Thanks to Hoppymeal for this great gem!
Bottle #135/744
A: Poured dark black with a little light penetration possible. Small thin light brown head which doesn't stay long.
S: Whoa...nothing but anise at first past on the smell-dar. After it warms the bourbon and vanilla becomes apparent but are definite undertones behind the strong smell of licorice.
T: Taste is much the same as the nose. Taste is primarily of black licorice and roasted malts. I am not a fan of licorice but this is very nice and easy to drink and not over powering with the licorice taste. Roasted malts and spicy hops balance out the sweetness of the vanilla and roasted malts and the bourbon adds the complexity to pull it all together.
M: Medium body with slight carbonation. A little amount of oils left on the tongue that pulls the bourbon taste out as it crosses the palatte.
D: Split the bottle with some fellow BA's and enjoyed every sip. The light mouthfeel and low alcohol makes it easy to drink but the licorice taste could be a little much after a 750 of this.

Black licorice is a divisive flavor, but I love it. The flavor is moderate on the nose but a bit lighter on the taste. The mouth feels is a bit thin for what I was expecting, but that's no big deal. It's an unusual beer and a good one
