Keg at EBF.

Light fizzy head, clear copper colored.

Nose is like iced tea, brown sugar, hint lemon, bit of caramel malts and brownish malts, don't really get the whisky.

Taste is again sweet like iced tea, bready malts, light phenols, hint brown malts, hint of what I want to believe is whisky but not really, again a light lemony/lime flavor, and dry finish.

Mouth feels a bit thin, decent carb.

Overall not really my cup of tea. Again I like how they are trying to push the mold a lot, but this is just meh.

appearance - honey orange, minor head, minor lacing. lacing dominates on the rim and sticks lightly.

smell - whisky, lime like sour, caramel malts, brown sugar, vanilla. definitely dominated by the first 3.

taste - the same with an odd sourness that doesnt seem to be coming from the lime. a bit more bold than the smell and the vanilla comes in more.

mouthfeel - so drinkable and no wonder, i had no clue it was 6 percent, i thought from the lack of carbonation that it was higher, but the body shouldve been the tall tale sign.

Review from notes taken back in March on my phone. This brew appears a type of orange copper color with a thin film for a head that is slightly offwhite to almost cream in color. A swirl hardly revives the cap back to a lacing atop the brew. The lacing that sticks to the glass is spotty at best.

The aroma of this brew is a peculiar yet inviting mixture of whiskey accented alcohol, citrus fruits like lime upfront and then it picks up more tangy aspects. Through the middle it has some very mild sweetness somewhat like caramel malt but the more whiffs I take, the more it smells like vanilla... interesting.

The taste is pretty much a reiteration of what the aroma leads on. The flavor upfront is lime with an extra bite of sourness. Tangy alcohol somewhat like whiskey is throughout with a bold presence. Just like the backend of the aroma indicated, there is a slight sweetness somewhat like vanilla that pokes through to calm things out and make the acidity of this brew a little mellow.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a low level of carbonation. I found it to be easy drinking but peculiar at the same time. This isnt the type of sour that I would get thirsty for and crave or want to have on standby to enjoy regularly but having it once was an interesting experience.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

The beer is a hazy, dark orange color with a small, white head and a touch of lacing.

The aroma brings all kinds of interesting craziness including limes / lime juice, alcohol, sourness, liquor...I guess it smells like a whiskey sour. Hmm. Points for creativity and pretty much getting there.

The flavor is much improved over the Short's Key Lime Pie, which I did not enjoy. This concoction does indeed resemble a whiskey sour. As Matt alluded to, the whiskey is muted. This is in line with what one would expect from a whiskey sour. All this said, I wouldn't want a whole lot of this stuff. Additionally, while I find this endeavor interesting and appreciate yet another inventive beer from Short's, if I want a whiskey sour, I will opt for the real thing. Worth a try if you have the chance.

Again, a beer trying to be something that beer is not meant to be. This does come off like a Angostura bittered whiskey but without all the things I love about whiskey, the oak, the heat, the anything. I did not enjoy this beer either.

Beer is reddish and mostly clear in a appearance with a thin haloed head and low carbonation.

The aroma is that of bitters and mild VERY MILD whiskey.

The beer is thin and sweet with a nice late bitterness but this almost earthiness in the midpalate that makes this beer less enjoyable. Where is the whiskey? I think it is lost in the sour, oh wait there it si, the mild sweetness up front includes a little whiskeyness. This is a blend? "a blend of Short’s Key Lime Pie and a Belgian Sour Ale aged in Bourbon barrel" whoa....I didn't get that at all. I liked both of the beers used in the blend better than the blend. Sorry short's another miss for me.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a very hazy moderate orange color with a pretty good white head and a bit of lacing. The nose is pretty strange with a load of whiskey plus a bit of a sour character. Not the right type of sourness, however. There's some lime and a bit of bready malt. The tartness of the lime base and the whiskey don't really match. The same goes for the flavor, where the two just don't really click. Light to medium body and a mild acidity in the finish. I like the concept, but I'm not sure this really hit the right spots.
