Bourbon Huma is our best-selling American India Pale Ale aged in bourbon barrels for up to 9 months. An initial malt sweetness is replaced with flavors of charred oak and sweet vanilla, followed by the standard Huma hop punch to the palate. This new combination creates the sensation of sipping on a sweet bourbon that finishes like a bitter hop theme park in your mouth.

Decanted from a 12oz (355 ml) bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass; bottled 9/09/2019.
A: Pours a slightly hazy, golden to amber color with a one finger, egg shell white head, rim retention, but broad caliber, but limited lacing.
S: Bourbon really the strongest element, but the fruitiness of grapefruit and orange, vanilla, caramel, as well as some pine do come through.
T: Semisweet. The palate picks up more of the non-Bourbon notes, but the alcohol content is quite noticeable. Bitterness light but closes hard.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: I do like barrel aging, but not when it overpowers everything else. This brew reeks of Bourbon, enveloping pretty much everything else. Seems a waste to use anything but bittering hops.

Part of a Kroger mix a six for $9.99. Pretty sure a shorts seasonal pack must've been broken up recently and placed in the singles section since 4 of my 6 beers tonight are from them. Haven't had the original Huma in the better part of a decade so I'm going into this one pretty much blind.
Look - Nice burning sunsent amber with a finger of thick head that doesn't stick around much, eventually falling to thin whisps around the top of the glass. Carbonation appears low and stick is also low.
Smell - A lot of wood from the bourbon on the nose. Hops perhaps a bit on the catty side but the balance is done well. Touches of vanilla.
Taste - Wet hops, almost orange candy like in level with a vanilla twang alongside the woody oak. Different sips allow one of the other to save precident each and every time. Catty isn't there thankfully.
Feel - Thick bodied and sticky with a low carbonation. Bourbon flavor dwindles as it sits. Swallows bitter though easy and coats the mouth with sticky sweetness.
Overall - Interesting and a perfectly fine addition to a mix a sixer. Not ground-breaking but a good drink nonetheless. As always, try it and come to your own conclusions.

I got two bottles of this beer from a mixed 12pck that I bought from my local meijer store. It poured a slightly hazy copper with thin white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had waifs of bourbon and pine hop. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with IPA base and bourbon highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

12oz bottle date Oct 2019. Drank Dec 4 2019. Poured into a tulip glass
Pour: orange, copper with one to two finger off white head. Dissipated into a thick ring and some clouds. Minimal lacing.
Nose: pine, booze, bready malt.
Taste: booze upfront, sweet/tart citrus, followed by bitter hops.
Mouthfeel: fairly thick, slightly syrupy. Moderate carbonation.
Overall: good but probably won’t seek out again. Somehow just not balanced or complex enough. But worth a try.

Copper amber barleywine look with scents of oaky hops and flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla caramel pine leaves. Overall it is good but have had other bourbon IPAs that were more pleasing.
