A 15%er in a mixed twelve pack? Sounds like an absolute disaster waiting to happen. But I regress. Haven't had an IPA of above 12.5% since DFH 120 and that stuff was a diaster.
So expecting the unusual but hopeful.
Look - Sunset orange over an Arizona highway. Crispy and clear as a warm summer day on the beach. Carbonation is as low as you can go with a few bubbles to show it's there.
Smell - Candied orange. Tagerines. More candied orange. Sweet malts. Not a hint of alcohol.
Taste - Candied orange galore. The malt comes through more here but the alcohol is surprisingly MILD. This is less alcoholic than the two beers I had prior and they were 5% less.
Feel - The body almost crumbles in your mouth in a sense. Thick and syrupy at first, but break down around your tongue the longer it sicks and settles down to a higher moderate with a matching carbonation and a high thickness. Alcohol ramps up for sure but it doesn't burn and really only envelopes the area of the mouth upon an exhale. IE when you take a breath and blow it out you can tell you've been drinking a potent beer but it doesn't feel nearly the breadth of the exhale.
Overall - Potent, Pungent, High ABV though well hidden for that. A true slow drinker TIPA if I've ever seen one. The after mouth heat surely won't win you any favors on a potential DUI, but drink it at home and don't move for a bit and you'll enjoy every second of such a visceral journey. Top ten? Nah. But a fantastic IPA.

12oz bottled 10/23/18 (6 weeks ago) poured into a snifter at fridge temp, 15% ABV 75 IBU. The beer pours hazy orange yellow in color with quickly fading nearly white head. The head recedes to a fat ring and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is mild revealing a bit of grapefruit, pine and booze. The flavor is big, sweet, boozy pils malt with little hop flavor. Maybe a little pine and citrus before the heavy bitterness and alcohol heat hit through the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with strong carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good in a way over the top way. Very reminiscent of 120 minute. Not terribly complex, but pretty well put together for what it is.
