Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries and eight different malts. Combined, the ingredients provide the deep radiant flavor profile and create the dark opaque color. A slight purple lace from the fruit puree enticingly leads into smooth soft hints of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry flavors.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a "mini" imperial pint glass (~14oz). Pours a nice inky black with a good lingering mocha colored finger of foam.

Initially smells are of a light cherry sweetness thinly veiling a creamy malt profile. Drinks similar to the smell with a delightful delicious sweet malt rich malt flavor underpinned by the tate of cherries. Almost tastes like cherry juice was added to the bottle. Some slight chocolate and bitter malt flavors linger on the tongue between sips. The cherry becomes a bit more apparent as the brew goes down, at times the first flavor on your tongue and at others noticeable mixing with the malt flavors at the finish of the sip.

Overall, not an average beer but I think it stands out less than some of Shorts' other offerings. I think if I'm drinking a cherry beer from Michigan, it's likely going to be Bell's Cherry Stout.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, large brown head. Primarily roasty aroma, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and cherries, hints of resinous hops. The flavour has also notes of coffee and dark chocolate, and is not very sweet. There is also a hint of smoke. The cherries are far more subdued than I expected. Hoppy and roasty finish.

Dark but with some reddish hues as it poured in to the glass. Once in the glass, it's very dark and any red highlights disappear. Thin coffee ice cream colored head. Aroma is malty and sweet with the black cherry clearly present (and inviting). Flavor is very interesting. Very first thing I tasted was smoke, but with subsequent sips it's more the bourbon barrels and some burnt malts that dominate the palate. Black cherry is also much more noticeable on the nose than the palate. Finish is more dry and less sweet than I expected based on the aroma. Medium bodied with some nice warmth from the alcohol. Overall, quite tasty.

I don't get much in the way of black cherries, but it certainly is a nice porter. Tasty chocolate notes, excellent roasted malts, and some amorphous fruitiness that's quite subdued, mostly just imbuing a bit more sweetness.

I wanted to like this one more but the cherry was just a little too subtle for me. Bottled date 9/3/19. Pours a nice dark black opaque color with just a little film of tan head and very scant lingering lacing. Smells of nice dark rich chocolate fudge, mocha coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla and a very faint hint of stone fruit. Taste follows the nose, with lighter cherry notes that were a little too faint and distant for me - otherwise I would have given it a 4.25 or 4.5 for flavor. Very rich, chewy, luscious mouthfeel though, excellent coating of the palate, just the right amount of carbonation. High ABV is well-hidden. A tasty beverage with both savory and sweet food pairings.

Bottled on 9/3/19. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours black with a big fluffy dark khaki mocha head that falls slowly leaving great thick retention and sticky frothy lacing. The aromas are malt forward. Some vanilla. Mild and subtle hints of funk or vinegar, which might just be the black cherries. The flavors are bold. Lots of chocolate, especially dark chocolate. More mild hints of vanilla. The black cherries come through, especially in the finish. This one is ultimately bittersweet. Nice malt backbone. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's creamy, velvety, smooth and dangerously drinkable.

This is a really nice brew. The craftsmanship is on point. The black cherries shine without dominating or diminishing everything else. This one is bold, but balanced. Well done. I really like this one.

No date on bottle. Poured into stout glass. It pours nearly ink black with an impressive, khaki-colored head and lacing. The smell features roasted malt, coffee, and subtle but discernible black cherry. The cherry really comes through in the taste; it's tart and blends well with the burnt coffee and bakers chocolate. It has a typical porter body: not very thick but pleasant to drink. The 6% ABV adds to the lightness in the mouth feel. Overall, it's nicely conceived and crafted. I was concerned the black cherry would be cloying which wasn't the case. If a good cherry porter could be brewed in any state, it would be Michigan.

Very dark with a burgundy tinge. Large mocha-colored head. Sweet/tart cherry nose with chocolate. Tart cherry flavor mixing with coffee bitterness. Finish is a little more harsh than I'd like.
