet. It has a very acidic and spicy aftertaste.
D- this beer is real crisp and refreshing but still has the amount of flavor you've come to expect from Shorts. the wheat is perfectly complemented by the citrus and spice's.
