Had on tap @Lord Hobo

Appearance: one inch head, orange-brown in color, clear, medium carbonation

Smell: cinnamon, clove, and pumpkin spice

Taste: clove, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice with a touch of vailla

Mouthfeel: very sweet , medium-light carbonation, medium bodied

Overall: Was really strangely happy to find a pumpkin beer this late in the season. This is just the type of pumpkin beer I would expect from Shorts. Very pronounced, sweet, and strong on flavor. May be one of the most flavorful low ABV pumpkin beers I have had. Would be a pumpkin beer of choice if I could get it regularly.

Funkin punkin is served up a deep and cloudy amber color. My pour does not have a whole lot of head on it, and lacing is not super either.

The aroma is classic pumpkin beer with a mix of pumpkin pie spices, roasted squash and caramel sweetness.

The flavor is spice filled up front with plenty of allspice, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. The pumpkin comes through a lot in the middle and has a taste to it that seems fresher than a lot of other pumpkin beers I have had.

The mouthfeel is medium with a fairly fizzy amount of carbonation and pretty dry finish that leaves plenty of spice on my tongue.

Overall I found this to be a very tasty pumpkin ale. It does not stand out for any reason, but is very drinkable and well put together.

Had on tap at HopCat poured into a pint glass:

A: Poured an orange copper color with 1/2" of head, no lacing at all.

S: Spicy, cinnamon, clove, all spice, peppery, and a cidery aroma

T: over powerful cinnamon, no pumpkin or hops flavor detected

M: Very thin and watery, very light carbonation

D: I made it through the whole pint, otherwise I will try it again next fall to see if next years batch is better. But, I've had my fill for '08.

Had on tap at the Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, MI. Poured into a traditional pint glass.

A - What you'd expect in a pumpkin beer. A nice copper color with a little bit of head retention on top. Extra lacing as the glass becomes lighter.

S - Great balance of hops, pumpkin/squash, and spice (nutmeg and maybe cinnamon).

T - Felt this pumpkin ale to be almost perfectly balanced. It's a style that is way overdone and rarely has any creativity but Short's has seemed to find a way to play the middle. It's not overly spicy like Smashing Pumpkin or Pumking yet it doesn't have too much vegetable taste. A little lighter than DFH Punkin is a respectable issue.

M - Easy drinking, like most pumpkin beers. Subtle spices make it easy to come back for more.

O - I've been trying to find this now for two years. Glad to finally track it down. Worth the wait.

Picked up a growler for Styles on RateBeer. Haven't had this is a few years so lets see what I've been missing.

Pours a orangish brown w/ few finger khaki head. Slight lacing on my goblet. Starts w/ some pumpkin pie spices of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and pumpkin. Little bit of malty sweetness too. Wish the aroma was a little more intense though.

It starts a little creamy w/ similar flavors as the nose, but just less pronounced. Not much in the after taste. You get the pumpkin and spice flavors in the beginning then it kind of fades to nothing.

Starts creamy on the palate and the flavors hang around for a little bit. There a slight warming feeling probably due to the spices. The growler didn't last too long.

Nice sessionable Pumpkin/Autumn ale. Wish the flavors were more pronounced though. I'll be picking a few more growlers of this up before its gone for the year.
