Pours a very bright transparent rose color. Thin looking, and so red i wouldnt be surprised if it contained some amount of food coloring.

The aroma is sweet and made of a nice mix of berries: blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries being the most notable.

There are noticable berries in the taste but not nearly as much as in the aroma. A bitter, almost sour, astringency lingers in the middle and gives way to a dry, flavorless finish.

The mouthfeel is thin and pop-like, not impresseive at all in this category. It has an incredibly dry finish. I could slam these back all night, but the taste is a bit akward, and its really just not that enjoyable.

Bottle# 42 of 1008

Deep hazy pinkish red pour with 1/2" of bubbly white head. Vibrant with active bubbles. Bountiful fruit aromas with raspberry and blueberry upfront. Strawberry and blackberry are both noticeable in the background. Spicy, slightly bready rye malts and a puff of alcohol. Awesome, intense fruity aroma. I love the way I can actually pinpoint the different fruits in this one.

Spicy crisp rye upfront gets immediately hit by a wall of bright berry fruit flavors. Each fruit is apparent and lends a hand in the overall melange of flavor here. Flows down with a punchy kick and a bit of alcohol as well. Warming brew with a great fruit and rye aftertaste. An amazing strong fruit beer here.

Medium bodied and creamy with lots of carbonation that rushes down with each sip. Refreshing and warming. One of my favorites of the Imperial Series and still holding up great with some age on it. Would have liked to have another bottle of this one lying around!

Bottle from the brewpub. Pinkish colourwith malty head. Looks more strawberry, smells more blackberry, tastes more blueberry. Berry tasty for a fruit beer, very drinkable. I grows on you too. Above average mouthfeel. Some thick lace. One I would have again.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this one. Bottle # 228/1005.
Appears a dense, dark crimson with a lush, 1 finger white head that sticks around. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of raspberries, strawberries, caramel, vanilla, and blackberries...actually appealing for a fruit beer.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas but a small dropoff with more mild flavors. There is still solid remnants of mild tartness, and berries shining through with gentle grapefruit and rye.
Mouthfeel is sweet up front, medium bodied, with dryness in the finish.

Tried another of Joe Short's Imperial Release Series - this is number 11 of 13.

I had tried the Soft Parade "regular" previously on tap last summer. While it was good, it was not something I would order again. However, add more fruit and malt sugars to bump ABV and I will give it a try. Actually I plan to taste and review all 13 of the releases so getting this was inevitable.

Shared this one with my lady. Pours a nice ruby/garnet color with slight head. Some clouds remain and there is nice lacing throughout.

Definite fruitiness but does not appear to be a "sweetened" beer. Tad on the sour side with some bitterness. Info booklet mentions that this is a double golden rye ale fermented with strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries.

Nicknamed the ol' leg spreader, the original was meant for sharing with your love over dinner or desert. My girlfriend did like this beer (which is an achievement in itself) but I have achieved better performance from Lindemans lambics.

I liked this beer. Good choice for those times when a mood needs to be achieved while drinking with someone.

On draft at HopCatz. Pours a light, translucent red in color. Smell is all berries and not much else. Very carbonated and fizzy on the mouthfeel. You would never guess that this beer comes close to 9% ABV. As easy as a drinker this beer is, it could end your night in a hurry. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

750ml bottle acquired in trade with hoppymeal (thanks!). Bottle # 228/1005.

Poured a medium to deeper and muddy reddish/purplish/brownish color with a smaller sized head. Aromas of lots of different berries (strawberies, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries). I would get a different berry every time I sniffed. The berries were done nice! Tastes of the same berries with some light rye bread in tehre as well. Light tart finish. Good thing I like all the types of berries in this one.

Picked up this bottle from Shorts a while ago. They say it was from 2008. 750 poured into my town hall snifter:

A - pour gets a thin to medium frothy white head that dissipates into foam ring around the edges with murky cloudy foam in the middle. Amber, ruby pinkish color.

S - Lots of wine like berries. A bit like a fruity slushy. Pretty nice.

T - Faint berries and slightly wine like. Kind of citrus and tart at the same time. I know that its two years old but the berries really suffered on this one.

M - Pretty good carbonation. Its refereshing but probably more like a summer brew than a winter brew.

D - Pretty good. Its nice but I'm really not sure to this kind of beer. It is cool that it is vintage and two years old but the berries in it really suffers and I believe it would be better fresh. Pretty nice smell, mouthfeel and drinkability but the taste lacks.

Bottle from the free table at Woodshop 5.0. Pours a light muddy brown color with a smallish beige head. Striking berry aroma/flavor with blackberries and blueberries especially. Additional notes of caramel, chocolate, and dark bread crusts. Alcohol is undetectable and I was shocked to see this was 10%.

750mL bottle #445, courtesy of HopHobo poured into a snifter.

Pours a hazy reddish amber that settles in reddish brown in the glass underneath a big tan head that recedes slowly and leaves decent lacing.

Aroma is big on this one and sweet with fruits, strawberries nd raspberries being the most prominent for me. Plenty of brown sugar sweetness as well. Overall, a very sweet perfume-like nose.

The taste has the same fruity sweetness but only after an initial tartness from the blackberries and blueberries which wasn't nearly as noticeable in the nose. The malts and sugars form a solid base and the finish is a mix of sweet and tart fruits and a hint of alcohol burn.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty slick with less than moderate carbonation. The fruits linger on the palate.

Another very original beer from Shorts and one of the better fruit beers I've had in a long time. Big thanks to Matt for sharing this one.

Split a 750mL 3 ways. I love the literature attached to this bottle, 'Ye ol' panty remover,' hehehe. Poured into a snifter with a luscious fullbodied hazey burgundy red. A nice soft layer of pink head lays on top of the beer. It works well.

The smell is fantastic and reminds me of a dark fruit smoothie. The blackberries and raspberries are beautiful, and there is a nice cherry scent is really easy on the nose. A tart blueberry scent rests well.

The taste is a bit of a dissapointment, very underwhelming in comparison to the smell. The fruit sweetness is there, but this beer is very drying. On the end there is a grainy taste and texture that is produced by the rye, and does not work well with everything else that is going on here. The fruits are a little bit more tart but the mouthfeel is pourly executed and adds to the lack of substance. A small chocolate taste is shows up every once and a while. A good beer, and one that I would consider giving to a wine drinker or anybody that is into the lindemans lineup.

12oz bottle received from adamdd.

Amber red in color and semi-translucent. Pours with a minimal head. Can smell this brew right away and get a good scent of berries including blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. Taste is similar to how it smells, however I don't get much alcohol at all as it is very well hidden. If you had a couple of these the 10% would definitely creep up on you. There is good carbonation throughout with the berry fruit flavors continuing through the end on the palate.

Would look forward to trying this one again.

Huge thanks to jdubfl for bringing all the Short's beers in for a tasting.

A: Pours a reddish orange hue with a small head. No retention or lace.

S: Tons of fresh mixed berry, light notes of wheat.

T: A blend of berries for sure, though no one type of berry really stands out. Somewhat acidic, sort of winey, fruity. A kicked up chicks brew.

M: Medium in body, nice carbonation.

D: Good,

Thanks to Deuane for bringing this back from MI for me. Poured from a capped 750ml bottle into my Duvel tulip glass. The ale appears a murky crimson brown color with about two fingers of pink ecru foam. The head leaves a minimal lace on the inside of the tulip. Nose and flavor are dominated by berries. Just like the label states, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries are all represented here in a good way. Bitter, sweet, and per-fumy with a slight alcohol burn. A berry bonanza. I've suddenly got a craving for all types of berry jams on toast. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Somewhat dry, yet somewhat slick. Unique and quite tasty. Glad I had the chance to try this one.

750 ml bottle courtesy of hoppymeal, thanks to Derek for another Short's brew, split with a friend last night, 11 of 13 in the imperial series, bottle #326/1,005, poured into my Rubicon snifter

A-Maroon color from all the berries most likely, also some brown in there too, 3/4 inch soapy white head that leaves a nice pillow once it disappears, nice rtention, some lacing
S-You guessed it there are tons of berries, also some butter, mostly candy-like smells, mild hoppiness in the background, grassy hops, rye, small amount of spice, and alcohol
T-Can really taste the one pound of fruit they used per gallon, at first seems more like wine, starts off with a big berry flavor, toasty bread and chewiness in the middle, finish has lots of rye which was not as strong in the aroma, but the fruity berries are still there, some booze come to the surface once it warms more, expected it to be really fruity judging by the smell but the taste had a lot more rye and toasted malt, can taste like blueberry jam spread across a piece of toast at some times as weird as they may sound, nice mixture of fruit and dry bread
M-Chewy, fruity, toasty, and malty mouthfeel, not as sugary in the flavor than the smell, full bodied with a need for more carbonation, this stuff looked like cough medicine in certain shades of light, taste lingers long with the stinging booze
D-This is ten percent and you taste it, could not drink this bottle by myself for sure, we drank this after a clean lambic so it was going to seem heavy anyways but it was overkill in that category, should share with a few people, heavy on the stomach

I was intrigued by the description of the beer alone being that it is a double golden rye ale fermented with blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries, this brew was bottled a year and a half ago, and it seems like it will get better with even more age, this was Short's three hundredth batch too, hope I get to drink this one again, recommended, this beer is also cool because of its reference to the Doors

The appearance is a rich chestnut with a slight pink color. Slightly hazy, but pleasantly appealing.

The aroma is a very strong sweet berry smell when it is cool and the alcohol becomes more apparent as the beers warms, but also brings along a malty presence.

The taste starts pleasantly tart and a bitter berry montage follows. The beer finishes dry leaving a subtle berry taste on your tongue and as you inhale. My girlfriend feels as though Joe Short is gods gift to stellar beer brewing, and thinks that this beer is a suitable substitute for the wine she normally drinks. This beer definitely still taste like a beer and is obvious that the beer was constructed with love and not berry extract concoction.

The body is medium allowing for extensive drinkability. There is not a lot of residual sugar and the beer attenuated very nicely.

I could drink the sh*# out of it.

Give me a beer any day over wine, but when you have this you can immerse your self in a beer drinking experience that will also suit most wine drinkers.
