Pontius Road Pilsner is deficient in both colour and clarity, it has the complexion of lemonade. This fuzzy beer is too anemic for golden highlights and instead looks somewhat neon against the light. Though bubbles are visible the surface remains bald as a billiard ball.

The aroma has lively 'farmhouse' notes of yeast, a generous amounts of grass and grain, as well as a cutting citrus acidity and a dash of peppery spice. There is a hint of sweet yellow corn but for the most part is earthy and strongly reminiscent of a chamomile tea with a wedge of lemon.

The palate reveals a rather 'botanical' profile: a flowery taste and minty bitterness. The taste/texture combination is zippy and well-suited to the grainy qualities of the malts. The finish feels distinctly clean, "lemony-minty fresh" in fact, and has a subtle doughiness.

The combination of Perle and Santiam hops has added a ton of character without compromising the beer's lighter, agreeable appeal. The grassy, minty-herbal and flowery nature of these varieties is an ideal counterpart for the fresh bread and lightly honeyed qualities of the malt.

Pilsners are always a bit of a gamble and I never know what to expect: some offer a blissful balance of wholesome malt and zestful hops, while others have a maltiness so feeble and plain that you can hardly taste the grain. This one is closer to the former and is a simple but well structured example of the style; a real joy to drink.

Poured from the bottle a pale straw yellow with two fingers of bright white head.

Aroma of spicy hops and light earthy grains.

The taste was floral and a touch spicy with light grains. Finished clean.

Light-to-medium bodied and crisp with a moderate carbonation.

This was quite tasty and would have again for sure.

poured 12oz bottle into pint glass.

A - Lemon and light straw in color with a bit of haze. Bright 1.5 finger white head. Bubbles slowly rise from bottom of glass. Decent lacing for a Pils.

S - Lemon zest, with some wheat, grain, grass. Light on the malts.

T - Wheat, grassy, with some grain and Pilsener malt. I get some light lemon zest and floral hops. Tasty Czech Pilsener that I could enjoy anytime.

M - Very crisp and clean with some zippy carbonation. Light bodied and quite refreshing, I finished it in quickly.

O - I enjoyed this and it is not a style I have had much of. Only Budvar and Urquel, many years ago, when I visited Prague.

This is a pale yellow color, extremely fizzy and well carbonated. Smells are cereal grains and light hops, maybe a light white grape smell. Taste is crisp and very well balanced, finishing with a decent bite from the hops. This is light and very drinkable, which I'm sure is exactly what it is intended to be.

A - Color is very clear, yellow color as expected with a nice level of carbonation and some notable creamy head that has good sticky lace.

S - Smells of pilsner malts, grassy herbal hops, and a touch of yeast.

T - A nice semi-bitter version of the typical style the pilsner malts are more present than expected but not enough to give the beer a "skunky" taste. Hops wave back and forth with bitterness. Not bad.

M - Light to medium it had a nice body for a Pils.

Overall it was really to plan and close to the style for a repeat offering but I chock it up to a pleasant drinking experience.
