it's actually 5.5abv. took notes from brewery yesterday.

A- poured a cloudy copper color. white head with little lacing.

S- just a little floral citrus hops. really nice.

T- same as smell but with some caramel malt blended perfectly with it. the bitterness was just right. just a notch or two more it would be an ipa.

M- medium/ light in bodied. good carbonation.

Drinkabilty- awesome. could drink this all night long.

Overall- a pub exclusive and a good one at that. when i go back i wouldn't mind drinking again. wish they could make 6'es of this once a year but i like how it's a treat to those who have the dedication to drive out there.

Adam brought back a growler of this from Michigan. Thanks!

This pale ale has a clear, dark, yellow appearance. A once inch white head is perched atop the beer, and leaves a healthy amount of lacing on the glass. The Stellar Ale is a single hop pale ale, using only Amarillo Hops. The beer has a delectable aroma, and the taste follows suit. The presence of the Amarillo hops is very strong. Freshness is key with hoppy beers, and this is a fresh growler from the source. Very nice. This beer is effortless to drink, has plenty of flavor, and a clean, refreshing feel. This was a very pleasant surprise. Well done, Short's!

Brought this home to PA from my trip to Michigan. It made it in great shape, and it is great.

A - Copper color beverage poured vigorously from my growler leaved a one-finger head. The head dissipates but a thin layer remains and eventually leaves a ring of foam just around the edge as you drink. There is some lacing present, but not a ton.

S - Smells strongly of piney hops, with a sweet smell in the end of the inhale. I love the smell, it reminds me more of an IPA, but trust me I'm not complaining.

T - Malt in the very front followed by a big kick of hops with a bitter end. Awesome to say the least, traditionalists would probably say too much hops for the style, but it's Short's, trust me it's great.

M - Light to medium bodied. Drying sensation after the swallow and carbonation is great.

D - Overall for all the hops I found this to be an easy drinking beer. This beer has a ton of flavor for an APA which I applaud. My wife says she thinks this would be great to drink all summer long. I agree, but unfortunately I don't live near Bellaire, MI.

Great job Short's!!

Bought a small glass of this while at Short's and enjoyed it in their little music half of the pub.

Pours a deep amber copper with a small one finger white head. Thin head remains after a bit with some lacing as the drink goes down.

Plenty of pine notes & hops on this one as it hits your nose. A bit of citrus & grapefruit too.

The kick of the amarillo hops is huge and dominates the taste. Some malt backbone too, but the hops is dominant.

Finishes a bit dry and is overall well balanced and leaves you wanting another taste.

I would have had another, but there was so much else to taste that I had to try something else. I'd recommend it if you are into hoppy APAs and I'll try it again if I can.

12 ounce bottle, dated 11/14/14

Bottle pours with a deep orange color and quickly dissipating, one finger white head.

Aroma is a massive hit of orange and grapefruit. There also appears to be a slight bready malt presence, along with faint spiciness.

Taste follows with a better balance of orange/grapefruit and spicy, bready malt. The bready spiciness dominates the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium with moderate bitterness. Rather sticky on the finish, but the bitterness does enough to tone this down.

Overall, another damn fine IPA from Short's! Well balanced and a great showcase of the Amarillo hop, couldn't ask for much more.

Stellar Ale is served up a light copper color with a shiny and frothy head. The cap of foam has decent staying power and leaves some nice lace on the glass as I drink the beer.

The aroma is very enjoyable with plenty of orangey and floral Amarillo hops coming through. Sometimes Amarillo can have a bit of a powdery sort of aroma to them and this beer definitely has that going on. Luckily I enjoy that characteristic and also enjoy how it plays off of the just slightly toasty malt character.

The flavor mimics the aroma quite well, except that the hop character changes to become a bit more sweet and floral with the citrus notes a bit more subdued. It is a very enjoyable flavor profile with great balance and integration.

The mouthfeel is what you would expect for a beer that is stuck between IPA and APA. Medium, but leaning closer to the light end of that classification. The carbonation is subdued, giving the beer and nice smoothness. The finish is dry with plenty of lingering hop flavors.

I really dig this beer and after having it again after not ordering one for a few years I have to say that in my opinion it is the best Short's pale ale I have had. Definitely a great beer that is fairly sessionable.

Stellar Ale from Short's was listed on the chalkboard as an amarillo hopped pale ale. Color was in between copper and gold, closer to gold. The head was creamy and white. Aroma was heavy on esthers with apple, banana and bubble gum notes with a little funk in the nose as well. Flavor was bright and bitter. Grapefruit and citrus zest were major componants. Body was medium with moderate carbonation and a nice dry finish.

Hooray Short's! This is a nice showcase for the amarillo. I'd drink this again.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/10/2014. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt balance; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is an damn nice IPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
