Just picked up a sixer at my local bottle shop. No date stamp, but I gotta believe this is less than a couple weeks old.
Looks like a straight-up German Hefe. Cloudy golden, with a slight russet hue. Creamy dense 1" settled head that's a classic bone white. I swirled the bottom inch of the bottled as to inject the yummy yeast sediment - always do with a wheat beer. Perfect smattered, blotchy lace all the way down.
Very, very accurate fresh ginger tingling the nostrils, with a perfect lemon edge. The clove & banana are also making a proper showing. Smells like a Franziskaner AFTER a plump lemon slice has been squeezed and plopped into it. The ginger is really nice and intriguing, as I cannot wait any longer...
Short's delivers what the advertise - once again! The ginger tastes very natural and really works with this beer. The lemon makes a great counterbalance to the ginger, so it's not so aggressively spicy. The hefeweissen feature is spot on. You can really tell this is a wheat beer without any confusion. Bubblegum, clove, banana and lemon make for a sturdy and traditional foundation. All the rest is Short's masterful madness - of which I LOVE!
Mouthfeel is creamy, creamy, creamy with a perfect medium body. Carbonation is fine and airy. Lemon-ginger finish that's a bit dry.
Overall a complete winner. I'm a hefe fan, so I had my reservations if this style was going to be twisted beyond recognition. What I got was a progressive, respectful and empowered rendition of a great Bavarian-style wheat beer. I'd love to pair this with some wild salmon with a ginger ancho glaze.

I had a pint of this as the imperial version at Shorts in Bellaire. Pronounced ginger taste, well balanced with the malts. I really look forward to this coming out in bottles each year. Most ginger brews are too subtle in the ginger taste for these old taste buds and I find this one A-OK.

A: Copper hue w/ a slim cream colored head
S: Ginger for sure, it also carries a mild sweet aroma
T: Sweet backbone accentuated by the ginger, spicy undertone helps round it out.
M: Not too heavy, fits well w/ the taste profile
O: A very fun beer, glad it was a sampler, whole beer might be tough, but it is very good. Perfect for sharing
