This is a crystal clear awesome looking Pilsener. Could have a little bit more gas but the color is excellent. Taste is very clear and light could deserve a little bit more hops. It belongs definitely to the premier league of Pilsener i had in the US.

Pontius Road Pilsner is deficient in both colour and clarity, it has the complexion of lemonade. This fuzzy beer is too anemic for golden highlights and instead looks somewhat neon against the light. Though bubbles are visible the surface remains bald as a billiard ball.

The aroma has lively 'farmhouse' notes of yeast, a generous amounts of grass and grain, as well as a cutting citrus acidity and a dash of peppery spice. There is a hint of sweet yellow corn but for the most part is earthy and strongly reminiscent of a chamomile tea with a wedge of lemon.

The palate reveals a rather 'botanical' profile: a flowery taste and minty bitterness. The taste/texture combination is zippy and well-suited to the grainy qualities of the malts. The finish feels distinctly clean, "lemony-minty fresh" in fact, and has a subtle doughiness.

The combination of Perle and Santiam hops has added a ton of character without compromising the beer's lighter, agreeable appeal. The grassy, minty-herbal and flowery nature of these varieties is an ideal counterpart for the fresh bread and lightly honeyed qualities of the malt.

Pilsners are always a bit of a gamble and I never know what to expect: some offer a blissful balance of wholesome malt and zestful hops, while others have a maltiness so feeble and plain that you can hardly taste the grain. This one is closer to the former and is a simple but well structured example of the style; a real joy to drink.

When I poured this, it has golden color body with very little head. The smell is grassy and grainey. The taste is dull, I get some wheat flavor and a grassy undertone, no hops present. The moutheel is kinda watery and overall it doesn't impress me at all. .

From a 355 ml bottle into a pokal.

A-The brew is very light golden in color and clear. A few streams of chunky carbonation are visible. The head is pretty pathetic...just a cap of short-lived, shiny white foam. Lacing hangs around for a bit, but eventually dissipates.

S-The smell is semi-sweet for the style with dominant grain flavors, some straw/wheat notes, and butter-scented biscuity malt flavors. I get just a touch of grassy hops, too. Pretty simple, but not too far off for the style.

T-The taste is dryer than the smell with vegetal wet grains, biscuits, some butter, and a slightly soapy, vaguely bitter finish. Not much in the way of hops here.

M-The feel is not-quite-crisp and effervescent, with a surprisingly filling and robust body.

O-This is pretty middle-of-the-road effort. The grain flavor is somewhat off and the butter notes do not do much for me. The vaguely bitter, soapy finish does not compensate for the funky, buttery grain flavors up front, and the feel was inviting at first, but about halfway through the glass, it became sore of annoying. Meh.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy straw yellow with a medium creamy white head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet, slightly vegetal and butterscothy, malts with noble hops.

The flavor is sweet honey / butterscotch malts with a grassy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a bit of a mess with DMS and diacetyl.

A: A small finger of bright white head was formed and quickly fell into the pilsner glass the beer was poured into. There was a right of fine bubbles clinging to the edge with no real lacing to be noticed. The beer is a hazy straw yellow color with a steady slow stream of bubbles popping up from the bottom of the glass.

S: Clean freshly baked bread, slight lemon zest and spicey noble hop aroma are all present in equal amounts.

T: A nice crisp earthy bitterness in the front of the profile. As the pallet adjusts there is a nice round malt character in the way of bread, lemon and husky grain. The hop flavor follows with an almost fruity/caramel like flavor thats subtle.

M: A very crisp dry finish with a moderate amount of carbonation. very drinkable.

O: Not your run of the mil Czech Pilz, its got some interesting flavors I can't pin point but its enjoyable. The hop flavor is excellent.
