Bottle from friend returning from MI. Not sure why this is listed as a Belgian Strong Dark, but I reviewed it as listed on the bottle (Amber Ale with apple cider).

Pours out a dark amber brown with a dusting of white foam around the glass edges. Aroma is very nice - toasted malts, a bit nutty and a hint of apple. Smell is more like a nut brown ale than your typical amber, which is a good thing in my book. Flavor is very malty with bold toasted and nutty flavors, a bit tannic and slightly fruity, but no obvious cider flavors. Finishes sweet with a bit of yeasty spice. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick and sticky for style, but generally speaking, the body and carbonation are middle of the road and would improve with a little more carbonation.

Overall, I thought this was a step up from most of the bland amber ales out there. (830 characters)
